    Christmas gaming

I finish work this Friday as I've booked the rest of the month off, so have plenty of time for gaming. I might do some streaming on Twitch next week and I've a few games lined up. I'm feeling the draw of Rimworld again and I want to spend some time on either Mount & Blade or Crusader Kings. Plus I want to check out the updates to Valheim as I've not played it in ages.

    Christmas gaming

Christmas tends to give us all a bit of free time (with the exceptions of running round to visit family). So do you have a game in mind to play over the christmas spell, do you tend to pick christmasy games or is it just whatever's next on your to play list? I have the remastered Final Fantasy Crisis Core turning up soon so imagine that will be my go to game over the christmas break. I should have the platinum trophy for Spiderman this week as well so should have space for another game to play until it turns up so depending on what it is, imagine it might extend into the christmas break. So what games are you guy's going to be playing? What have you set your sights on?

Unreal. How in the world did you swindle that amazing amount of holiday?! Fair bloody play mate. Christmas list wise, i'll be taking a look at whats available for Santa/Wife to bring if i've been good. FIFA 23 should be on the list as its pointless getting it beforehand. I just want more time to play in general so i can get back into Destiny for the next season, more camo challenges on MW2 and trying to find some Fridays and other days to make a few group up nights so we can all get together for some laughs ahead of Christmas. That'd be ace as its Fridays have been off the menu for a while since we had the meet up and also now World Cup/Xmas duties to sort. I also would love to find a little time to even start a solo campaign, maybe MW2's one. I've got so many to try though it could literally be any of the top ones across the last few years. FG Fridays with Fall Guys, Among Us, Wreckfest, GTA and maybe MW2 private games sound like a good time to me at the very least.

If I buy Dwarf Fortress on Steam, I'll probably be playing a lot of that. Still got the Command and Conquer Collection to work through plus I still have to grab God of War Ragnarok at some stage. American Truck Simulator is also my go-to game for relaxing so I imagine I will be doing a lot of that too especially with the recent Texas expansion. Other than that, there's really not much knocking about plus nothing in the Steam sales seem to entice.

No special plans so it will be mw2 and destiny filling the gaps. I am planning at some point to get sniper elite 5 on the pc probably, I do need to dust it and remove the cobwebs 🤣

  9. Nice little topic to start @Luseth 🙂 I am hoping to complete Guardians of the Galaxy as i'm halfway through that at the moment. Same as @GazzaGarratt, probably wont be getting Fifa 23 until just after Christmas. I really want to get GoW Ragnorok and Callisto Protocol too, but they will probably be post Christmas purchases, so may pick up a copy of Witcher 3 since i never completed it and the ps5 upgrade is available on the 14th December. Got Cyberpunk to dive into as well so may get a start on that over Christmas 🙂

    Gotham Knights

It's one of those games I would have liked to have picked up, more of the batman games but with co-op should have been something really good. I imagine I will try it at some point but the reviews have certainly put it on a wait until it's below £20 game now which is such a shame.

  18. Don't take anything away from Senegal though, the first 30 minutes was as much because of their tactics / game management as well. They set up to defend and then nick a goal, they almost managed that as well. We only went on to a comfortable victory because we got the first goal and they had to attack then and it opened up spaces for us to counter attack. Had Senegal's first goal gone in and then Senegal sat back and defended the rest of the game I am not so sure we would have gone through. That said thrilled with the result, France will be a tough game next but I feel there will be goals at both ends of the pitch.

  20. I'd consider going for a SteamDeck, as building a PC has become pretty expensive. It really depends on the type of games you'll expect it to be able to run though to be able to recommend anything.

I've given this another try lately, and it seems to be much better then launch. You can FINALLY silence that damn narrator from speaking every single bit of dialogue in the game. The PS5 version just dropped recently and holy hell, does this look amazing on next-gen. I'm really digging this now. I won't compare it to a No Mans Sky resurgence, but it's enjoyable at least IMO.

  22. Looking a lot better these days but I dunno if it's too late in the day. At least it'll give some confidence for the next title especially with all the staff associated with the OG 2042 literally all gone. The team that's taken over have done a pretty good job and there's been an upturn in players of late thanks to free weekends on Steam, discounts and people returning. Still needs a good 12 months to complete the overhaul I'd say and the guns really lack punch compared to COD now, but they may be able to salvage something and go out with some pride.

