New (budget) gaming PC
J4MES OX4D and 2 others reacted to phil bottle for a topic
Have a look at PC Part Picker too, it has a system builder and shows if there any compatibility issues. Prices are pretty steep these days so with that budget you're looking at a 1080p build at most I would say.3 points -
New (budget) gaming PC
GazzaGarratt and one other reacted to Mikepjbell for a topic
I've been thinking about getting a budget gaming PC for a while which for the most part will be used for website related stuff, but it'd be nice to play some games too, including some of the more modern titles and racing sims if at all possible. Main considerations: - I have a 32" IPS monitor thingy which isn't 4k but it's 1440 I think? I can check on that... - Budget: no more than £800 or below £1000 at a stretch - I have a display port connection free on the back of the monitor so a video card with that on would be nice, unless HDMI is the only way forward with gaming? I don't know. I could swap connections about if required. - I don't mind building the PC, and a pre built one would be ideal, but I'm not fussed - As much bang for buck really, ideally 16gb of relatively decent RAM, OK processor and vid card if at all possible. So I could do with some help from savvy UK people on this one. I used to build PCs all the time so I had a really good handle over hardware requirements but things have moved on, to the point where Intel aren't necessarily the only choice these days? Any help would be greatly appreciated!2 points -
Mass Effect Tease - Henry Cavill

Rumors are terrible... but I'm so here for it. Because 1) I love the original trilogy and never knew modern games could have such depth outside the JRPG world. 2) I've sort of been a fan of Cavill since The Count of Monte Cristo. And, 3) He's a gamer and will do his best to do justice to the series. Now then, my only issue with this is what version of Shep we will get. The thing about the games is that you could play him as a nice guy, or a bit of a wanker, you could choose your love interest....and you have to choose on more than one occasion which of your companions lives or dies. Netflix did a show a year or two ago where you could choose between options at various stages, that would be cool if you could choose your Shepherd and some of his or hers or theres decisions 🙂2 points -

I dunno, we all read what happened, they went into with no thought or any idea what they wanted to do, except make money of course. If it's just a soulless exercise for the mighty dollar and no one is putting their heart into it I find it totally normal that it would fail.2 points -
Valheim - Game News
Riff Machine and one other reacted to Plumbers Crack for a topic
Logged in for a quick peek at the island and got an update..... Hello Valheimers! Todays patch has some major changes, the biggest change is the updated socket backend which should improve connection issues for a lot of players. Vulkan support as been enabled in Windows builds and can be enabled for now by adding "-force-vulkan" as a launch option in Steam properties for Valheim. This might fix some random crashes related to GPU drivers. World corruption caused by loging out and and the same time pressing ALT+F4 has been fixed. Some balancing fixes was made on bosses to make them more challenging ( u guys are killing them too fast ). NOTE: Due to changes in character save data, once a character has been loaded & saved in this new version, they can no longer be loaded in an older version of valheim. * Crafting item-dupe bug fix * Harpooned player & ship bug fix * Fixed player ragdoll * Bonemass,Moder,Yagluth difficulty tweaks * Moder music updated * Tombstone bugfix (probably wont fix disappearing tombstones though) * Fixed world corruption caused by pressing ALT+F4 while logging out. * Deathsquitos have slightly longer audio range * Tweaked audio on blast-furnace & spinning wheel * Shared map position setting is saved per world * Updated network stats (F2) * Building destruction drop-fix * Vulkan support in windows builds * Network disconnection bugfix * Updated socket-backend and also....... Vikings! When Valheim first hit Steam Early Access just three weeks ago, we hoped that all the hard work our small team put into the game these past three years would get the attention it deserved. Little did we know just how much Valheim would resonate with all four million of you. That’s right! Three weeks into Early Access, and we’ve hit another milestone, four million brave souls embarking on the most dangerous feat in over a thousand years of Viking history - trying to make Odin proud. Some of the latest: This past weekend, we hit 500,000 concurrent players - this puts Valheim in the top 5 most played games in the history of Steam. Valheim has already been played for a combined total of 10,000 years! That’s 3,649,980 more days than the 20 days it has been on Steam Early Access. Still climbing the Steam’s Top 250 best reviewed games of all time, now sitting in 57th place! 81,000+ Overwhelmingly Positive reviews For the fourth (and surely not final) time - thank you!!! We couldn’t have wished for a more engaged, passionate and supportive community, and all of your amazing creations and ideas are keeping us motivated to deliver the Valheim you all deserve. Praise Odin! The Iron Gate Team2 points -

So I have gone and bought myself a gaming laptop. After a fair while looking at specs and education myself a bit about what's out there I have decided upon the following HW to get me into the world of PC gaming. Acer Nitro 5 with the 17.3" monitor and running Intel core i7. Graphics card is the GTX1660. 16Gb Ram and 256SSD. I am hoping this should keep me going for a fair while now to be fair! I look forward to getting involved with a few other faces and embarking on my PC expansive world discovery!1 point -

