Dragon Quest Builders
GazzaGarratt and 2 others reacted to Luseth for a topic
So whilst waiting for Hogwarts to come out I have sort of put my big games on the backburner as I don't want to get too deep into them only to stop halfway through as I know I will never return. What I have done is find this little gem on the PS subscription and I am currently playing chapter 2. So for anyone that does not know, Dragon Quest is a brilliant JRPG series (with it's last game being their best by far) and they have created a few spin offs recently. This one is essentially minecraft but with a bit of story and direction to it. The game is incredibly colourful and chirpy (despite the story being a little dark and drab) and the idea is that monsters took over years and years ago and now humanity is struggling to survive as they have all forgotten how to build, the ability was taken from them. Humans being social creatures that need to work together they are dwindling and there aren't many left. As you go through you learn recipes and plans, build little towns and bring people together all whilst working through a bigger story where I imagine down the road we will take on the final boss and kick his ass π So for anyone after a small, quite relaxing game to play that has the elements of minecraft I would definately recommend this π There is also a second game which is multiplayer that I will look at playing at some point π3 points -

She was very upset but it was quite hard to work out whether it was because her marriage was going tits up because hubby has a fetish for two of her friend's, or it just being down to the potential significant loss of their income which probably spans tens of thousands a month. Her being in the apology video in the background just added a whole new dose of cringe.3 points -

I dunno, for a game that was due for imminent release, delayed only by a 'trademark dispute' they are showing and providing sweet FA about this game. 9 minutes of walking through an area? For a finished game that seems a bit weird to me that they didnt have more to show. Too long in the tooth and seen too many games flatter only to deceive. I'm happy to be pleasantly surprised but here's my predictions, if it isn't delayed again.... 1. It will have massive network issues at launch and beyond. 2. It will have microtransactions and monetization will feature heavily. I do hope I'm wrong but World War 3, Dead Matter and a whole host of promising games that looked great but ultimately failed to deliver.. help temper any enthusiasm I might have π3 points -
Meh. If we all apologised for dodgy sites we visited we'd all be spending the rest of lives apologising to everyone else. The pros, cons, technical skill, requirements, ability or morality and legality of deep fakes are all interesting discussion points but what sites some random person has visited? I struggle to care less. Obvious that's caveated that the sites someone visits are legal.3 points

Needed to do a squad hunt contract for the black mous missions. I usually don't like to kill other operators if I don't have to but in this case I had to. I got the perfect spawn at the airport. I picked up the contract. My team mates were idiot running around getting themselves killed. I revived one of them 5 times. I finally just left them as they were a liability rather than asset. I get the mini helicopter that is at airport and start flying in the direction of the squad. They must have panic because they are all over the place according to the map. I am low on full so I go gas station to refuel the helo. As that is happening, I get a notice that the squad got downed elsewhere and my payment is authorized. Awesome, mission done and contract done. I look for a safe extraction point. Fly over and extract. Extraction streak goes up to 5. Sometimes the stars just align for you2 points -

For the squad hunt contracts, you don't have to actually kill that squad personally. As long as they go down you get the credit For the black mouse mission, you don't have to extract with the weapon from the squad hunt. As long as you extract with an enemy weapon you will get the credit for the mission2 points -

The Day Before [SCAM]

A huge missed opportunity once again from the devs seems to be the wider consensus and even more doubts arising as to whether they actually have a 'game' - we've already seen these environments for a good two years now and most of the assets seem to have been purchased from Unreal and have been available since 2014. They barely showed off the combat or the mechanics as a whole - what about cover, mantling and what is the actual purpose of the game? Is it like The Division or DayZ? Simple questions and nearly 4 years on we still don't have answers. All we've really seen is a stock character parading through an environment. Didn't look all that scripted but footage seemed very safe and lacking depth. No driving gameplay either which is a huge selling point for this game. Any credible dev would have provided several independent gameplay videos showcasing many scenarios and mechanics. Shouldn't be too hard for them to fire up the latest build and do a step by step walkthrough. It's taken 14 months of persistent badgering just to get them to release this 10 minute video and even then it seemed to be asking too much of them. They've had a couple of significant titles and have been around for many years. What hasn't helped is their backseat approach plus their shady nature. They originated in Russia but then backdoor-relocated to Singapore not so long ago. Nobody can identify the dev team apart from a couple of local faces fronting them and most of their funding comes from a 3rd party company with a large pot to burn. They've certainly bitten off more than then can chew with this game and their approach to the community leaves a lot to be desired but they certainly aren't the little unknown developer with a big potential hit that they want people to believe. If they put together a more constructive promotion of the game then it would really put a lot of concerns to bed for the time being.2 points -

I see both sides. I think the anger is a little bit much from the youtubers as there isn't as much wrong with them as they say there is. However, I do have a problem in people thinking they can make an extremely large buck out of gullable buyers that are more likely to be casual gamers as you say @James5497 because they won't know none the wiser. A PS3 for $400, even refurbished is quite mental, but if people buy them then they won't stop what they're doing. Out of this I think the least DK Oldies could do would be to update their wording somewhat to reflect what you are purchasing. Most of these products worked so the videos for me should've been focused on clarity on their wording more than anything. Oh, and also they should be very clear about Official and Non-Official equipment. I'd be devastated to receive that shite non-standard controller in the first video for over $400. I suppose the difference with me is that I know what i'm looking for. More generally speaking, I'd argue that game pricing has been severely inflated for a number of years now across the board, not just DKoldies, and stops the small percentage of us that love all games to play them and not re-sell them on. Its so incredibly difficult to play on all the games we can find these days on older consoles for an affordable price.2 points -

