  1. Days Gone was a slow starter but just got better and better as the game progressed. I'll likely pick up the PC version at some point if I see it cheap.

  2. I'd also have to say Watch Dogs 2. The game was somewhat tainted by the sheer disappointment of the original plus the general dislike of Ubisoft especially at the time. It's actually an incredibly fun game that looks amazing, has lots of highly entertaining missions plus the AI is incredibly dynamic and alive. It's an absolute travesty that they didn't follow this standard up with Legion and have probably killed of the series altogether. As said above, Days Gone is another I forgot about. Had a miserable reception at launch on PS4 due to various woes and when it was fixed, many users had already moved on. I took a punt when it arrived on PC and thought it was a remarkable game and a very rare instance where I never got tired of the open world and was left wanting after I finished it. The hordes are very impressive from a technical standpoint and the game is mechanically on-par with TLOU. Absolutely scandalous Sony cancelled the sequel.

  3. It really is a fantastic game. BTTF is my favorite movies series of all time. Seen the movies hundreds of times by now. I have annual passes to Universal Studios Florida and every time I see the Simpsons ride I want to punch a wall (It replaced the BTTF ride). The Deloreon and the train from 3 are still there for pics. This game did the series justice all the way around. Loved playing through it. According to the original writers, this is as close to a BTTF 4 as there will ever be. Thank God for that.

This one just dropped on Game Pass, created by the game designer of Limbo and Inside, It's a pretty good puzzle platformer that has a visual style reminiscent of Death's Door. It's available on everything, but free on GP. I'm rolling through it now, and it's a good time so far.

    Starfield

I progressed through the main quest just before the final mission, so I decided to try and find the rest of the temples and do some side quests. The halfway point kind of got me interested in the main story, and my buddy Adrian's spoilers from the podcast the other week also helped. I'll probably finish it up over the weekend. Good, but not great.

  7. Just finished the DLC after just shy of 6 hours and for Β£8 it's a remarkable return. Although there are a few familiar areas, there is plenty of entertaining combat encounters and few new mechanics. The story is a really nice alternative perspective that fills in holes and sits side by side with Leon's progress. You see him a few times and can always work out where the narrative is between both characters. Incredible value for money especially when you have cocks like Activision charging Β£24.99 for some stupid coloured gun and ghastly skin.

    Party Animals

Looks like fun, nice find Chad @Riff Machine ! I was only a little worried when it looked like 4 players max, but it seems its 8 max in a lobby which is a great size for party games. Unfortunately Xbox and PC just at the moment. They want to bring it to PlayStation but I imagine some hoops to go through with Xbox on their exclusivity.

  9. I'm pretty sure it's the same guy who around a decade ago, once proposed that players PAY to reload their weapon in Battlefield i.e buy ammo on the go at the press of a button when in a match. One of the greediest and disgusting ideas imaginable. Surprised Activision didn't hire him but I guess he was too scummy even for them.

  10. Damage is done now though. I saw Terraria plough 100k donations into new developer engines as an act to get behind other smaller engines. Trust is so vital these days and can really grab more sales than these big corporate companies realise.

    Starfield

This game's blowing hot and cold for me, it does not feel very story driven, it feels more like a big open world esque game with lots of little stories, however because of my low level it feels somewhat disjointed because I can't complete a storyline or a faction line all in one go. The gameplay is fine and I am enjoying exploring the worlds etc. I have not even touched the outposts yet. I think because I am after something a bit more story driven my interest is waning a little bit in this at the moment, I jump on for an hour here and there but I am not sinking myself into it like I do with some RPG's.

    Starfield

9 hours into the game now. Negatives first: The star map could be a lot better, I'm glad it can mostly be circumvented. Local maps are coming I believe... but it's very poor they launched without them. Same with FOV slider and lack of Nvidia support. But on the whole: I've found some weapons I really like and the gunplay and combat has gone from passable to very enjoyable. Ship combat is fine for me, it helps that one of my traits started me off with that particular skill. I like the way you can gather side missions simply by being within the vicinity of two NPCs talking. I read somewhere that it's recommended to do the main quest up until a particular mission and then branch off, so that is the plan πŸ™‚

    Dead Matter

So, Dead Matter, another attempt at beating or improving on DayZ has now entered a closed alpha. I took a punt on it while it was in its funding stage, so I have access to it but can't talk about it due to NDA. There was a bit of an issue with the keys and the game is already been delayed for various reasons so I note that there's a few haters of it already, though I think some people exist just to have angry reactions.

In this case I thought Tencent getting involved would be a good thing. Started off on kickstarter and promised the earth long before the Chinese got involved

I don't really know much about the game but the whole situation smells like Tencent played a part. Probably woefully wrong but everything they seem to touch in this genre goes tits up.

It's actually looking worse than when I played it 3 years ago. The team making it seems to have changed about a dozen times and it blows my mind that they actually released it and are charging money for it.

    Dead Matter

Costs Β£30 and currently sitting at a 14% positive score! I think we're at the stage where all the decent and established survival games have already been released. I'm certainly not following or risking any money on new ventures especially when the genre has been saturated for a very long time and innovations are rather sparse. Definitely one of the riskiest games to produce and get right, and extremely costly too.

3 years later, they've finally lifted the NDA on this 'DayZ killer' πŸ˜…πŸ™ˆ. The following vid covers some of my thoughts on the game.

  20. The Hunt Showdown has abit of a feeling like an underground hardcore following but never seems to make it into a larger group of people I find. The game is absolutely top draw, the spin on the gamemode Battle Royale others did, they completely made it their own which makes every game feel like a new experience. Its a little more intense co-ordination needed and that can put some people off but its not hard to get into at all and such a great visual game, set in times where different encounters can happen with PVP and PVE all the time on the map. Plus, its cheap as chips now!!

    Dead Matter

The worst thing DayZ ever did was go into early access so quickly, it probably set them back years to do it that way, but people were baying for it. It's a shame as it took away people from the mod and when the early access game turned out to be so basic it put a lot of people off DayZ full stop. Dead Matter won't be open for true early access until next year. I'm in the NDA discord channel and the devs are there all the time, which is nice.

Its the world we live in now, where everyone wants things yesterday so the only way for devs to meet the balance is to say i'll release it early withthe huge caveat that its an 'alpha'. Having said that, they shouldn't be free of criticism, you can't spend your entire lifecycle in alpha. I enjoyed that video and now i have a keen interest in DayZ, it made want this even more because of how sleek it looked. Loved the basebuilding ideas shows and also that perk tree elements at the end would definitely make this stand out like Survival RPG. It'll be interesting to see when they will open it up to more people. Any news on that Phil?

Me. That's me. I exist for angry reactions. As much as I love your enthusiasm philly, I am far too cynical to spend money on any alphas or early access anymore. DayZ has been in early access for as long as it's existed, so has Star Citizen and 7D2D. It's become a thing now, where people just keep tinkering on games for as long as they exist and it irritates me. We're effectively funding their hobby. Some games are awesome but when I pay for something, I expect a finished product. Which if you think about it is fucking retarded, as I also despise all the big-name publishers. I'm my own worst enemy, honestly.
