Gaming reveals & events
Riff Machine and 5 others reacted to Luseth for a topic
So the likes of gamescom and E3 are dying out in favour of companies producing their own videos. Microsoft & Bethesda yesterday, Playstation and Nintendo do their State of play type of reveals while even PC gamer do their own reveal. Do any of you guy's watch them? I find them quite exciting seeing what's coming up (though there can often be some cringey moments in some of them) and I do dislike reveals being 3 or 4 years in advance just saying they are working on it without showing anything.6 points -

E3 has definitely taken a hit with the breakaway events particularly after Covid. Doesn't surprise me that companies want to do their own show - they are highly established to get media interest, don't have to share their show with anyone, can do as they wish plus they aren't under any time limitations. I still think these shows will exist for tradition but they will be sandwiched it between the standalone events which will become the showpiece for the media. I tend to only watch the highlights or the standout trailers for these though as I don't have much time or patience to be sitting through all these presentations especially if its for games or devs I am not interested in.5 points -

I don't tend to watch them mainly most games that get revealed are different when they get released but I do watch them when there's a big game coming out.4 points -

How the hell did I miss this thread?!!! I still have my copy too! What a game that was and this MUST have co-op online for those games in this collection. I can seriously see loads of us grouping up to play 4 player co-op on this! Reminds me of the time too we all went to the Arcade Club in Bury some years ago and we all button bashed the hell out of the arcade real life version that had unlimited play 🤣 Never really played many of the others. Have other people played them? What the hell?!! This is class!! Gonna have to find one that maybe people make these days with that on 😍3 points -
Overwatch 2 Free to Play

Here's the date reveal trailer for anyone that's interested. Not long to wait then and I think its great news thats in October this year and not next year. I agree @J4MES OX4D , I think they would struggle to charge anything more than 20-25 but I do worry now for the PvE side of this as I would really hope there's enough content in the game to keep the playerbase active. It'll be a bit weird for sure moving from 6 to 5 player teams. One less place to fill for an FGer 😞 Anyways, I'm still hopeful for this and you still get some nice hype feelings from watching the trailer above. A few new characters will help the mix, just need to lock a few characters down in each type of role to feel that you can help the team. Btw, here's the YouTube link below for the reveal event on Thursday. You can set a notification to watch it when this link goes live.3 points -

Oh man, I used to watch and get excited way before E3 was coming out. We used to talk on here about what to expect and what people were excited about, etc. Clearly, 2 huge things have happened and probably why I don't keep the same level of hype or interest in them currently: Covid - clearly made everyone rethink how they could do game releases. Now that people rely on social media more than ever, its allowed people to create their own game release shows at far less of a cost to go and show off at the old Expo events. The demand on current games. We want games far quicker than the usual 6-7 years to develop a AAA game, but unfortunately the only games that take less, are Indie, current games that are live and receive updates/patches, and game sequels/prequels from existing code so aren't true AAA games. The general average gamer's needs have changed so now they don't wanna wait too long and are also happy to get smaller games as long as they are good value for money. Their attention spans just fade so quickly these days that even live service games struggle to cope because people gorge content like watching a TikTok and swipe off their game faster than you can say anything positive towards it. On a more positive note, now Covid restrictions are being lifted gradually through the world, lets hope that we can have an E3 at some point again, as all things in life are cyclical anyway 🙂3 points -

I try and always watch the Playstation State of Play, however they can be very hit and miss. I've watched a few and been absolutely blown away by the reveals or gameplay footage, then other times I can come away thinking it was a waste of 30-60 mimutes. I have to agree. I used to love watching E3 every year and getting the schedules for each of the showcases, and it could have a great atmosphere with the audience there reacting to what they saw, but like you say it makes more sense for each company to create their own content to showcase what is coming when they want to rather than scheduling it to once a year. I do miss thebold conversations that happened every year of "who won e3 this year" though lol3 points -

