This is going to be a game changer, mark my words. This is AMD's comeuppance for all the shit they've been dumping all over Intel in the CPU market. Whilst expensive, the fact that you're getting so much bang for those bucks at least brings the performance in line with what you're paying. This all remains dependent on what the benchmarks look like obviously, and not what Nvidia's chart says as we all know how easy it is to bullshit charts in your favour. I'll be honest, my 2070S is looking a bit dated already if these charts are accurate but there's no reason to update yet, it still shreds at 1440p. It'll suck to see everyone else running circles around me though 😄 @Plumbers Crack this will definitely be a boost to SC but keep in mind that that game is still an alpha and extremely poorly optimized. I'd say that the vast majority of the time the game runs poorly, it's not your PC, it's the game. It might be worth playing something that's very well optimized for a bit just to see how well it runs, to give you some context, before you judge your system's performance on SC. Do yourself a favour Dave, download the following games (all free) and play them for a bit, just to see how things play out. Also ensure you have Nvidia's overlay enabled so you can see your FPS (I have this enabled at all times, let me know if you need instructions): Planetside 2 (if your PC can run this at good settings and good FPS, it'll run anything, this is a massive game which in the right fight will bring your PC to its knees). Team Fortress 2 Destiny 2 If you want, even World of Warcraft has a trial (the retail version which is the wanky shit one, but it's worth it just to see how it runs). Remember, you can delete all of these whenever you want, it's just for trialling purposes to get some context.

Me. That's me. I exist for angry reactions. As much as I love your enthusiasm philly, I am far too cynical to spend money on any alphas or early access anymore. DayZ has been in early access for as long as it's existed, so has Star Citizen and 7D2D. It's become a thing now, where people just keep tinkering on games for as long as they exist and it irritates me. We're effectively funding their hobby. Some games are awesome but when I pay for something, I expect a finished product. Which if you think about it is fucking retarded, as I also despise all the big-name publishers. I'm my own worst enemy, honestly.

Ok so here's the deal. Monitors are all about context. If you're coming from a 17" CRT then even a basic little 24" 1080p LCD will blow you away. I've slowly climbed the ladder going through this exact path, and am currently gaming on a 34" 1440p 100hz MSI curved jobbie which cost a pretty penny (£350, still fuck all in monitor terms tbh) but I absolutely love it. I've always said that no matter what you game on, no matter whether it's PC, console, or even a fucking calculator - you're always staring at your monitor, so get something good. Nothing more disappointing than seeing someone spend £1k+ on a fancy PC with a graphics card putting out a bajillion FPS on a monitor that looks like it belongs in a 90s post office. When it comes to gaming, the things you actually interact with are where you need to spend the most money. Controllers, keyboards, mice, monitor, headset, etc. These are the things you're in direct contact with every moment of every gaming session so make sure it's exactly what you want, and that you're happy with it. @phil bottle has pretty much reached the pinnacle of affordable stuff with his ROG monitor, going another step up from that is - and this is no exaggeration - an increase of about ten fold. Monitors are second only to GPUs when it comes to diminishing returns. The more you pay, the smaller the bells and whistles get. 4k is a waste of money. I've been in this game long enough to be able to tell you that 4k gaming on the ps5 won't be 4k. It'll be pre-rendered cut-scenes and any gameplay will either be massively reduced in quality, or it'll run at 5fps. It'll very likely chop down to 1080p, or 1440p if you're lucky. To reliably game in 4k on a PC, you're looking at double, or even triple the price of a PS5 for the graphics cards alone. And that's on the lower end of the scale. To get good FPS, you're looking at a pair of 2080 supers, which will cost you £1500, and then you need the rest of the hardware to feed them with enough juice and enough pixels to render. A good 4k gaming PC is easily north of £3k, and that's without monitor or peripherals. No console is coming close to that for a long, long time. For refresh rates, 1ms is wasted on consoles. Unless you intend to go all competitive and use a keyboard and mouse, that 1ms will be cancelled out by using a controller anyway. To benefit from such short refresh rates, you really want a PC with keyboard and mouse. That all being said... I have a 32" 1440p monitor at home, it's a bit of a beast, it's by no stretch of the imagination a high-end monitor but it's still fantastic, @Plumbers Crack games on exactly the same one, maybe he'll pop in and give us his thoughts. In fact, it's this exact model. If you want it, it's yours for the price of postage and a few beer tokens in the FGFGFGFGFGFGFG to help @GazzaGarratt Dad with the site maintenance costs. Let me know. @GazzaGarratt that's no longer my place, I've started camping on top of a shop which has zombie bears in it. Alex likes to come play with the bears now and then who then promptly give him the shredder treatment and he's usually got some nice goodies in his backpack so it's great. I'm a bit like that bloke with candy in a van except I'm a bloke hiding on the top of a shop with bears. I'm still hopelessly lost on what I'm meant to be doing, the crafting is good and all but I lack the arsed to apply myself to do the more complicated stuff so I pick up these superawesomemegacool recipes, learn them, look at the pretty pictures, then go kill more zombies with a club. I guess being chronically knackered all the time at the moment doesn't help this but whatevs. I'm just enjoying the survival aspect at the moment and learning the quickest ways to dispatch zeds. @tronic44 Rachel and I had a moment last night, all romantic by the fireplace whilst waiting out horde night. On a bridge. Above a massive hungry bear. We drank water, ate charred meat, we may have even sung a little ditty to the bear, I can't remember as I was constantly mesmerized by Rachel's stopsign on his back beautiful eyes. @Shucker Start off by following the basic steps which will appear in the top right of your screen when you first spawn in. The first one will be to create a bedroll, to do this you need 10x plant fibers, so just smash a load of plants to bits and you'll pick them up. Then press TAB to open your inventory, in the search bar on the left hand side, type in "bedroll" and then click on craft/create/make/whatever it says on the right hand side of the screen. Once it's crafted, open your inventory again and drag the bedroll to your hotbar at the bottom of the screen. Using your mouse wheel will scroll between all the items on your hotbar, left click will rotate the item in your hands, and right click will place it. Find a nice house / building / whatever to use as the start of a base and get as high up as possible. You effectively want to reduce the access to you by zombies, I found that a nice high building with only one staircase reaching the top was perfect, I then destroyed the staircase so nothing could climb up it and I use wooden frames to access it. Tbh your best bet is to hop on when we're on, the guys are very helpful as always, just stay away from @GazzaGarratt Leigh The Destroyer. Oh and Rachel collects chairs, it's considered very rude on our server to not bring him a chair when you meet up with him. Don't be that guy.
