Starfield

Why I won't buy an Xbox. Had a 360, used it like 5 times, gave it to friends kid. The PC side will always be better from the MS/Xbox side of things. We will stick to PS/PC I think. And @phil bottle I'm definitely not opposed to buying it on Steam but it's cool to play day one for "free" since I forgot I had game pass in the first place lol.3 points -

I have gamepass but I might just be sad enough to buy it on Steam. Will certainly need a Steam version for modding, although I'll play it vanilla first. Still expecting hilarious bugs upon release. My favourite in New Vegas was being shot by raiders 40 foot in the air apparently immune to gravity 😅3 points -

Just seen that Starfield wasn't actually playable at Gamescom. A lot of very scripted marketing chat but not a single scrap of independent gameplay shown. Bit of a shame really - I don't think it's a case of the game not being as good as portrayed like how No Mans Sky and Cyberpunk were hidden until the 11th hour but it would've been nice to see them put their money where they mouth was and showcase some of the features they've been talking about. A few of the usual suspects that said Cyberpunk was a bugless, flawless masterpiece are armed with review copies so I'd take what they say pre-release with a pinch of salt in light of this.2 points -

I have it pre-installed on game pass for PC. Nice I don't have to buy a Xbox for it. Especially since it's single player. I'm excited for it. But then again, I got platinum on NMS at launch so there's that. Space is always a win for me.2 points -

They've released a playable demo at Gamescon, 15 minutes worth. If it's delayed again, not a problem for me to be honest, it looks pretty decent. In just 15 minutes, the first playable Stalker 2 demo gave me all the harrowing, post apocalyptic misery I could want | PC Gamer WWW.PCGAMER.COM Life's tough in the zone.1 point -

Delayed once again until Q1 2024. Understandable but this will amount to a 13 month delay at the very least. They should probably pull the plug on release dates until it's set in stone.1 point -

Simple - $, or probably more accurately, $$$$$$$$$ Sony have previously paid for special access or content to come to PS before Xbox. So it could be that contract, which may have been signed before MS bought Activision, is still in effect. Or potentially MS don't care about PS having content first - the console war really happens in the early years of a generation so by now it's relatively settled not to mention consoles are, or were for a long time, sold at a loss with money being in the games. MS gets the billions a year from the game either way so don't care too much about shifting less consoles.1 point

Gorgeously gross. I think as much as the review is hoping for more enemy types, sometimes a simplistic all out cluster warfest game with basic actions that are satisfying is all you need. Another one to add onto the wishlist.1 point -

S is definitely holding developers back significantly with high-end technologies such as Unreal Engine 5 especially with Phil Spencer promising that every game on their current iteration would run at 60fps guaranteed - something Starfield wont. Devs are having to make a secondary version of their games with key optimisation features omitted and this takes and wastes time especially for a small and rather needless market. Microsoft also don't accept publishers skipping the S so they are forced to produce scaled-down versions for a far smaller market. Unreal 4/old gen games will remain for the next 3 years because Microsoft are holding games back and developers will also have to sit on the likes of UE4 a while longer rather than utilise UE5 as well as removing current gen tech such as ray tracing and dynamic upscaling. It's different with Starfield as it's an in-house game some time really doesn't matter about time and the Creation Engine is so old, it's still capable of making really expansive offline experiences. It's still possible that the S version of Starfield is another PS4 Cyberpunk and we've yet to see any gameplay from this version. It should run fine though. I wish Microsoft would stop releasing weaker consoles by intent to double-dip the market and increase unit sales though. The less powerful counterparts like the S have attractive price-points i.e £250 but after a couple of years, people will end up having to spend full price on the big brother console or run the risk of their games eventually not being supported or being stripped bare of features as well as performance woes. It just costs people more in the long run and even with this tactic, MS still struggle to sell units anywhere near Sony and Nintentdo.1 point -

MW3 Gameplay
GazzaGarratt reacted to J4MES OX4D for a topic
I hope this campaign isn't rushed but it'll be interesting to see what Sledgehammer do with it. I didn't really enjoy MW2's in the end - there were varied missions but not much variety within especially where you were in an AC130 for 20 minutes or roof hopping vehicles for the same amount of time. It took several missions before we finally got a proper boots on the ground gun mission! The sniper mission also missed the mark which was quite disappointing. Wasn't much innovation and most missions became exhausting with the same old premise from start to finish in each. Graphics were excellent though and there were a few neat ideas that came off despite a few wobbles.1 point -
Thanks Greboth, I'll mix it up as I go along - just see what works - started in HC with a marksman rifle which seems to be going along ok - I guess there's probably a lot of core people going HC for long shots which might dilute the hardcore hardcore !1 point