New (budget) gaming PC
GazzaGarratt reacted to FallenDark200 for a topic
Honestly coming from someone who just finished a pc build, the market for gpu's is rough. You can get maybe a 5700xt and still play 1440p but higher resolutions might be a problem. 60fps at 1440p or higher at around 1k is do able just gotta know where to look. I'd say if you can find a ryzen 5 5600 for mrsp but it's litterally like finding needles in a haystack. Also depends on the games your trying to play as well. Like nothing fancy the mobo and storage psu won't be a huge deal. I wanted a system to play anything at high res. At 1440 so I went with a ryzen 5900x and a rtx 3080 so most things will be fine at 1440p but that combo right now your looking at paying around 2k alone. Best thing to do is your research and maybe actually look at forums and maybe join a couple pc groups on Facebook as well. If you want any other help let me know.1 point -

Disclaimer.... I haven't played the game in 2 weeks either, just have no desire and the "new" content didn't change that. I still watch videos on it as that's more fun than the game. Cold war has sent me back to Destiny crucible even though that game is awful it's at least fun. Anyway this new map (if I played) goes on the list with pines and Miami as maps I don't play....good call treyarch 😂1 point -

We are/were/have watched The Expanse. And, seriously, I got serious Mass Effect vibes watching it. It can be done. It can be such an amazing limited-run series. If it's done, the romances, I hope, would be what was the most common with the best arcs. For Fem-Sheps, that would be Garrus. For Male-Sheps, it would be Liara. (IMHO) I, truly, loved the ending. But, I also played the series after it was fixed. What show was that?1 point -

Anthem 2.0 Reboot
BO7H B4RRELS reacted to GazzaGarratt for a topic
Well, I lost a fiver so overall it didn't hurt me much based on the fact I bought it for that in the hope it would get a huge free update like No Mans Sky did. Whilst it doesn't change much for me, 2 things stand out. 1, That I find it amazing that a game with such huge budgets, give an extra 2 years of budgets to fix it, can just be given up on and 2, shows that game development is really hard and takes years. Even more so makes games like Destiny standout that they can create big live service world games and make them last, in quite tough evolving conditions.1 point -

Name: Grand Central Location: FG Server, Home Base UPDATE: Poked around the inside tonight, goal was getting a working level 3 forge, meadery (cauldron & fermenter), and legit storage bank. After farming 70 copper to make the magic happen, I went to work. I'm quite happy with the results and think this might be the best, and most compact storage set up. This allows 500u of 12 items in only 2 x 1.5 cubed area, 500x16 for a 2x2 or 6k and 8k unit capacity respectively. That's pretty compact considering most small outposts are at least 4x6! I splurged with some sconces but never fear, there is plenty more copper out in the world. I guess I was that anal-retentive guy for label and sorting after all. So go out, forage and bring back the spoils to the potion pantry. I plan on doing similar ones for other goods as well. Last but not least, feel free to have a brew and curl up by the fire on backs of all those deer we slaughtered!!1 point -

I still haven't finished Fallout 4. STILL! I got so distracted with base building, then there was a bug where one of my camps wouldn't get above 75% on happiness or whatever... so infuriating. Then I think I got another bug right at the end of the game, so I couldn't complete it. Great list to start with! I would say Witcher should be in there, but I haven't played any of the series. I heard it was fantastic. And, Mass Effect Legendary, just so you can see the difference in visuals (or experience it for the first time). Then there's Civilization 4, 5, and 6. I like 4 the best, but obviously 6 will be the newest graphics. So excited for you! Hope to catch you on Valheim!1 point -

Nice one, will get you added on Steam at some point today. I came back to PC gaming around 2012, first with Civilisation 5 and then with the DayZ mod. But I was using a work laptop which allowed me about an hour an a half on DayZ before overheating and dying. I loved that mod so much I saved my pennies for a gaming machine, best move I ever made.1 point -

Love they've already got a road map for this game. Here's the roadmap at a high level if anyone is interested: Be real interesting to see some further crafting elements to see what they can create. I haven't really even touched the surface with the seas so i don't the extent of what you can do now so its great to see even more coming in update 3. Not sure what they can do with Combat Improvements. I mean the game is pretty basic on that level and based on how it looks and how chill the game is, i'm not even sure it needs too much work. Its not like its going to be Ghosts of Tsushima anytime soon 😄 Definitely would welcome more enemy variants at some stage though but most exciting of all is that they will be doing even more bosses. Considering we're enjoying taking our time through them, its great to hear they're going to extend the RPG element of the game even further. A £15 game and without all of this it was already worth it.1 point