  26. @Greboth Looks like I ended up with specs that were really similar to what you were suggesting, which is quite encouraging given I just took the sales guys word for it and bought his recommendation. I normally don't do that at all lol. Also cool to hear the graphics card is that much more of an improvement over the 480 I didn't research this stuff at all but I'd imagine he's going to see a huge improvement. Personally I think GTA V and Witcher 3 look incredible on what I have now so I'm excited to see what 4x improvement looks like. Couple of other questions though. I can always take out the 6650XT from that system to replace the 480, and buy a much nicer card if he wants it. Are there considerations with how the GPU "fits" with the CPU? The 12400F that this new setup comes with isn't very expensive, so will I not get much bang for the buck with an expensive GPU and limited CPU? I don't know if you're supposed to keep CPU and GPU at similar price/performance levels or if it doesn't matter at all.

  27. I went to Micro Center yesterday and impulse bought this guy. I did some more reading and ultimately decided something that was pre-built was the way to go. It's been 10 years since I built the other one and I just went with convenience this time around. I'm already enjoying not feeling the need to spend hours upon hours researching every stupid little thing, which is basically what I do any time I buy anything. If my son really gets into gaming/PC stuff he can always build his own later on, so I figured this would be a solid intermediate step that would be a good replacement for our house PC if it bites the dust. Or a good hand me down to son #2 and then son #3. The guy at the store was pretty helpful with narrowing down the stuff I needed vs the stuff that doesn't really matter. It's a smaller frame and not much room to add anything else but I don't see myself doing that anyway. I priced out the parts individually this morning and overall it seems like a good deal especially with OS included and a 1 year warranty. Will hopefully seem like a major upgrade in graphics/performance for my son. I don't expect it to blow anyone away but given what he currently plays on is over 10 years old I think he should see a noticeable improvement. I'm starting to look at monitors now. 30. 3-0 England! Solid display overall despite a shaky first 30 minutes. First goal was a clinical move and sweeping finish and the second was a superb breakaway at a crucial time. Third one wrapped it up and we saw out the game comfortably. Also nice to see us being more direct because all that backwards passing in the opening quarter put us into real trouble more than once. Bellingham was immense again and a fine display from Henderson who seems to have been around longer than Madonna! France a week Saturday it is!

Thats awesome! I didn't know that I found that I was just mounting at every single corner when trying to get those challenges, I found mounting on crates in strategic areas on domination was quite useful. You can also mount on the deployable cover.

  34. Intel or AMD for a CPU is a little from column A and a little column B. On the top end, AMD releae a new chip and tale the lead, then Intel release a new chip and take the lead then rinse and repeat. More mid-range it gets a bit murkier as I’m not sure on the price to performance. I’m also not certain of prices in USD but for a similar budget here you could get something like a Ryzen 5600x or Intel 12400 with appropriate motherboard. I’d recommend 16Gb RAM with as fast as you can get, probably 3200MHz at minimum. I’d also recommend getting an M2 SSD as they’re super fast and you could re-use your existing drives as additional storage. PSU it depends what you end up speccing and future proofing you want to do. Once you have a rough idea of spec there’s plenty of PSU calculators online. I’d guess you’ll only probably need 500-600W at most. Though depending on how long you expect the PC to go for and if it will see futude GPU upgrades, it’s cheaper to spec higher watt one now than have to change in the future. Corsair, Seasonic and SuperFlower are generally the top brands but it does depend on specific models. Case, I’m sure you could re-use the existing one as not much really changes in cases design except for the addition of tempered glass and generally a reduction in hdd bays. So up to you on if you want to switch cases. GPU, I’d imagine you could get a RTX3060. Dependong on USD pricing and if you don’t want a case, you might be able to go for a 3070. Though even a 3060 is 4x or 5x faster than a 480 so would be a massive improvement. If you go on PC part picker you can spec a PC and share a link for us to look at. For some reason, on my phone, it defaults to UK so can’t put a US build together.

