  1. Had this classic recommended to me again on youtube, thought I'd post it

  2. Just an idea I thought may be worth getting opinions on for the next season of GT races. Alongside the usual drivers championship, could we pair drivers together for a team competition, with both drivers scores combined? Figured this could help achieve a few things: Closer competition within the overall standings (assuming more experienced drivers are paired with newer guys for fair teams) More experienced drivers could focus on helping their teammate, almost as mentors. This could be really useful with race strategy becoming increasingly important. More incentives for a consistent turnout (at least I myself would make sure to find time to practice and race with a teammate depending on me) Thoughts?

  3. I had a similar idea. Shame you can't switch drivers for endurance/relay races

  4. I like the idea of an endurance race (or races) though I'm not sure how it would work in practicality due to, as Crispy pointed out, GT not offering driver swaps that some other racing games offer. As for Jordie's idea of teaming up, I think it's a good idea and one I'd be down to do. I think we should do it like touring cars set up, all the regulars get teamed up but any of the more sporadic attendees can enter as "independents" - it kinda rules them out of the constructors championship but means they can still rank up the drivers to see how they do. As for deciding team, maybe something like based on the final table of this championship so 1st teams with 8th, 2nd with 7th, 3rd with 6th and 4th with 5th. I'm not sure that's the best way to do it but manually picking the team like this should be better balanced than a random names from a hat. Saying about a constructors championship, I did like your original ideas suggestion @phil bottle of doing it like the manufacturers cup where we pick a manufacturer and have to use them for all races. It limits the car choices a little but if we're mostly sticking to Gr3 and Gr4 there's still quite a choice. Though maybe we'd still have to have free choice for Gr2 being there's only a handful of cars in that class. Maybe something to consider for the Autumn championship?

  5. It wasn't fuel that fucked me, or Greebs embrace in the first lap. Tyre choice. Qualification was shit as I didn't manage to do a single lap without crashing off, not always under my own steam😁 But I had a great start and was running in 2nd holding everyone off until the corkscrew moment of bliss which left me and Greebs running in last. I decided at that point it was going to have to be a non stop race if I was going to have any chance if getting a position. Put my power down to 4 and concentrated on putting in steady, if slower, laps. Worked a treat. When everyone ahead pitted I found myself 3rd with 3 laps to go and about 7 seconds ahead of Crispy and James. But it was the super softs that were my undoing. I was still about a second and a half ahead on the last lap but the tyres gave up on the corner before the uphill and it was all over, both @Lurch and @crispymorgan passed me soon after. Crispy fucked himself up breaking late on the very last corner so I managed to salvage my 4th place. @Mikepjbell hated this race, which pleases me no end😅 @slamminbones didn't have much time to practice but we had a good battle at BlueMoon in the 2nd race . Great qualy and drive by James who will be major competition next season. Shout out to @Macca89 and apologies as I know I misjudged your braking at one point and nudged you off, but you're definitely getting better each week👏

  6. Oh God what have I done? I'd assume the manufacturer would be free choice not that everyone has to pick different ones 😅

  7. I should really be saying this is a good idea providing @Mikepjbell doesn't get Peugeot or Audi. I can feel his anxiety kicking in 😄

  8. Yeah let's do this, have a constructors as well as drivers championship! I'm happy to help organise if necessary as it sounds great, we could do our own team cars etc. Might also get more people interested as tactics might come in to play?

  9. We'll have the data by then of how this season has gone and add a basic score to each driver which should enable us to appropriately pair people together?

  13. Yep, two races left for the Spring Season. @Greboth has one hand on the trophy but its not a dead cert, just yet. Great racing last night and my no stopper almost worked with @crispymorgan and @Lurch catching me on the last lap. What @JBR-Kiwi said is so true. Him and Greebs are still the front runners but the pack behind is very competitive now, with James getting a deserved 3rd place in the main race. Crispy has gotten up to speed very quickly and is already threatening my perennial 4th place finishes...

  14. I think everybody has become so much better over the course of the season that it’s now meant that if you make any sort of mistake you will unfortunately be punished for it, especially on a track like Laguna this week. One lap pace from everybody is incredibly quick and you can see it in qualifying where when everybody hooks their laps up, the whole field is covered by only a couple of seconds whereas in the past you might have been talking 10+ seconds from the front to the back. I think where people are struggling a little bit is dealing with the tyre wear and fuel management and the effect that it has on your car and your race and now, with everything being so tight, people are having to think a bit more strategically about it so we are seeing a lot of interesting strategies. I warn you all when @GazzaGarratt finally gets everything to click he will be a monster on the track! 😄

  15. Going really well. Despite the track being awful for last night's race it produced a really great race, except for Lee. Again. The race for third was amazing, but I over cooked it on the last corner and bailed, meaning I lost 4th place as well. All or nothing. I reckon I could have fuel saved for a better position.

