Two things worth mentioning. There are very limited ways of earning XP, basically quests and POIs / camps. On the map page, at the bottom right you can see how many POIs you've completed on each biome so you can max them out and get all that sweet sweet xp.
The other one, and this is a big one, is to always have some building mats on you. Boars don't seem to break through walls, so when facing multiple, you can box some of them in and face one at a time. This trivialized a fight I had to do many times over.
Question - ship combat - do you always sink the other vessels, or also board them and wreck them? I've only tried boarding two vessels. One from my tiny little dinkyboat, and the other was the first ship for the quest. On both occasions I was fighting a seemingly endless supply of dudes and eventually gave up. Is there a trick to this or just keep killing them until they stop?

I would also again highly recommend wveryone to buy the keelhold hull in tortuga, I forget from which faction vendor, but it’s OP as hell as it allows you to keep repairing even if you keep getting hit

What a fuckin dumbass. I've spent the last few nights sucking at ship battles, and wondering why I couldn't upgrade anything on my Shipwright's workbench.
Turns out you have to remove the stuff from the ship and then upgrade it at the workbench.
Yanno those warnings on shampoo bottles? Yeah, me. All me.

For the ship combat, you get more stuff from boarding, I’d say it’s mostly worth boarding the haulers/transports, there is a counter in the top right of your screen during the boarding process which tells you how many enemies you/your crew has to kill. Upgrading your boarding crew helps with this a lot.
I also agree the xp gain is slow, I do wish you would get it from combat, farming and building as well but I can see how they have intentionally slowed it down to match your exploration which makes sense, it’s just annoying 😂

You can build on as many islands as you want and have multiple bases. But, you can only place down 10 fast travel points (not counting the ones that the game just unlocks for you in important locations) so just keep that in mind. In my solo world I’m keeping my original base for now, I might tear it down and move it later, I dunno. On the FG server we have starter bases set up but have moved most workbenches and resources down to the FG Cove where we (mainly Carl, La and John) are building something on a much bigger scale. (I just farm resources like a madman 😂)

Last question, I know you can go to other Islands, so does it make sense to build up on your starting one, or will I end up abandoning this one for a better one later?
I don't really view this game like Enshrouded, or Icarus, where you can get away with having one base, but it could be. IDK
Boars, Drowned, and Dodo's are still kicking my ass, but I can whip the shit out of crabs

Can confirm, I didn't mine at all yesterday, and when i hopped in the cave just now, it was all back
-
TurboR56Mini reacted to ChaosGladiator in Windrose
Caves may not be affected by it, just seen a video where someone placed it as close to one as possible, I think other resources do get affected by it though, so check before you move it

Well crap, I need to move my bonfire.
Its right in the mouth of that copper cave I found
-
TurboR56Mini reacted to ChaosGladiator in Windrose
They do if they are outside your bonfire range. I think it takes 6 hours though

Do resources respawn? I doubt it, but I know some games have it.
I have a ton of seeds for trees and peppers, but I ran out of clay and copper in my cave.

So they just announced yesterday that the next biome, the Ashlands, will be released in anout 6 months time along with a load of new stuff. There will also be a smaller update soon, no date given, to fix some things and improve stuff as well as adding more building pieces. Here’s hoping we get triangular foundations!

That sounds awesome!
I fought a boar last night, and a dodo that attacked me. Then I ate crabs.

Couple tips for anyone starting this or considering starting this.
Never stop grinding for resources. Early game it’s not too bad but you do get a taste for how much you will actually need when you build your first ship, mid to late game it gets very, very resource heavy.
Always pick up food and potion ingredients. Better food means better bonuses, but needs more ingredients to make so grab it when you see it! Potions ingredients will also be very important as fights will only get harder and you’ll need to heal more often if you can’t master the dodging and parrying.
Upgrade your gear and your ships gear. I kept losing fights and sea battles over and over and over, upgrading my gear as high as I could for how far I had progressed definetly helped out a ton. Specially for sea battles against multiple ships. Once I upgraded the hull, cannons and my boarding crew it was like going from playing hardcore instadeath mode to playing the game normally so keep an eye on it!
Before you start exchanging your insignias and letters of favour for reputation with the different factions, make sure you check the different provisioners!! They will all offer different schematics for upgrades, building and so on and early on silver will not be easy to get until you find the different factions own holdouts where they actually buy things off you.
So don’t waste your silver early, look at the different provisioners, see what they offer at what reputation level and then decide wich factions to turn your insignias into. (Also note that upon switching game sessions the reputation does not carry over, but you can go back to the session where you have said reputation, buy what you need and then switch back and have what you bought still available.)

It’s a mix of utmost frustration and fun for me, still get well pissed off every time I die to something silly, but I keep coming back anyways 😂
The fact that questprogression carries over between sessions is nice, same with your gear and whatever you have on you or in your ship transfers between them too. I do wish the progress you’ve made with the different factions also carried over as that can be quite a grind to level up, but can always go back to your own world and get what you need from them and then join a buddy’s game and you’ll have it there too.
Also the fact that to get a crafting recipe for armor or weapons, if someone else has the item you can borrow it for 2 seconds and you’ll unlock it as a craftable is nice, on that note, if anyone gets the rapier of a thousand cuts, let me know. I need that little bastard 😂 And if anyone needs pieces from the filibuster (I have almost the full set), conquistador or privateer let me know. Think I have some odd pieces of others too as well as the cutlass and two different clubs that I can’t remember the name of

So I’m 65 hours into this now. Just unlocked the 3rd biome and I’m working on getting the big bad mother Frigatte. Been grinding silly amounts of resources for that and also for the FG cove that’s in the works.
Helped @RenFengge @Tar-Eruntalion and @TurboR56Mini beat the first boss so they could unlocked the 2nd biome, the brig and more crafting starions and recipies.
We also finally found the rapier of a thousand cuts 😅 Instantly ascended it and fully upgraded it as the bleed effect is so damn nice to have.

Should be done by tomorrow morning. I have like another 50$ in my steam wallet if there is something else I should get
