    PC gaming for noobs

As my daughter is hopefully leaving home for good this year I have a spare room. This room used to be a place where my weights and other assorted shit lived in my house, that is not going to happen again. Due to covid stopping me spending cash on fun I've now got some money to finally waste on PC gaming, something I've thought about in the past but ultimately dismissed. This is possibly largely to do with not wanting to waste a significantly sum of money( though that's been happening throughout my life especially at various sex shops due to being married but that's a different post altogether 😉) so PC gaming for noobs any help/advice is welcome because I know jack shit. It's not something I need to rush into and with covid I hear hardware is still hard to get. I've looked into furniture as I want a space for myself as the wife has decided my usual gaming space, our front room is her office. I will when they are available add a ps5 as well. So publications,.websites and general things to consider all will give me something more interesting to look at than actually doing work at work. Oh I will also want it for other computer type stuff, no not porn🙄 but my photography shit which will be one of my other pastimes that gets some love this year. Thanks in advance. 🤔

  3. Wanted to properly thank y'all for this. It's exciting for sure. I've been fighting off the covid during the holidays. So this was nice to see.

  4. Spend the bulk of your budget for the PC on the GPU for gaming. Then, spend a hefty amount on the CPU, that will help with gaming and your photography.

  5. A good starting point is your budget - that should enable us to point you in the right direction and we'll go from there.

  6. An impromptu evening of GT Sport on an FG Friday which was not expected but gratefully received! Without @JBR-Kiwi , @Greboth had a slightly easier night of it in the main although i'd like to think the gap is closing ever so slightly from the chasing pack. What's great to see is that the whole pack are becoming ever closer in timings which means we are gonna have even more tighter racing. I think it will also end in a lot of 'Sorry's' and balls up for sure. I think last night showed @phil bottle is just seriously unlucky of late with the amount of times he got bashed off the track 🙈🤣 The gap on qualifying between first and last is now starting to become less than 10 seconds for everyone and whilst that can still feel a lot, many races will involve penalties, racing incidents, cock ups and then tyre degradation and pit stop fuelling so lots still can happen. I think Paul @slamminbones made some huge strides in his timings last night, especially the second race, alongside newcomer @Stretch616 that had speed right from the start. Matty @Misneach_ pulled a few good lap times out before he had to go and I think the luck for @phil bottle started to change from the first race to the second; a sixth out of 10 for the first race but second out of 6 in the last race and not far off @Greboth for a few good laps. Being away on holiday meant I was a little distracted in the first race which meant I dropped back to 9th I think at one stage due to the first corner on Monza. Lots of late breaking caused Phil to be sent off the track, with @Mikepjbell showing his 'Usual Suspects' efforts losing all control of the first chicane. Stretch and Matty came unscathed chasing after Greebs but as the laps went on the time gap stretched with a few minor errors coming in. Stretch lost it on too wide and allowed me to get through on a later lap which caused his car to swing out into the sand. Mike managed to also skip the chicane, and only get a 4.5 second penalty which shoved him into second 🤣 . I couldn't catch him after making my way through the pack. Meanwhile Stretchy took Matty on the line based on his penalty with Tom @LordBaguette , Tony @TonyAE86 and Paul @slamminbones continuing to get to grips with the race pace and Gr.4. 2nd race was a real good learner for us all, with Greebs way out ahead but it was nice to give everyone to time to understand how to get the best out of the Audi TT on a fairly simple track. Tom @LordBaguette started to really get some race pace by the end of the night, whilst Stretch looked yet again fast. I had a 'Willow Springs' moment where my Qualifying was solid and super close to Greebs (0.3 seconds) but I was unable to turn into the race where I probably gave everyone too much respect as literally everyone went screaming into the first corner. I fought back to be right behind Phil but I had a go on the outside of one of the final corners and probably should've shown abit more aggression to take an inside line. All in all a great night again and I think with a bunch of people missing and also new people to join in on GT Sport FG races, we could be looking at a near full FG race night!! GGFG

