I’m glad they’ve ditched the stupid POTG and replaced it with the final kill again

They haven’t.  This seems to be like MW2019.  Most often it is final kill but occasionally you get POTG instead.

Well I've played for just over an hour which means I like it more than mw2019 but that's like saying I'd prefer to piss myself than shit myself.

The maps are still too complex, there's too many places to get shot from. Hopefully there will be some better ones at launch. The guns seem to have too much recoil and muzzle flash but maybe that can be toned down with one of the million pointless attachments in the game to give a feel of content.

The suppressing blur is also downright annoying and need removing fuck that shit.

Not too fussed about the progression it's something you'd get used to.

Oh yeah footsteps not as bad as I thought but with how much of a cluster fuck the bad maps are they are needed, ghost is a crutch perk.

Unsuppressed weapon fire should show up on the mini map.

The whole game is designed for slow campy gamestyle, this is only Cod by name and not the franchise I got into gaming playing.

I'm done with the PS5 beta - no point in playing any more as I've seen all there is to see. Gonna give the PC one a go when it's available and then make a decision. I did seem to notice more campy spots today and in some parts of the maps, enemies are really difficult to spot. I've turned off a lot of the effects like film grain and motion blur but there's just so many particle and post-processing effects in play, it's quite jarring at times especially the bullet spread. Also the interface for the post-match report is incredibly cluttered and you can't see all your rewards or unlocks and also the challenge sidebar overlaps your team line up which is kinda silly because 66% of the screen is taken up by empty space or an area which could easily accommodate the small menu.  Even minimised, it still sits nastily on the screen.  The lack of feedback on how to unlock weapons does not sit well and I hope they ditch this whole tech tree nonsense altogether - having to level up AR's to get an unrelated SMG is a bit daft really.

I did have some good games and entertaining matches but I can't really say if I was having much fun overall. I do like how they've added an FOV slider and many other graphical options but I'm looking forward trying this with a mouse and keyboard and higher framerates.

Haven't read all that big take @techno  but i think from a few games yesterday I can safely say its had a good start. Many of the things that seem to be bothering people are in the detail imo and plays very much MW2019 which is definitely a good thing. Arguably it feels better than that too because Footsteps that everyone gets bothered about isn't a problem that I see.

New map issues are something that usually stem from not playing the map enough to understand where things are. I've not been spawn trapped once yet, which is a very good thing because most people moan about that first. Only really used M4 so far but felt decent to shoot, connectivity wasn't too bad as I only had one live glitch that took up a quarter of the screen until i died.

I'd agree with @Greboth that the perk system feels a little jarring, but i'm willing to see how that goes as its completely new. Anything new will always feel abit weird as most hate change, just depends on if you can select some perks in certain orders, etc as the game goes on but I haven't a clue on how it works so hopefully a little rework wouldn't go a miss.

I think the only thing i'm finding so far is that its difficult to see players from far campy, head glitch spots. It hugely helps being in a team hearing the callouts for it so i can see that getting somewhat annoying....makes me think, I can't remember the player name coming up when ADSing on the target far away. Maybe this would help if so?

First impressions though is that its not like many Beta clusterfucks we see with other games. Start looking at the CoD glass half-full is my advice for a change.... 😄

Ok tried it again and I'm sorry but the footstep audio is terrible and for me needs to go or get toned down, I can hope that some of the other maps are better because the hotel map is just awful. Also for me playing like mw19 doesn't cut it as I hate that game for probably the same reasons I am disliking this dlc. I want to like it but some of the things in that thread I posted would make it a good game. But at this stage it's a definite no from me, I could deal with the maps though as @GazzaGarrattsaid there are just too many head glitches but the footsteps need to go.

You can tell that they are bad because people are duck walking aiming down the sights everywhere.

Will infinity ward change anything 🤣🤣

After playing a couple of hours worth I would say it's reasonably solid. Mostly positive on my behalf.