Sensible decision. They were never going to get away charging full price for this - what is essentially a continuation of the live service that they've neglected for the last 3 years. This WEEK?!!?! Man, i'm so off seeing this completely. I'm going to check stores to see if i can get it sent to me. Important question - is it crossplay/crossgen? I'm thinking about picking up the PS4 version because i'd be worried you can't play with people on a PS5. Can't find much online at all about it.2 points -

I've tried to get back into Clash of Clans which has had a huge update to support teams of people towards a large goal. If you have the time its worth it but I think I struggle to keep opening it and forget when stuff has to take days to build. Outside of that....Among Us? 😄 I know @NCA-Paendrag Brede used to play a huge RPG game that has quite a lot of people on it. Might be in his PPR.2 points -

I thought it looked quite good, I am playing Fallout 76 on the xbox with my brothers at the moment and though it's janky as hell it's quite a fun game. This looks the same but set in space and provided they can keep the bugs to a minimum (though it is Bethesda) it could turn out quite good fun. It looks quite pretty and I love the concept being a Mass effect fan. Fingers crossed it will turn out good, I noted that there still wasn't a launch date though so technically it could be next christmas (2023) yet.2 points -

So strange. Sometimes there are things that are so obvious that if you can release at a certain time, the social media side of life would lap it up. I suppose with a game release like this, regaredless of when it gets confirmed, people will positively react to it by the bucket loads.1 point -

That is an interesting thing, I suppose Netflix have all the rights to it being their show. Is a bit ass if you don't have Netflix or have cancelled it. Many people have cancelled because of all the things taken off for censorship, the fact the price goes up and all the woke shit they keep adding to it.1 point -

Xbox Game Pass on Samsung 2022 Smart TVs

Weird. If you're playing in front of a TV then you may as well have a console. Can't see too many people buying Xbox Game Pass, a controller but not getting the console. Not a fan of Cloud gaming either and the Stadia proved it was a fragile and needless concept with way too many drawbacks. Probably an attempted move to stifle Sony TV sales on top. Really can't see this taking off or having any key benefits.1 point -

Not bad quite a varied mix of indy, punk rock, older and newer things of different genres. Didn't realise Tasha Sultan had official tracks I remember watching some of her early stuff on YT. A random mix of Chili peppers from at least 3 albums. Overall a pretty decent mix of tunes Tom my man. 👍1 point -

Gotham Knights
Riff Machine reacted to JungleHeart for a topic
It's my first time finding out that the people behind this game aren't the same ones as the Arkham series of games — I think I now know why you guys are apprehensive. I am now too hehe. But yeah, I'm optimistic too. Arkham Knight was pretty awesome but I hated that you needed to complete the game on hard to see the actual ending. Requiring the player to play the game again for the full story is bad enough for me, but having them play hard mode to see what an ending that's supposedly already served upfront is, I think, bad design. Don't get me wrong, if you enjoyed it, that's awesome — no issues with that of course! Just that after that it felt like there's a big gaping hole for good DC games they need to fill up so they bring back the goodness of Arkham Asylum and City. Like all of you guys, I'm hoping it's this one. I have already pre-ordered it so there's no backing out. 🤣1 point -

Not sure what you think but part of my theory in their strategy maybe is that with Single Player games they're creating, I feel like the difficulty levels are there to just extend the life of the game. So many people gorge games these days, therefore the harder the game is the longer the game stays out there. Just a random thought I had. I'm not sure its in my ability or skill level this type of game but I do want to see more of it. If you grab a decent part of game action @Riff Machine , see if you can upload it or maybe let us know who has a decent gameplay reel worth watching.1 point -

Honestly, that same engine goes all the way back to Morrowind. I'ts just been built ontop of for literally decades but it still has very similar jankiness the whole way through. And to be quite honest, I wouldn't entirely mind, as it's very good for mods.1 point -

I'm awaiting this with bated breath. I've been wanting a 'casual' space RPG for ages now. No Man's Sky had that inital wonder of exploration that I'm craving, but the effect very quickly wears off due to its shallowness by virtue of being a proc-gen game. If you see one ruin, you've seen them all. So for a game to (hopefully) have hand-crafted planets/locations etc but be somewhat casual along the lines of The Elder Scrolls, I'd be very happy.1 point -
