So there has been a rise in modern versions of retro consoles, thinking PS1 mini and the such, typically I don't buy these but one thing I did pick up recently was an xbox controller made to feel and look like the original Duke controller. It's bulky but there is just something about gaming on it (mostly used for Fallout 76 at the moment). Just wondering what tech you guy's have that's a modern take on a classic (I think I saw someone mention the 8bitdo controllers elsewhere? The photo is of my modern duke controller, nice little novelty with this version is not only is it purple but it plays the opening scene from when you first meet Cortana in the original Halo game each time it starts up. (Please excuse the grubbiness my daughter tends to hold this one when she thinks she is gaming with me π )5 points

Kims (Antpools other half π) 100 miles walk for Cancer Research
slamminbones and 2 others reacted to Antpool84 for a topic
My awesome other half Kim is walking 100 miles in June in order to raise as much money as possible for Cancer Research. She has already walked 67 miles and raised Β£230 and I am so proud of her. I know there are so many people that are affected by Cancer, including Kim whose auntie had a Bowel Cancer. If you would like to donate to this very worthy cause the link is below. If you would like to donate in memory of someone Kim is writing the names of those that want this on her Cancer Research t-shirt which she is wearing when doing the walks. Please support her amd this amazing charity if you can, thank you ππ https://fundraise.cancerresearchuk.org/page/kims-walk-100-miles-challenge-giving-page-123 points -

New tech made to look and feel retro...
Luseth and 2 others reacted to GazzaGarratt for a topic
Agreed. Never seen anything like this before! π Hmmm, retro new tech isn't really in this house π The only new part is the HDMI upscaler wire which isn't that flash to take a picture. I've been thinking about getting a refurbished Game Gear though as my one is completely internally shot capacitors wise. You can get the case in different colours on them and get a usb recharchable connection I believe which would definitely make it last longer.3 points -

New PSN subscription.
Riff Machine and 2 others reacted to Luseth for a topic
So this launches today, I had PS now and PS Plus anyway so it has been switched over to premium and I have that until January 2023 which will give me plenty of time to try it out and decide whether or not to stick with the full subscription. For me there are a couple of games that I really want to sink some hours into having never gotten round to it previously and it justifies the subscription at least for now - Ghost of Tsushima Returnal Death Stranding - I did briefly play this but I feel like I never gave it enough time The dark pictures games The Caligula effect There's a couple of games I might go back to such as spiderman and red dead 2 so I imagine for now I will get my money's worth but it will be like some have said, just where the future lies for the subscription3 points -

Thoughts on emulation?
Riff Machine and one other reacted to crispymorgan for a topic
I'll add basically what I mentioned in the other thread. Some older games are just so freakin hard you need save points that emulators offer and original carts don't.2 points -
Yeah, so I mainly emulate and use 8BitDo controllers, but only those which gives the authentic look and feel. I don't use these for any modern gaming, I have an Xbox One controller for that. But there's still amazing devices which allow the use of original controllers on emulation. Raphnet is such one. It's the only device on the market which supports Memory Packs and Rumble Packs.2 points

I decided to play Bart Vs space mutants the other day. I remember playing on the Amiga, and I remember a few of the tricky purple Items on the first level. It got a bit hazey towards the end. Now, full disclosure, I was playing on an emulator (settle down lee). The reason I was playing on an emulator is because this game is fucking nails. There is no way on earth a human can beat this game without hacks. I was using multiple save points and rolling back if I died or made a mistake. There is just no way I could ever see me finishing this any other way, the jumping puzzles alone used about 40 lives. But I finished it and it's another one off my bucket list of games to complete.2 points -

@J4MES OX4D , omg that is Championship Manager porn of the finest quality π Too many days and weeks ploughed into these over the years with @Findmartin . I recall it might have been 98/99 one, I was Leeds and had Robbie Keane and Michael Bridges upfront. Its the only time I can honestly say I blasted everything away. Felt like I uncovered a glitch because nearly every game they would score a hattrick. Bridges scored over 100 goals it was insane. I've bought the latest one so i should really get back on it! @Spacedeck absolutely they are retro! 20 years now they've been out! π The 360 was an incredible work of art after the best console to revolutionise the market, the original Xbox. So many unique and awesome games on there and the UI was perfect for years, especially how Xbox Live worked with it. I now have a PS3 in later years as it was one I missed growing up because Xbox just shone through (I still played PS2 games alongside it instead). I picked up the Mass Effect games for it though and also the Wizard book game which you you could do spells with a move controller, can't remember the name of it now! I soooooo need to fix my Game Gear! Mine needs new capacitors cos the screen and sound has gone awful. Super collection that is. What games would you say are pretty cool to play from a RPG/action background? Dammit @Luseth Matt, with little time I have around manic work i'm now finding myself sideblinded looking back at what games i wanted to add to my collection and play! Got some PS1 games on the way ffs. π2 points -