    FG Team Updates

It takes a lot of effort and upkeep to ensure everything is ticking over and I'd like to think we've all done our best of this covid period together at FG. As we come out the other end I'd like to think/hope we can continue the good deeds we've done with keeping us all active and having opportunities to get together to have laughs and help each other. I'd like to welcome Chad @Riff Machine as a Moderator to FG. He's also an admin on the FG Discord as he's stepped up to help out where possible around FG after being a part of the furniture for quite a while now - and it's perfect timing to as he's also just past his 1 whole year of sobriety, so I think doubly-thanks appreciation posts are welcome! Well done mate! 🤘 I'd also like to welcome La @RenFengge as an Admin to FG. She's already been around pretty much everywhere and anywhere all over FG if you've seen any bit of here. From organising Destiny raids, welcoming new people in their own PPRs, posting invaluable stuff, and an all round decent person. This will give me certainly a huge help, like she already has been doing - La is busy behind the scenes helping me fix our merch supplier issues, and trying to help secure places/activities for more physical meet ups too. Its been a real joy to have you here, La (and you too, Carl! 🤣) Both Chad and La are also over the Atlantic if you hadn't worked that out already so hopefully this will also help whilst the European lot are asleep. Don't ever think we haven't stopped reaching out to our old family and friends to bring them back into the fold and get their lazy ass thumbs up and running again - and new FGers too 😄 Exciting times ahead, with some updates and lots of fun in store for the rest of the whole year but for now I hope you all can get behind my words as I'm sure you'd want to wish them yourselves a warm welcome and congrats to their changes. Don't forget, we're not FG without Chad, La and all of you lovely people. GGFG ❤️

  17. Let me tell you a story. In World Of Warcraft classic, you need world buffs to be competitive and push progression. What's a world buff you ask? Well, it's a buff that's obtained out in the world. There are a few of them and they generally last one to two hours, and if you die, you lose them all. These buffs are immensely powerful, to the point that without them, you're not progressing until your whole raid's gear is very high level. Acquiring them is a monumental pain in the ass as you need to be in certain places at certain times, and often cost quite a bit of gold. It can take hours, or even a full day to get them all, depending on how dedicated you are. Anyway. So I'm in AQ40 (a 40 man raid) and we're facing the final boss. It's progression night. This is literally the only guy left in the whole raid and although I'm filling in a spot for someone who couldn't make it, these guys spent weeks getting to this point. Everyone's buffed. People have spent hundreds of gold, and countless hours getting their buffs and shit ready for this fight. Now the boss is a big eyeball in a square room. At the front of the room, the wall has a gap in it, this is where you enter to start the fight. Now as soon as the boss sees you, he fires off a laser beam which will kill almost anything one-shot. Even the toughest tanks struggle. It then, within a matter of seconds, wipes out the rest of the raid. So we're all standing to the side of the gap so the boss can't see us (LOS as we call it, or Line of Sight), discussing tactics and whatnot. I bump my keyboard. My character moves 2ft to the right. ZAP. Entire raid killed. All world buffs gone, people have repair bills, and we have to spend the next 45 mins getting our shit together. The boss does not die that night. I took Deadums to a whole new level I did. And yes, this is a true story.

  18. I'm all for having this as a manufacturers championship, think it's a fantastic idea. In terms of organising teams, I think using the table as a base is a better method than a lottery, as two faster drivers together and two slower drivers together defeats the purpose a little. I know I myself will commit to the full season, if there's any others who have missed a significant number we could use the average race results from where they (I) have participated to get a good idea of ability levels. I'm happy to do the math here and propose teams, unless one of the more experienced guys with a bit more knowledge on this than me ( @Mikepjbell ?) is happy to do so?

  21. Whoever pairs with me, note that lube is no longer required, my back end has been smashed so often I'm fitting a revolving door. But yeah sounds interesting. Spring Season has 2 races to go, with an end of season finale. Then first week of June, Summer Season starts. So, could start it then. Maybe do the pairing by lottery or stats, whatever you prefer. The only drawback for me is that so far I've not been too sweaty and this would make me very sweaty. Don't mind fucking myself over but I'd be mortified to do it to someone else 😅 Love the @crispymorgan idea of an endurance race. If we want I can make one of the Summer Season races a 4 lap endurance round Nurburgring with each driver doing 2 laps each to test it out?

  22. Tom @LordBaguette is screwed then, as his teammate will be hammering him if he CBA's again! Overall I think its a great idea, definitely gives extra vibes on how to approach races alongside helping more people learn the game more. We've done a great job (well, not me, others!) in terms of helping many of us lesser experienced folk get better and understand more about the finer details. This seems a great way to keep people engaged and something else to aim at. Btw, if you wanted utilise some of the software we have on here atm, a subtle different way you could do it is, is each week one team are up against another team and the collectively points each teammate gets is their overall score. I'd love to in one sense because everything looks cool in those tables! but I do think you'd probably want some decent attendance. Either way would love to make it more than just an individual race so great shout @jordie1892 !

