Monday Night Football Match Report - 1st Mar 2021
Dan94 and 2 others reacted to GazzaGarratt for an article
A night where the drum roll lasted longer than expected for FGFC to kick into a real gear this week. But once it did, it banged like never before. Season 56 was a real hard season to overcome, especially as we've noticed that it actually gets harder when we have a 10/11 players. However, it really adds to the excitement as is even more rewarding when the hard work pays off. For the first time that I can remember, FGFC got rolled over comfortably even the first 3 games. It wasn't just warm up nerves. The teams we came up against were on point and ripped our defence apart. At least we now know how Jurgen Klopp feels like when whatever he tries of late, it just wasn't working. Highlight though was Gary Goals @LordBaguette incredible skills in mini sparks of craziness which deserved a few goals after he beat 4-5 defenders in 2 separate occasions, but the goal just didn't want to come for Gary, much to the anger of @LordBaguette . Clearly alexobar felt sorry for us when they turned up against us after 3 losses in a row, so a quick quit gave us a lifeline whilst FGFC were struggling to pick the points up to remain in Division 3. Although h3ro team who also played with PSG, didn't feel pity and took a 1-0 lead early doors in our 5th game of the night. Trying to find inspiration, Sexual Chocolate @jordie1892 started shouting for throw-ins through his TV. It seemed to work, weirdly. In injury time a little inside ball to Maccanohairman @Macca89 from Rodman @Lurch gave him the perfect opportunity for a trademark Macca curler into the far right corner. Riding our luck in the second half, a strange penalty given away by Sexual Chocolate was saved by AI Diddums kept us in it. Unfortunately the AI Diddums suicide-passed to @jordie1892 to give their forward a tap in. He then chipped a ball on 2 minutes later straight to their forward (again!) and could only parry his shot back to them who finished their second goal in 2 minutes to take a 3-1 lead. Dejected but not defeated the Forever Gaming passing started to flow. A lovely passing move so a rasping drive from Rodman get tipped over for a corner. We didn't let the momentum slip as the resulting corner was whipped over for our trademark FGFC corner with @Lurch getting the header at the front post (2-3). Final balls were just getting dispossessed, tackles started to fly in as we could sense their nerves. An 87th minute attack saw the Assist King @Macca89 scoop the ball over the centre back's head for Gary Goals @LordBaguette to belt the ball home for a 3-3 draw. Whilst the football juices were starting to flow, we just couldn't get the results we needed. That well fought 3-3 draw wasn't much reward and a 1-1 draw quickly followed. Long term absentee Henrik Larrson @Glen11 was back after injuring his left ball sack in a dog accident which left him missing numerous weeks. His return through the night meant we had 11 for the first time, so in good spirits Club Tropicana @GazzaGarratt took the job between the goalposts. It was a difficult job and some goals crept in which I was hoping wouldn't be the case but credit to the lads. A fantastic spirit saw FGFC fight back from 2-0 down to 2-2. After falling behind early in the second half, @Glen11 was back in form like he hadn't been away, with a quick equaliser and then @Macca89 started making the late goals a habit with an 88th minute winner. A valiant effort followed but we succumbed to a late winner which sentus down by the end of the night. We could've easily felt like the night got the better of us, but no one felt down and gave up. We were thirsty to keep the spirits high and really good football that started to show in the past few games. Division 4 started and everything clicked. 👊 Early goals from Barlos @Findmartin , Larrson and Rodman gave FGFC a 3-1 lead at half time of the first game and the carnage continued into the second half with another 4 goals hammered in, with a beaty of a freekick nestled in the bunch of goals from no other than Maccanohairman himself. A few high score draws followed and as the night entered the final stages with people signing off for the night, Monday Night Football fireworks erupted, with an explosion of 17 goals across 3 games. The forward play was incredible, Sexual Chocolate getting 5 in one game and some direct teamplay as some usual defensive minded players switched up their positions to contribute towards the tally chart - most notably Stretch Armstong @Stretch616 notching a hattrick too. A little gutted that I didn't get any highlights from those games but I managed to get a highlight reel from with the goals from the 7-1 win that started off Division 4. Promotion back to