Well, this is the point where my mind would love to go in absolutely every direction but ends up going nowhere π€£ Great start off for the whole new section, I can see many new threads here that hopefully would be worthwhile. I should open by saying I absolutely love older games and enjoy building my collection in the hope one day i have that much spare time, I can start going through all of them and maybe even having people round for retro nights like I used to do even as a kid (17-21 I had 4-5 random TVs in my front room and had multiple all night gaming sessions with friends playing all kinds of stuff). Not sure what pictures wise to share though right now. I have around or just over 30 different types of consoles right now, but by far I love the Sega Mega Drive and SNES the most. No one can beat a game on a cartridge, its just the feeling of uniqueness and wonder when you have to blow the cartridge and slot before putting in and waiting for the relevant loading Sega logo to appear so you know its worked. Plus games back then were all about the fun factor and no extra frillyness that you had to worry about - looking at you loot boxes. One of my other favourite consoles is my Neo Geo CD. Maybe each one deseves their own little thread but for now i'll just say that this console makes you feel like you're back in the arcades playing those games you always wanted/needed Β£25 to play the whole game through, if you're lucky. Next step for my gaming area is waiting for my turn to have it get updated again, especially with the right storage as thats usually the one thing that stops me playing all my old games. Need a better and slicker system to plug in and play these old consoles without getting stuck with all the wires! π2 points -

Seeing as there is a little bit of interest (though this could turn into just Lee and myself talking about old games) I thought I would show off a couple of games in my Gameboy collection. I have never had them graded so for all I know they could be fake π (And I realise as I'm uploading this I didn't take a photo of the pokemon crystal box but it's in pretty good condition. The pokemon games made up a good portion of my youth so it's probably one of my favourite parts of the collection (though I find it difficult to play the games / modern games these days with the exception of Arceus). But yeah thought it would get the ball rolling. I have a pearl blue? GBA SP that comes out every once in a while, sadly find it a bit uncomfortable to hold over longer spells. I tend to only keep hold of games I have particularly enjoyed so the bulk of my collection is made up of JRPG's / single player story driven games and a good portion of it still get's some game time every now and again. My megadrive broke so that's on my to get list again as those games are now sat in a cupboard gathering a nice thick layer of dust ^_^1 point -

The ledge-hanging sounds pretty different as you can wield a Pistol or whatever. I wonder how long you can "hang" My question is can you ledge camp? Also since launchers will be a secondary can you Ledge-hang an RPG? π The sliding into prone, that could be the new "drop shot" I'm assuming you can jump slide a strange angle for a filthy position to bamboozle enemies perhaps like round a corner? With a Shotgun. π I'm excited and a bit apprehensive about some of these new mechanics.1 point -

nice collection @Luseth , i see you are a fan of pokemon, i think i vaguely remember golden sun, what was it about? anyway here is my gameboy collection, i played these games until i got a pc and later a ps3 zelda and warrioland though were kicking my ass so much when i was younger, they had some very difficult parts, i remember i was completely stuck on some dungeon/puzzle of zelda and had abandoned the game and only finished it very recently after i saw a walkthrough, so yeah that game took me more than 10 years to finishπ1 point -

I did and it's fun. There's 6 cups in total, once you complete them all, they just reset at a harder difficulty. Playing online is probably the biggest draw back, there's 4v4 but only if using 4 switches and each switch has 2 players playing per switch. 4v4 with randoms is something they really need to add. There's the creation of a team but I think this is somewhat limited, I jut haven't joined a club to try it out yet. You can't select no team and have the CPU vs CPU which is something I'd have liked to watch. Overall very fun, great gameplay but some areas are lacking and could use some improvement.1 point -
I'm happy enough with Southgate and think he deserves the world cup which to me is where he should be assessed, a lot of the recent results have not been great admittedly but you can see he is also looking ahead and if we disrupt it now we are back to square 1. Being a Birmingham City fan at the moment has really been tough over recent years but it appears like we are on the verge of being sold and there is a lot of speculation as to who will end up owning us and with Bassini being the front runner, who is really behind / backing him. Suspicions are that it is David Sullivan at West Ham (as he is in the process of selling West Ham currently) which would be interesting as he left us previously and we found ourselves in a world of hurt. On the flip side our fans blame him for our current plight so it will take a lot for him to win them over.1 point