I set this to pre-install yesterday on my Series S, I am quite excited for this game (Though keeping my optimism in check knowing some of the recent disappointments within the gaming industry). I am unsure about whether I will play it through on there or the ROG yet. Something I did think about, with how ambitious this game is and it still being released on the Series S, I know a lot of other devs are complaining about the lack of power in the S but it seems more to me that they would have to spend time making it work on there as well as the X which would presumably eat into profits? So it's easier to complain at this point?1 point -

After playing Oblivion for hours on end and not finishing it as I got a little bored of all the detail, and that it was single player you can probably see why I didn't go near Skyrim! That game happened in my 7 year cebatical of games, and depressingly I found this place 😅 Maybe one day Skyrim....but for now I'll have to play Starfield with FG fwends! 😍1 point -

Are they going for their own version of No Mans Sky or is it more closer to Star Citizen? I'm trying to understand the angle of what the game objective is and what we're expected to do in the game. Some bits look amazing, i'm not sure their gunplay will feel the best out there from what i've seen. Would love to know what others think that have followed this for a while.1 point -

Will wait and see, I'm still pretty optimistic it's going to be Fallout in Space, only better. I hope that if it's buggy they have the sense to delay it. Plus on PC I'll be getting slightly better than 30 frames, maybe 31 😉1 point -

Another massive humiliation for Xbox and Phil Spencer. Starfield will be 30 fps on consoles | PC Gamer WWW.PCGAMER.COM Todd Howard confirmed that the Xbox Series X/S versions of Starfield will fly in the slow lane. After giving it large about how every game will run at at least 60fps on Xbox, this is pretty embarrassing especially after Redfall and Spencer's very defeatist admissions after. What was the bloody point of Microsoft buying Bethesda if they aren't going to assist, provide tech or keep their eye on the ball? Kinda proves that the deal was only to shut out Sony and provide some game pass fodder. There's been absolutely no benefit whatsoever to this deal and Bethesda are probably in a worse place than ever in their history. From what I read about Redfall, Microsoft only bothered picking up the game at the 11th hour for a marketing shift for the game pass and from what Spencer also said, it looks like they have no idea about Starfield either. They really need to get their house in order and fast. I hope the game is still half decent but it's almost turning into another Fallout 76 calamity.1 point -

Couldn't care less about how many units they sell or any of that bollocks. I'll finally be picking up Baldurs Gate 3 and I think I'm capable of playing both games, even if if they released same day. I do that with books, I do that with games. I've come around in my head to start expecting Starfield to be a great game and I'm looking forward to release, whenever that might be. I saw certain people responsible for Elders Scrolls: Oblivion were working on it, and I just decided it's gonna be cool 😁1 point -

Starfield delayed for a third time Starfield Delayed Again, Launches in September - IGN WWW.IGN.COM Bethesda has delayed Starfield once again, as the game will now launch in September for PC and Xbox Series X and S. There will also be a Starfield Direct on June 11, right after the Xbox Games Showcase. Not a huge delay and likely a tactical move but with Bethesda's track record, it wouldn't surprise me if we see this run into March 2024. Currently 10 months off their original and 'guaranteed' target. I expect 32x the detail now😎1 point -

We've known that since last summer, one of the few things we actually do know about this game. I'm not getting hyped for it and if it turns out to be a great game that would be cool, but other than a new Bethesda ip, there's little to get excited about, for me anyway. I'd rather the next Elder Scrolls to be honest 🙂 If I want to spend 20 minutes flying between the ground and space I'll stick on Star Citizen 😁1 point -

Todd Howard: ''fly anywhere do anything'' Meanwhile.... Starfield Doesn’t Let You Fly Seamlessly from Space to Planet: ‘That’s Really Just Not that Important’ - IGN WWW.IGN.COM Todd Howard has said that Starfield won't allow you to fly seamlessly from space to its 1,000 explorable planets, saying the feature is "really just not that important to the player" to justify the engineering work... That's a bit disappointing! Don't want to be greeted with loading screens as it'll kill the immersion. Definitely not easy to do technically especially if it's running on old architecture but I would've expected them to do some masking of sorts where it would feel like a landing experience even if it was the game simply loading in the back-end. Not sure how it'll be presented but if it's just a 'click to go to X planet' format then it'll really diminish the experience especially as their existing games are largely seamless in exploration.1 point