Division 3 was secured, leaving a title game for another night. @jordie1892 finishing with 12 goals and the Assist King @Macca89 on top of the assists with 11. Great to see @Glen11 back and notching a trio of goals and assists in each column. A great night of football and laughs from the terrific twelve that turned up. Thanks, @GazzaGarratt and @Plumbers Crack . (TLDR at the bottom; plus two comics from the Tumblr to help those understand my anxiety on photos) I wanted to take the time to address mental health and my own issues that have plagued me since... I can remember. The thing is, yeah, it's difficult to talk about. The non-fun stuff is, right? And, as a society, especially here in the US, we don't really ever address mental health. So, anything in that realm still carries a heavy stigma. Talking about mental health helps to normalize it. No one really thinks differently if we say something like "I have COPD/Diabetes/hypertension/etc." But, the moment the mention of anything regarding mental health comes along, it's "No. I don't want to hear it. Just stop being ______ and be normal." So, the post was more than just adding to the discussion in the thread. It was to let anyone in our own community know that they aren't alone. I have coped in my own ways for so long. I actually mentioned to a therapist last October that I don't know what or who I am if my general extreme apathy was no longer with me. I care about a very few things. I don't care about a whole lot of other things. Apathy is my coping mechanism for almost anything. We all have issues. We all have things we need to come to terms with regarding ourselves. I am not my PTSD, my depression, my ED, or my body dysmorphia. I am not the traumas that happened to me that pushed me into combat martial arts. However, and this is coming from someone who basically always chooses to "forget" and "bury" to "move on" with life, if you can't easily talk about what's going on or what previously happened, then you can't really heal. For example, it took me at least 15 years to come to terms with a certain word that I still don't like to say or type. It took 2 terrible relationships for me to really sit down and hash it out with a friend as to why I was okay (but not) about staying in them until it took 1) my friends basically intervening and 2) cops being involved. But, it really wasn't until I was honest with myself and others before I could be... this person I am now. The weird, quirky, food loving, give basically no-shits, person that Carl knows me as. So, if someone wants to ask me a question about basically anything and that question is coming from genuine curiosity and not malicious and ignorant, I'm more than happy to explain it. I hold that rule with my colleagues at work... and anyone who knows me. TLDR --> We can't grow as a human society if we pretend things don't exist. Same for a person. You can't heal and move on if you can't talk about it... especially in a safe place. Comics:2 points -

This is spot on imo. I don't really care of the setting or time period where COD is set; COD4 and MW2 were my favourite 2 COD's but COD WaW was great too as I love WW2 era and the Black Ops series has been brilliant too, especially earlier on. The fact you can't now jump on COD to chill out after a busy day at work and just have fun is a travesty. Even in MW2019, the only game mode I could play with my best mate was Cyber. Yes it was sometimes sweaty, but it was pretty chilled most of the time and you'd run into some pretty cool players and get chatting, I could easily play hours and hours of that, it wasn't full on. Cold War on the other hand is just an out and out sweat fest. I saw someone the other day on Twitter under a JGOD tweet, complaining about how SBMM has gotten so bad and strong in the game, that it's actually causing issues in their friendship group for when they play together, as in some players are decent and slow are awful, but when they play together they automatically get a strong lobby as half the team is above average and the lesser players just get destroyed so its pointless playing together and the 'worser' players have to just play together to get a lobby that matches their skill level. The lobbies should be based on ping and then randomised mostly; yes have SOME skill level active, but not so every game is a balls to the wall sweat fest. I'm not sure if the older CODs had absolutely no SBMM, but I remember playing SnD on COD4/MW2 with a full party, all having a laugh and catching up on how our weeks had been etc then you'd run into a strong full team and have to really try for 1 or 2 maps, but because it was only now and then you relished the challenge and enjoyed it regardless of losing or winning. With the last few CODs its been like this every game which just isn't enjoyable. The main reason why I just play Rebirth Island now as its a good mixture between traditional MP (respawn if a teammate is still alive) and the Warzone concept. To summarise, I don't care where its set or what the guns are, just make it less of a sweat fest so you can actually play it with mates and not feel like an MLG pro trying to win 500k every. single. game. 😅2 points