Everything I have seen suggests there is a game and it's a game I would quite enjoy. It has however been managed and promoted by amateurs (which tbf they are new to this). I think a lot of the issues have been around a small studio trying to do something far grander than their size or budget will allow, if they are managing it and creating the game there are going to be a lot of mess ups and I think that is showing. I do think we will see something at some point but definately would recommend no one pre-orders just in case π2 points -

I agree with your second point - but I do think @Luseth has a point in terms of at least understanding why its happened. They didn't have to and when you remove anything from someone then you usually always get negative media. I think I looked at it as its 20 games initially offered (and still offered to everyone to stick in your library before May so you keep them), most of which were felt like they were owned by a large majority of PS players already. I remember looking at the initial setup costs for each package and it always looked as an additional extra to entice new people to just get a PS plus subscription which feels a given if you're ever going to own a console these days and never a dealbreaker whether or not I took out the basic package. I look at it as one of those where it feels like a 'meh, thats abit shitty isn't it', whereas the other point you put up here deserves the news but thats derailing the thread somewhat π2 points -

New Netflix TOS
IRaMPaGe reacted to J4MES OX4D for a topic
Netflix are adding new terms to crack down on password sharing which essentially locks the account down to the owners very own home. Also if you don't log into your account for more than 31 days, you and hour household will be blocked from the service even if you were away on vacation or have some other circumstance for not using it within this time. If you want to use the service whilst out and about, you have to contract Netflix to receive a one-time code for another fixed location (not device) i.e a hotel when away from home. This would also be limited so if you are on holiday and go between two locations, you can only activate the account in one place. Whilst I understand password sharing to be a big problem (est 100m people exploiting) this is not the answer and it could cause dire inconvenience to existing genuine customers. Those 100m or so users who are accessing it through sharing will not magically turn into subscribers - they will be lucky to capture 1% and will probably drive away a lot more from their current subscribers. Not sure what the best solution would be but what they've pitched has to be the worst for everybody.1 point -

I don't feel the need to defend these companies at all. What I can't stand is all this whinny ass cry baby shit from people I doubt were ever responsible for a multi billion dollar product line and calling the people who do it dumb and greedy. I think it's in my PPR that I have a PHD in electrical engineer and I work for the Intel network communications group. I designed the first graphics chip with integrated analog circuits , I designed the first north/south bridge CPU, I designed and validated the first PCIE switch with broadcomm . Now I designed the ASICs that went into Nokia/Ericsson/ZTE 5G network architectures and I see a bunch a people posting on what developer and companies should be doing and how as if they had a fucking clue. Even James telling us all about patents. Somehow I am pretty confident in saying that he doesn't any of own however. If you want to make a point to these companies the solution is simple, don't buy the product. COD 2022 made $1B on 10 days on a budget of $250. They're clearly not the dumb ones1 point -
Itβs not just about them turning those users into subscribers itβs also about them having to provide the infrastructure for those users, by getting rid of those users it will significantly reduce the strain on there infrastructure and therefore have the knock on affect of massively reducing their costs. That being said if this makes my Netflix experience inconvenient I will be canceling.1 point

Yeah let's spend our free time playing gamemodes we aren't remotely interested in just because they made them. π€¦ The fact is if you by a product no matter what it is you have a right to criticize it especially as they don't only release 9 maps every year. I don't understand this need to jump to defend at all costs these billion dollar companies when people have legitimate gripes, surely if they were to do something about it you would benefit too? If your happy with the game then that's fine but please realise there are plenty of people that aren't the player count and social media etc prove that. Now time for some more mw2 excuse me.1 point

The point that a lot of these YouTubers are making is that DKOldies claim they clean and/or refurbish the consoles which justifies their 3X cost price compared to rivals and the general market, yet in many cases including normal customers, there is huge evidence that they do not always do this and in some, the machines are internally damaged on top. They make all these TikTok's showing the utmost care and attention to these alleged orders yet what people receive and the way it's delivered is literally taking the piss. YouTuber's can burn money on things like this for videos but if you were a normal person that spent $450 on a classic Xbox that was delivered in a bashed up box with the console protected by bog roll and the machine wasn't cleaned or even tested, then you'd feel very hard done by, bordering on scammed. There's not many places you can buy machines safely, especially with places that offer a comprehensive 'specialist' service and guarantee so when they start half-arsing it or not doing things by their book and charging triple, it's kinda sad.1 point -

The painful excuse did not help either. I do think some of the victims are milking it to a degree but I can't speak for how they feel about the situation. If the guy was simply looking at deepfakes of celebs and got caught then it would be embarrassing but forgotten about the next day. I've started reading Leviathan wakes by James Corey as I finally caught up and finished watching the Expanse last year which is a great series and well worth a watch. Though it only covers books 1-6 in the TV series as there's a time jump between the end of book 6 and 7 so the TV series doesn't wrap up all the story lines and I want to know how it ends so thought I better read the books. And knowing there are a few differences between the books and the TV series, I also thought it best to start at the beginning.
