  1. Game has released, Early Access i.e. it's unfinished....and it's 30 odd quid lol Here's my favourite from the Steam reviews πŸ€ͺ This will probably be a good game in about 18 months. As it stands it's totally bare bones - no campaign, no friendly AI, no non-hostiles in the zone, no weapon selection, no player customisation, plus clunky movement, bizarre controls and a UI from 2007. On top of that, the price is bananas.

  4. I see that point and rightly thats definitely one way it could end up, but I'd air on the side of being positive for this one for a change. Ubisoft don't make all bad stuff, and its easy to just expect that all games need to be open world sandboxes but as we know alot can come out and be a mess and have no depth at all. I think the way it is a 2D scroller but with 3D characteristics in many places gives it a different feel. I feel like its the same as if Final Fantasy went and brought a new game out going back to the ATB system they used at the start of the franchise. It would be loved by many I would expect. Plus, at least it won't be full price for a side scroller either.

  5. I was expecting it to cost about Β£17.99 early access! Looks way too barebones to be buying into it now.

    Phantom Liberty

I haven't played Cyberpunk 2077 since its release month although I have kept a very close eye on its patches over the years. A lot has been fixed and many sacrifices have been made, but not much has been added and for all its updates, the game doesn't appear to have radically improved outside of performance and bug fixes. So much was promised and never delivered. The big thing that has always struck me is how barren and plain the game looks now all the problems have been fixed and the reduction in population density to bolster performance. The game was very vibrant with NPC's and vehicles packing the streets but now you're lucky if you see more than 5 other vehicles and 4 pedestrians even at max settings. The new Phantom Liberty expansion adds a new chapter but also promises to include major overhauls to things like the shambolic police system and also aspects originally promised in the 7 years before the game released. They were still lying about features that didn't exist after the game had gone gold for instance. I just don't know if I can force myself back into the game again and I think they've been bloody lucky as the animated series seemed to swing people's opinions of the game in the other direction even though it still had major issues at the time. I actually think the additional fluff could be more important than the actual expanded story content as long as its not paywalled but it all could just be more PR nonsense in trying to shift DLC at a cost. Don't think I wanna be fooled twice. Anyone else looking to get back into it with this?

  8. There has been recent discussion around pro consoles and such already but to me it does not feel like the generation has really gotten going (hampered by Covid to some extent). That said after Xbox's reveal the other day I sat and wondered if any of the consoles really jumps out at me this generation. PS5 vs Xbox seems much of a muchness, that said with the Series S it is much more easily attainable by everyone with it's entry price tag. There are a lack of AAA titles anyway and those that are tend to be on both platforms currently with the odd exception i.e. spiderman and errrm maybe Forza for Xbox That said I think I tend to be drawn towards the Switch and even the Steam deck as being the best options this generation, portability with enough power I can slouch on the sofa of an evening and play some great games. So is there anything that really jumps out at you this generation?

  9. I think as much as the Switch can only do 30fps docked, I think we'll look back and see that it is an incredible piece of kit that really elevates certain games, far superior and different to the Wii too. Having said that, teh PS5 games are slowly starting to churn out and weirdly even though I feel its been a slow year, some developers have started to use the real potential of the graphics. I just wish there was more games that used Haptic feedback in the controllers in creative ways...maybe it was something that developers couldn't get their hands on until the last few years. Maybe another 12 months will change the leaderboard. Xbox really just feels to me like a portable PC now they have Game Pass. I don't see much reason to buy it given I have my own PC at home. I'd rather buy a Steam Deck than the Xbox which is a real shame given how much love I had for the OG Xbox and the 360.

  12. I was offered it early again but could not be arsed πŸ˜… I just don't have the time and rarely switch my PC on before 10pm during these glorious summer evenings.

  13. I do wonder sometimes at why these kinds of games are made, is it just titillation? In the Arma series of military tactical games Bohemia have always made it a point to say they are anti war and their games are always modded into something else entirely like DayZ and Arma Life. Then again, I think back 10 years when COD had that mission massacring civilians in an airport...

So, China has landed it seems. I for one welcome our new masters and overlords πŸ˜πŸ–– I don't listen to the music of Sam Smith but I do love someone with the ability to wind up all the pearl clutchers and old farts πŸ˜„

  21. It's good to be back on 7 days, few games for me strike that nice balance between things to do and fear of dying. Most of the changes are QOL ones and are genuine are for QOL so the game is nicer to look at and to play now. The only thing I'm not sure on it the change to books but some of that is confusion on how they work as there seems to be quite an overlap between some books and skills. Maybe I should spend the next quiet night on the server to read through the book levels and skills and figure this out rather than blindly reading everything πŸ˜„

  22. It's been very disappointing so far - I've barely touched my PS5 of late and now Xbox has hit a brick wall after some initial promise with the game pass format. Phil Spencer's recent, and quick frank interview after the Redfall disaster was actually very telling - it seemed incredibly downbeat, defeatist and gave a harsh reality on where Xbox currently stands against Sony and Nintendo. The PS5 has had the occasional exclusive but there's been no system seller and even Starfield on the Xbox may not be enough to radically change their fortunes as people can just get it on PC and have a far superior experience even with hardware that is 5+ years old. If you have a competent PC and a Switch, you currently have all bases covered basically. Xbox have just announced a new Series S console which has been met with fury because that unit is seen as holding games back as their own developers are under pressure to downscale so they can achieve a respectable performance. Starfield being locked at 30fps is also a miserable announcement especially when 60fps at the very least was promised by all Xbox games going forward. Things have even been a bit dry on PC depending on what you're looking for from new releases but the options are endless on older games. The most successful games of this generation so far have been remakes and there doesn't seem to be much in new ambitious IP's on the horizon and that's a testament to scumbag publishers and developers lacking original ideas. I made a thread several weeks ago covering games from 2008 where there were so many quality titles on the horizon, you actually had to make sacrifices on what to buy because there wasn't enough time. Crazy how times change.

  23. lmao! I guess the only solution is for Activision and Microsoft to pull out of the USA then amirite😎 The FTC outright rejected the heavily amended terms too, so butthurt MS and Activision can't accuse the CMA of being the ultimate cockblockers.

  24. A proper open beta is coming next week from June 21-23 and then the full release will be at the end of summer. No proper date yet. Smart move releasing before the next COD. I'll certainly be trying the beta next week.