How I see it is that no one is pressured to share or say anything they want to. I would still value you as being an amazing FGer whether you did or didn't share your pictures so never feel like we would ask. I think its one where this place seems to create a safe haven for most of us that we don't feel pressured to share stuff. Its never easy sharing stuff, so for you to share something like what you just did, makes me respect you even more so. Keep doing you, La. You've been a revelation since you've been around the place, supporting people, gathering the troops for raids and I really enjoy all your discussion points. So, in my current mental state of trying to accept myself more and face my own issues head on... this is probably going to be a first in trying to explain this to someone who isn't 1) a therapist, and 2) a fellow person who suffers from such mental anguish. (Fair warning for those who are reading, this is going to be a serious post. (TLDR at the bottom) Before I get into trying to explain something that I rarely talk about with anyone who hasn't had to deal with this, let me drop this Tumblr link, which explains a lot of this very well: misspixnmix MISSPIXNMIX.TUMBLR.COM I DO NOT HAVE AN EATING DISORDER P01 I’ve been having some pretty intense internal arguments about whether or not to start posting this, but finally bit the bullet. Last year I was diagnosed with... I will start with that one of the major blessings for me during the pandemic is the requirement to be fully "masked up". No one can really see my face. Just my eyes. I can hide in baggy clothes and gym clothes basically all the time. I can stay home indefinitely. Sure, I'm an introvert. But, the feeling of constantly being judged for how I look, if I look nice or good enough, if I meet the basic standards of what people deem "sort of attractive", that pressure has been mostly gone for the last year. I am basically the only girl/woman in my family in my generation. I have 9 cousins in my generation, all guys. I grew up in a very Asian culture where the best affirmation a girl could get wasn't if she was top of her class (I was from kindergarten and up to third year in HS) or given sports awards (I collected a few because I enjoyed baseball), but if she was considered pretty. From having the perfect straight hair, to the perfect light complexion, to the whitest and straightest teeth, to the perfect nose, to the smallest waist. I was put in a few beauty pageants to please my mother, and all it did was have people pick out my physical flaws. My jaw not being narrow enough. My cheeks being too full. My height never being tall enough. My photos never being good enough and still being judged on appearance when I was not even there. My "skinniest" days was during a time when being a size 6 (which is approximately a 28" waist) still was not good enough for the matriarchs in my family. This was long before I got into actual fitness. So, it was just really rarely eating and being near skin and bones, but still having a friend who would give me a sandwich and makes sure I ate it during lunch period. I struggle with my own body image. I see a photo of myself and can point out a million and one flaws. A photo of me existing for other people that I do not deem "decent" enough is terrifying to me. Because it means I can be judged whenever. Unlike if I see someone in real life, my appearance is just a fleeting thing for that moment. Not something to be taken for judgment later. However, that is not to say that photos do not exist of me lol. A very select and curated amount of photos exist, with a handful of terrible looking ones of me, which only like, my closest friends have. My friend actually took 2 really really terrible photos of me today when I visited her, and her son wouldn't leave me alone. He just wanted to sit on my lap while I read him a book. The photos are terrible. But, I also know that she won't post them, and she also understands my mental space. So, TLDR --> I have body dysmorphia issues mixed with lingering ED issues. The Tumblr comic explains what it is like (at a more severe case). Photos of me circulating scare the hell out of me because it means people judging me indefinitely instead of during the few moments I am with them IRL. I combat falling straight down an ED hole by knowing I need to fuel myself for performance. Side note: every so often, I do think, "hey, I look not half bad today" and might take a selfie.. This is only a recent development.2 points -