  35. yah, solo is fine as long as you don't encounter another team. It might be easier than having idiots as team mates. After 25 minutes the gas starts closing in which can be crazy as you lose your extraction point. I think the best solo strategy is to head towards an open area extraction right away and then do stuff I think I managed about 15 extractions. I usually bring in the SPR and pickup a RPK which is everywhere
    1 point
  36. I have been doing it solo, which I quite tough, and I've only managed to extract a few times. Mostly go for the strongholds. I wish there was longer than 25 minutes as that seems to a bit short, particularly when the the exfils are on the other side of the map.

  37. Pretty funny 😁

  38. What are you doing in there? The challenges. strongholds. Something else? I kind of like it. It's a simpler Warzone in many ways. You got a squad? Solo? Randoms? I've gotten some really good randoms and some really bad ones. I kills me when they just bail after we spawn in and leave me short teams mates. Sometimes being solo is better because you can mitigate you danger.

  42. The good - I like the game play and the lack of bullshit mechanics. No wall jumping, boosting, stupid sliding or other horse shit mechanics - I actually like Skill base. People who do not are people who are use to pounding on newbs or people who get to play 2-3 hours weeks and now have to compete at their skill level. Get better as someone would say - Choosing scorestreaks vs killstreaks. Great based on game mode or playstyle. If you play DOM you would be nuts to play kill. If you play TDM you would be nuts to play score. I like the flexibility - The guns fun. They are competitive enough to use multiple guns. - The daily challenges. Not critical as it is pretty easy to get to level 55 but nice touch - Connection. Can't complain on the XBOX. All COD on my PS3/PS4 were aweful. Don't know if it is due to this COD or swiching to XBOX but it doesn't even come close to the garbage I use to have to put up with Bad (I would say more neutral) - Perks. I think I have been running the default perk system the entire game. Hunter I beleive. The one with tracker. Really don't need anything else. Especially if you know that a laucher will shoot down UAVs. - The maps. I would say most of them are Meh. - Lack of challenges. Other than camos, they are rather non-existent. Since I am already level 55 however, I don't really need them - the menu system. It's bad, but not that bad enough for me to call ugly. - operators. Really, who cares. If you are going have those at least have some variety. The skins are virtually all the same. I will love to have Darth Maul or the Energize bunny. No 5 variation of Ghost with the same fucking mask - Lack of frontline. It's a COD mobile mode. I wish they had it for regular COD. I like it quite a lot - Cheat management. I really wish PCs were not allowed to cross play due to the number of cheaters. Some of the kill cams I have looked at make it pretty obvious. In some case I cannot even see myself in the Kill cam but they still manage a kill. Console players shouldn't have to put up with that Ugly - Spec Ops. Sucks donkey balls. I liked he 2019 one. I love zombies. That shit is just lame and a waste of time. I have to assume others feel the same because it takes about 10 minutes to get a match - load times. I don't know about you guys but by the time my XBOX loads the game has already started. Which is ok since I never lose a game because it is already in progress but it is dam anoying to jump into DOM were all the flags are already capped - Invasion/ground war. Is that shit playable for you guys? It is so laggy and shaky that I don't bother. Besides if I wanted to play battlefield modes I would have gotten battle field - progression system. I am level 55. Now what? Battle pass seems like it will be a worthless grind. They could take a few lessons from COD mobile

  43. I would say MW2, MWII and MW3 Blops where nicely designed games but always ran like shit for me. The connections were always awful for some reason. MW2 the first I played and my son was the one that wanted me to get it. I think he was 13 at the time. I remember telling him, what ever you do don't let your mom see that no russian mission or you'll never get to play a video game again Marathon, Lightweight, Commando with a magnum and tac Knife. Pure gold My best streak ever was doing that on Quarry with the predator, harrier , pavelow

  44. MW3 Blops2 W@W MW2 Cod4 At its core MW2 was a great game. Probably the best. Them never doing anything to OMA/danger close really hurt that game. If it wasn’t for that it would be #1. MW3 was when I started playing with people for here, well the old here but you get it. So that was my favorite mostly because of that

I just picked this one up Thursday, and I've been enjoying it so far. It's giving me a Metroid vibe for sure. The level up system is somewhat similar to Dark Souls and when you die, you lose your currency at the spot of death. I'll dig more into this one over the weekend.