  9. Out of sheer laziness of not wanting to do a blog but still needing a place to hold myself accountable, this is going to be my place to track myself in my 2021 health goals (in addition to doing some online "bet" with a large [like couple of grand] winner pot). What will be in subsequent posts: Workouts. Goal progress. Random babbling. Fair warning, I babble online a lot when I have an online outlet. I prefer writing. Background: I have struggled a lot since I can remember on physical weight and perception. I'm Asian, and I grew up in a culture that prized women to be as skinny as possible and as fair-skinned as possible. So, between my mother commenting on how fat I was (when in reality, I wasn't but I did not realize that at the time), to my father doing his best to undo the mental damage of that whenever he was home from business trips, let's just say I had a rather unhealthy relationship with food until I was 20. I barely ate due to being afraid to eat and also not having much money, and if I did, it was not the best thing, but it was what I could afford or what someone gave me. Unintentionally, I developed much healthier habits when I was stuck in the Philippines for a year. Between combat martial arts training and just eating real food, I found a sense of peace in it. Nutrition is a rabbit hole I can dive into for hours and days. So, I've gone back and forth between being relatively healthy and being utterly lazy. Basically, when I stop fitting into my clothes comfortably, I start getting back into my health routine. I've been getting back into it since August of 2020. I have two doctors who keep tabs on me. One who I see on an almost weekly basis. Two coaches who really hold me accountable on not slacking and putting in the work. And, now, this plus my year-end goal to complete to move onto my next goal. The goals are related. I can't do the next part without completing this. Current: I'm starting today with the initial weigh-in. The online bet has a 6-month goal of losing 10% weight. Based on what I know about myself, I can safely and mostly easily lose that. The next (final) 10% will be more difficult, but it will be a healthy weight. Overall, I'm more focused on measurements than weight. I had a doctor in my teen years who noted that I was at a perfect weight based on medical knowledge, but it did not physically work for me (body fat percentage was too low). Exercise Programming: HIIT workouts 2x a week (social) Boxing workout 1x a week (social) Weights 1x a week with some added cardio (home) Nutrition improvements: Intermittent fasting with an 8 hour window to eat Keto/carb cycling for my sanity (keto-paleo fan, but I've learned that I do a lot better when I cycle it) Keeping the dairy but lowering consumption Focusing on high-quality versus quantity

  12. Does that include monitor, keyboard and mouse? With photography (depending on the level you want to work at) monitor can be critical

Having spoken briefly to @Diddums he suggested at least £1500 which is the ball park I was in. @RenFengge as I have no clue I was thinking I need someone to build as I'd guess you don't want to go pre-built

  14. Easiest recommendation on gaming chair? SecretLab For PC? Are you doing a pre-build or you building yourself? I no longer build myself because it's not cost effective enough to warrant it. If I'm going to drop $2k on components, I want a service and warranty. Also, going to PC build companies tend to get you the scarce components that are eaten up by bots.. like the GPUs.

When I mean "pre-build" i mean like getting it from a PC builder. Here in the US, I bought my laptop from Maingear. My desktop is coming from Xidax. You can customize your build with them down to the thermal paste... and get service and a warranty. I think one of the builders you have in the UK is ChillBlast? I would try going to a PC builder and discussing what you need with them. If you're concerned about upsell, I think there's plenty in the clan who would review the specs for you. My rule of thumb when I look into building a PC is that I do not cheap out on the stuff that is difficult or time consuming to replace (motherboard, GPU, CPU). I'll save coin on going from 64GB ram to 32GB ram knowing that I can add ram later. I'll save a bit on the hard drive from the builder since that's a relatively easy swap later or I can add storage space as needed. Power supply doesn't have to be the most watts initially. Again, something easy to upgrade. If you're going to overclock, then get the better thermal paste if it's an option. If you're not, then don't waste your $$ on it... even if it is like a few dollars more. However, in my experience of graphic arts, gaming, and such for computers, you're going to want a powerful GPU and CPU. Monitor quality is going to be super important for your photography if you are hoping for super accurate colors during editing. Calibrating your monitor is a whole other discussion. I know you said about looking at resources to go through for researching this? I skim pcmag and tomshardware. I tend to read a little in PCGamer. But, I do take all that information from everywhere on the web and basically bounce thoughts off others in like Reddit. £1500 is a great starting point budget for a PC. You will get something very kick-ass in that range.