    Happy Birthdays!

Thanks! I haven't decided if I'm going to make myself a cake... or buy a fancy cake... One of my friends said to do both lol. @TurboR56Mini will probably remind me that I will typically be disappointed in bakery cakes.. since most of them are trash. Yum.... cake. Aw. Thanks!

  24. I’m quite proud of my recovery as I didn’t think I’d get back to second but my massive fuck up to need a recovery rules me out of DOTW. Crispy had a great race and is a close second but I think DOTW has to be James who had a good race while everyone else was making mistakes and kept pushing to bag a podium right at the end.

  26. I'm still amazed but equally not surprised we can do something like this and have a real good bunch that not only tries to compete against each other but also is trying to help each other improve. I even felt at one point @Macca89 who has picked it up relatively shortly was gonna get a great race result if it wasn't for the strategy. @JBR-Kiwi is bang on. Strategy is absolutely coming into play, which I love seeing unfold. At one stage last nights first race I don't think anyone knew what was going to happen - probably the only guarantee was my spinning out 🤣 - but its things like that which keeps every week interesting. Fair play to Greebs taking the hit when he made a large error on Phil. Stuff like that happens and he did amazingly well to get back through the pack to still push Kiwi at the end. Everyone had a great race and it makes me continually wish I had more time to practice as its really enjoyable practicing and learning with everyone. Wish we could find more time for races again! P.S. And one day that grid is definitely going to be full! Good turn out again.

    Humankind

I wrapped up the Humankind OpevDev run on Saturday. There are still things in the game that I do not fully understand... and things I wonder where they are for quality of like (e.g., where's the mini-map?). I'm sure that they are probably in the game and just not in the OpenDev. In this last run, I figured out trading. In Civ, you create trade routes via traders. In Humankind, you do it in your Relations panel. There aren't trade routes, per se.. but you can still pillage a route if you stumble upon it.. I think that's what it said. You can also "buy" the commodity and sell it for a higher price. Oh, and the other major difference I want to highlight is the "Wonder" building.. you know how when you play Civ, and you race to build the Wonder before another Civilization finishes? Yeah.. that's not here in Humankind. But, if there's a perk from a Wonder that you do want, you better hope you generated enough culture/influence to "call dibs" on the wonder. You can only "call dibs"/build 1 wonder at a time... and you can devote as many cities as you want towards building it faster. I'll probably load up Civ 6 soon... sort of a nice mental comparison/drop down to an easier game just for ha-has... but Humankind has got some fantastic elements in it. I can't wait. Some screenshots:

  33. By the time they get their servers running properly and sort out their shit it will be 18 months anyways. Might be a good strategy to have a slowly incrementing player base to be able to handle the problems. I played BF since bad company. The game design was always exceptional, the execution was always abysmal at launch. I don't expect that to change

    F1 2021

Portimao was an ok race, but baring a few moments of excitement, I could have easily fallen asleep to the race. The width of the track on the straight all the way down to turn 1 is simply a bit ludicrous and with the DRS it made it almost impossible to defend from someone as you had the width of six M25s worth of space on either side so all anyone needed to do was just dummy one way and then switch back. Bottas once again was the bridesmaid never the bride. Started off so well but as soon as he got into a period of managing tyres especially on the hards he just didnt have the pace. Getting done by Hamilton and Verstappen rattled him and I think he already knows his chances for this season are done. Fastest lap is a small consolation for a track where he has always been quick over one lap. I think the low rake design of the Mercedes definitely helped at this track especially with the wind that was massively affecting the high rake cars like the Red Bulls and the Ferraris. Whilst all of the drivers were complaining about the track over the weekend, with its lack of grip and cold track surface temps, you could see that Red Bulls in particular, suffered badly with aero balance especially over the last couple of corners which hampered Verstappen getting close enough for a pass down the straight even with DRS. The Mercedes engine was definitely the one to have at this track, with Mclaren all weekend, and the Williams of Russell in quali, showing some ridiculous pace down the straight. The thing to remember with this season is for a lot of teams (excl Merc and RB at this point of the season), they are putting little to no resources (Haas...) into this season as the regulations are going to change for next year and it would be prudent to concentrate a lot of your efforts on the next phase of the regulations. Start too late and you will pretty much write off the next 2-3 years as you will be playing constant catch up. Thanks to the token development system, Ferrari couldnt actually do to much this year (new engine and a small bit of suspension work) and knew they would struggle, but they have made a massive step up from their troubles last year. The financial cap that has come in has also meant they have had to diversify their staff and operations rather then lay them off (big no no in Italien law i think), so expect them to do a massive push into GT racing with the new hypercars, but they wont be going away from F1 anytime 😉