I currently dart around the A roads of Northamptonshire in a 2017 VW Polo Gti 6C Bought a couple of years ago as I was missing the feeling of racing on a regular basis thanks to various injuries, and just wanted something that made my drive to work a bit more interesting. Was torn at the time between a couple of different cars like the Golf GTi/R and a BMW 125i/330, but saving for a wedding at the time and remortgaging the house made me consider finances and thought I needed to be a bit more sensible. It’s a great little car for me and the wife, with plenty of power and great handling and regularly makes me laugh. Definitely surprises a number of more powerful cars in the twisty bits. Only downside is that it’s not got much space in the back and pre Covid I was spending every week at the fuel pump spaffing away 50quid a time on Mr Shells finest 😂1 point

Also feel it could be a mentality problem too. Once you win the league with ease almost and then the Champions League, it must be hard to carry on with that intensity and motivation when you're already at the top. I guess that's where Pep has the experience of winning multiple trophies with Barca and get emulate this with the City team to retain titles etc. I definitely think the whole no fans being at grounds has amplified it further. Imagine Anfield after losing 2 games on the bounce at home, yet alone 5...1 point -

What type of 'Call of Duty' game DO YOU actually want?
jordie1892 reacted to J4MES OX4D for a topic
Another reason why I think COD will never return to its glory days is down to how the gaming landscape has changed. The golden era of COD around MW2 and BO1 was when deathmatch was still very popular and level progression was a big aspect of people's ongoing enjoyment. Someone going 30-4 was a great gameplay for a YouTube video and there were no competitive stresses. I bet veteran arena shooter players of the millennium days did not like this type of game or its format the same way many don't like COD in its current state. Nowadays, getting 30 kills is nothing and gameplay commentaries, unless they are giving tips on cheesing or OP weapons, are largely redundant. Someone even getting a double nuke barely gets any attention these days or going 100-0 whilst using knife only. Even the new nuke world record set the other day (72 seconds) didn't bat an eyelid in the community. Sadly it's all about skin culture today and looking good in-game. The e-Sport mentality is being injected into g-fulled players with a rapid meta in terms of mechanics and competitive matchmaking. You can be playing casually yet onscreen it looks like you are sweating it like crazy. Prestige also means little now - a few years ago, players were reaching Prestige 10 level 1000 just after Christmas when even I would struggle to reach just the max prestige over the duration of a year. Although I can still comfortably hold my own even in the most sweatiest SBMM riddled matches, I think a lot of the fun has been sucked out of the experience because of the way people have been conditioned to play and how the game is designed. It's more mentally exhausting than fun at times. One other factor which has diminished the fun of the COD titles pretty much the whole of the last gen was disappointing kill/scorestreaks. I can barely name any after Black Ops 2 they were that forgettable. Even ones that returned to the series just didn't have the presence, enjoyement or sheer power like they did in older titles. I really don't know how they got this so wrong and why they haven't bounced back. Could be that it's just another tiring aspect but certainly they sucked from Ghosts onward.1 point -

Sounds like a great idea and a super idea to ask everyone before we look into what to do next. I think as more and more of us are getting on, I really want to make sure they can feel like they can contribute and create stuff themselves, all for the community cause. I think this is a SUPER idea and we should get it up as an event! The game isn't going anywhere so we shouldn't be in any rush to do stuff. This is why I'm comfortable just creating more places, reinforcing more current builds because it adds to the fun of it all. I'd rather create something near the swamp to smelt the Iron to make stuff than hop via my own personal world to speed stuff up. Sometimes it makes sense but I enjoy the idea of even saying to each other 'how should we do this?'....and now we can build LONGBOATS...I think we should explore the seas over the coming weeks and watch us get obliterated together by some sea serpent. Sounds deligtful and hilarious even when I type it! 😄🤣1 point -