I think it's better than MW19, Cold War and Vanguards beta's because it plays pretty smoothly, the gun play is decent and the maps are desirable. The colour pallette and vibrancy are miles ahead of MW19 in particular.

The footsteps audio is better than MW19's, but could still be taken down just a smidge or give us Ninja as a perk.

On to the perks which I'm not a fan of, I really don't like what they have done with them. As @Greboth had said previously if the enemy gets an early UAV you can't counter it.

I have been having fun with spamming decoys and inflatable decoy field upgrade to try distract the enemy whilst their UAV is up.

I don't like the interface and menus pregame and in general.

Just feels a bit pointless and confusing, quite like the attachments unlocking and other various small annoyances.

I do think this game has the potential to really shine and be enjoyed. I can't find much really wrong with it.

It is very MW19 ish, but in a good way. The movement feels better than what MW19 was and like I said I don't find any of the maps offensive.

Like @J4MES OX4D said a lot of it's success or failure will rely upon the launch content and post launch content as well.

To be fair, as an idea I quite like the perk system.  It kinda plays like the older CoD's where you earned more perks instead of killstreaks (I want to say it was called Specialist?).  It's the balance of it I'm not so keen on - CoD to me has always been about making the choice of how you want to play and what compromises you want to make on your loadout.  A great example that I keep changing between on MW2019 is Killchain where killstreaks count towards future streaks and EOD because of the grenade/RPG spam (especially in hardcore).  It's the risk of being weaker against the chance of better rewards.  But have an enemy team have a good start with UAV spam and your match is basically over as the enemy team know where you are the entire game with no chance of you "unlocking" ghost during the match.  Thankfully I've only had a few matches totally snowball in to constant deaths due to UAV spam.  However it still puts a massive advantage on the first team that gets a UAV because there's no counter until much later in the match.

It's nothing like specialist, at least with specialist I knew what I was getting and how. More kills and more perks and you could pick the order. With hardline you could get ghost after a kill. After 7 or 8 kills you get all the perks in the game and run about like some super soldier. Awesome imo.

In this game the base perks, bonus perk and ultimate perk. How are these earned? It seems I earn them randomly even without kills or just staying alive longer.

I personally think this "perk" system is the weakest point of the game.

It's not just because I'm traditionally used to the usual system, it's the confusion and inconcientency of whatever this system we are being offered. It's a flawed system imo and deserves to be scrapped!

I saw you earn first one after 4 mins second after 8 but every 10 score reduces each by a second.

That just sounds a bit ridiculous to me. Sure grabbing some kills and capping flags and such will accelerate it a good bit. But I mean if it's TDM and your having a hard time and the enemies are spamming uavs like no tomorrow it's pretty shit.

Any ideas on how long it lasts? If you die is it over or?

Not sure what you mean but I believe nothing changes when you die. It was an exclusive ace video I believe that broke it down

Will definitely need to watch that. I saw it pop up, but not had the time to watch it yet lol.

I mean that's how the perk system works in MW2 too, you choose what perks you get and you know how to get them.  The specifics are different; time vs kills, the number of additional perks you get but generally speaking both are methods for players having base perks and additional perks which they get during a match.

I do agree with you it's a flawed system though I think it could be balanced to work rather than just scrapping it entirely.

So basically in TDM, I can get the second one right at the end of the game even after getting 50 kills😂

Not sure why they have to tweak such a staple of the series just to make it appear they've done something different. Sure it's better than Treyarch giving people 20 perks right off the bat and 60 attachments but I hate all these convoluted and unnecessary game design changes which they cannot justify. That's modern Infinity Ward in a nutshell - do things and in interviews being unable to explain why you've done it and then blame the community.

Yesterday I was seemingly earning a depoloyable piece of cover every 60 seconds too!

Yeah I get what you mean it's definitely the closest thing to specialist. And it has a similar idea, but it's not quite the same to me.

My earlier post I didn't mean to shoot down your valid point and it probably came across a bit snarky which I apologise for Greebs.

To me tho there is the OG Specialist (which I was very fond of) and then what we have now.

Maybe the lighthearted classic meme will describe how I feel about it.

"Mum can we get specialist?"

No! We have specialist at home. (MW2 rubbish perk system we have currently) 😐

Well it seems infinity wards latest post about changes to next weeks beta has gone down like a lead balloon, seems I'm blocked on twitter for some reason but it's on fb too. Most people seem to agree that they don't listen. The mini map part is particularly amusing.

" We do not want to punish people for firing their weapons" 🤣

The amount of flak they’re getting is quite funny.  Though it is hard to claim your listening to your fans when doing the opposite of what most people want.

Typical of IW to refuse to change things the community is unhappy with. They're the only dev team out of the 3 COD teams that do that.

The mini map doesn't actually bother me. But refusing to put DS or Ninja as a perk could bother me depending on what footstep audio is like after the changes.

I just didn't hear it personally and I sound whore to hell on these games. Its definitely quieter than MW2019 and thats never a problem in that game. Sounds like they are changing it though, so you'll be happy 😄

"Footsteps

Footstep audio in week one of the MP Beta was very high, giving players long distance directional information about enemies. For Weekend Two we have some changes coming in. We are reducing the range of footstep audio for the various player movement states (jog, sprint and tactical sprint). This will help soften the cost of moving around the map. The second change is that enemy and friendly footsteps are now distinct. This should help players better understand what's going on as things move around on the battlefield. More details to follow."

We really have to get over the Dead Silence issue though. I mean, back in the day I see why we people are wedded to it as it would be soooo OP to have it. Games evolve and so do Gamers. For the better of any PvP game, you have to a level of sensory awareness and a random person running around a map on silent skates popping everyone in the head as you can't react to where they are coming from. Campers you can't ever get rid of as its a playstyle, but i'd rather take on them alone than deal with campers and then Dead Silence veterans running around silently killing you the entire game. Theres no defence to that at all.

You need to get your hearing tested if you didn't hear it. You can literally track people's movement with footsteps.

When you've been playing MW2019 for many weeks now, I can tell you its not a problem and its definitely quieter for me. I'll let @Macca89  @LordBaguette  @James  @jordie1892  @Diddums @Greboth @IRaMPaGe  share their thoughts if they feel different on it.

And lets face it, isn't that a natural thing? To hear someone is getting closer so you can be aware of your surroundings and counter if possible? Don't hear it any different on Destiny 2 PvP, Overwatch PvP, or Fortinte PvP. You hear footsteps in all of those games - and probably even louder than MW2019 imo.

The thing is I, and others, would like to go back to the OG MW2 style.  Dead silence was a perk but there was a counter perk that made footsteps louder.  So those running dead silence would be as loud as normal, while people not running it would be even louder.

They quieter and louder footsteps were both perk 3.  Which ties in nicely to my earier post.  It allowed you to pick how you wanted to play and how you wanted to be stronger (quiet footsteps) vs how it would make you weaker (hearing other less easily).

As for the footsteps on the beta, I think they’re louder than MW2019.  However my time on the beta was mostly solo whereas almost all my time on MW2019 was in a party.

Sledgehammer did that under Condrey and Schofield with WW2 but they did it in a bait and switch form where they patched the beta to everyone's wishes but then in the final release they reverted all the changes and then told the community to basically screw themselves after we all paid up. Thank god both those dictator pricks got moved on and out the company after that saga and the game improved massively once feedback was acted upon by the remaining employees at the studio but it was just too late in the day to salvage the game. The studio then got pulled apart prior to Vanguard's development - that would have been a great game otherwise but it was instead left to a bunch of people who believes there are 650 genders.

Trouble is with Infinity Ward is half the studio is legends and very talented developers and the rest is soy drinking numpties who design the game for themselves and then get deeply offended when the people they are supposed to be making the game for criticise or question their decisions which they can never seem to justify.

This beta is nothing more than a waste of time really but it may have saved my £60 so I'm grateful. Victoria 3 and God of War Ragnarok is where it's at this year I reckon.
