Not actually game footage but interesting nonetheless

  2. NVMe drives have an optimal operating temperature that is much higher than a regular HDD. So if they get too cold they actually become less efficient. So you will want them to run around 40+ degrees celsius. However they will also begin to thermally throttle when they get too hot, which is around 90-105 degrees Celsius depending on the brand. So unless you are doing crazy amounts of non stop writing to the drives (like 30 mins+) you are unlikely to see any performance throttling. Given that what is on the drive is the game information you are going to be reading all the time. That's why an SDD is also great for a PC operating system and SW because after you install you mostly read. Solid state drives are also made of FLASH memory. Flash memory has a limited number of writes for its lifetime so that last thing is you want to do is write to it a lot which would cause the throttling. PCIe Gen4 NVMe is a different story as these seem to run a lot hotter, so that is why you will see them coming with giant heatsinks pre-installed on Gen4 drives. I never checked the interface for the PS5 I would check what sony has to say

  3. I just use gigabit internet to redownload games as and when. 😎

  4. To go back to the original post, I have a 500gb drive in my PS5 with a heatsink and I would tend to be over cautious and get a heatsink than not get one and face issues down the road. As for size, I have found the 500gb to be plenty in addition to the internal and I do have some biggish games on there like COD, Hogwarts, Fallout 76 and fifa and such. If I had spare cash yeah maybe I would go bigger but I don't find I play more than 3 or 4 different games in a week because I just don't have the time too anyway.

  5. Sony recommend going with a heatsink so I'd get one just in case (I got one for my SSD that I put in). They don't cost that much and I'd rather spend an extra £10-20 than end up knackering a £200-300 SSD. You also need to check you're buying a heatsink that will fit in the slot for the SSD. I also don't think 2TB is needed: I put a 1TB in mine and haven't got close to filling that or the internal drive. Unless you're one of these people that keeps every single game on your PS5 even if you haven't played them for 2 years. Are you one of these people @GazzaGarratt 🤨

  6. Yeah you gain levels by upgrading cards and that’s how you unlock more cards. It’s a fantastic game

  8. They tend to be so badly compressed. Something to bare in mind though, more often than not games that have ps4 and ps5 releases, it is the ps5 version that tends to take up less storage. From a couple of years ago but just found this online - But yeah the issues is developers being lazy I think more often than not resulting in large game sizes (in some instances it's about money, suspicion is that COD already has a shit tonne of assets in the game and they flick a button and all of a sudden we can buy them), I mean Call of duty is always over 200gb yet they can put games like Cyberpunk in 150gb and Hogwarts in 80gb.

  9. Maybe...😅 I have a 4TB External because if you want me to play Rainbow 6 or some other random game on the fly, I need the space and it virtually ready! I think the issue is PS5 games of late are super big right now so it helps having a larger one because the next AAA games that are 200GB are just around the corner....

  10. It’s more complicated than that though as you can overheat an NVMe and it will throttle performance to cool itself down. They don’t draw much power but the heat is focused to controller and memory. Constant and large read write operations will overheat a drive without a cooler. Gaming isn’t quite that intensive but the drive will certainly get warm - though warm is actually a good thing. It’s also further muddied that gen3 drives aren’t too bad but gen4 drives get significantly hotter. If memory serves the PS5 is gen4 so I’d say get a cooler. I don’t know how well the PS5 cools the nvme but the degradation and performance loss is considerably worse if they get too hot than a little cooler.

@cyberninja2601 saw this video the other day, I didn't realise that the camera also suffered with this bug, I knew that ammo and armor boxes did.

  14. Whats everyone's thoughts to Heatsink or standard? People are saying it seems to not make much diffeence but interested if anyone has already got additional SSD storage as these games are getting bigger and bigger by the day! I think i'll have to save to get a 2TB one because I fear 1TB will just fill up really quickly with most of the latest games nearing 100GB or way more in some instances. Cheers!

Thinking of getting the dlc for pc. Bit annoyed that it isn't cross purchase. I love the pick up and play aspect of PlayStation, but pc is better for serious accuracy when you really need to make a sniper shot for example. Only draw back is the convoluted way of need to integrate PlayStation chat.

  16. DMZ Has given me so many memorable epic gamer moments in the 6 weeks that I have been playing it. Let’s here your stories too. As someone here said previously in DMZ the journey is often more important than the extraction or the reward. I’ll start with my first special moment which was extracting the M13B, I had been trying for a little while to extract the m13b I had downed the Chemist a couple of times but had never managed to get away with the gun. It was Christmas Eve and I was planning on having one more go! I’ve copied the story from the other thread so you may have heard this one before though it would be nice to have a single space for DMZ stories I did a setup run extracted a self revive, medium backpack, durable gas mask, and 2 plate vest, I then spawned in with the MCPR-300 (Body Count Blueprint with the 5 round mag removed (for a 10 mag) and a Kastov 74u then went straight for the Radiation Zone, got a message right away saying the chemist was in the area, sometimes I've had to run around the outside of the area to get that message. then took the high ground and was able to take some enemies out one by one, then I ventured into the gas and started collecting gas masks, plates and stims, it took around 20 minutes but I didn't really get any large clusters of enemies like I have on previous attempts so I was able to take them down successfully. I found the chemist a couple of times, got a headshot on the first and destroyed his helmet, finally I found him close by a building looking in the opposite direction and was able to finish him off with the 74u, there wasn't really any other enemies nearby so I grabbed the m13b and legged it to my vehicle, found a sensible extraction a little while away the radiation was about to start expanding and I didn't want to take any chances. I did get downed at the extraction but was fortunate to still have the self revive.

Discord will be in Playstation soon so I hope at that point it will open up crossplay way more than it does today @crispymorgan. However, I'll always get it for my playstation as thats where i've got all my previous DLC for D2.

  20. In order to play Siegeypoos on the PS5 you'd need to download the PS5 version and then that can only be run from an internal drive 😝
    1 point
  21. They're not that expensive are they? Admittedly a very quick google but they seem to be only £10-£20 more.
    1 point
  22. This is what my 2 SSD's are like. The PS5 uses better compression for storage than the PS4 so games don't use as much space.
    1 point
  23. Its because when you have no space left for a PS5 game, you can transfer one of your PS5 games to your external HD for 'storage'. If you want to play it again, you then need to transfer it back to the PS5 internal SSD - effectively saving a redownload that would take longer. It still takes time to transfer it from one storage to another which is the PITA if you play a number of games or need a few games ready on demand when people are around to play it. With 3 games over 100GB your space is pretty much taken on the internal SSD which is frustrating to say the least. Thanks Pat, most feedback on reviews say the heatsink doesn't matter too much but clearly parting with a lot of money made me ask the question here. Cheers @Greboth, I suppose the question is it worth an extra £50 just for a heatsink as that what I was trying to weigh up. Can I add one afterwards if I wanted to?

  24. Really? It asks me where I want to save, internal or external.. guess I have to check down the line if/when it becomes an issue 🙂
    1 point
  25. Ah yes but thats an external Hard Drive so it won't play PS5 games directly from it. There's space for another SSD to slot so you can play PS5 games straight away.

  26. I have a 2tb external HD, works like a charm.

  27. A solid state HD should consume very little power, therefore a Heatsink is just a money grab that seems unnecessary to me.

This game came out a month ago on Steam and has earned a 99% overwhelmingly positive score across over 7,000 reviews and is regarded by critics as one of the best modern platformers ever created. Costs about £16-$20 and has been in development since around 2018. Feels like it's gone under the radar a bit but is gradually blowing up in popularity now after a few big releases have passed. I'm very tempted to pick this up soon

  36. Its the one mobile game I've been looking at outside of Clash of Clans. I don't try and touch my mobile much as I use things like WhatsApp Web and spend most of day now in front of my PC. I'll take a look into it though as it reminds me when we as a family got heavily into a Transformers card game for Dax and that was immense, especially trying to get all the characters. Is there a feeling with this one that you have to find all the different characters over time?

  37. I played it heavy for the first two weeks of their launch, but now play maybe one game every couple of weeks or if I am out somewhere board. It's a simple, nice card game.

  38. Just completed the Tier 4 Black Mous Challenge for Breaking and Entering on the first attempt this evening! After yesterdays failed attempt which I mentioned in my PPR I did a quick Zero to Hero run, I found a large backpack and a two plate by random looting. I also completed a couple of Nuclear Radiation Missions and decided to go buy a Self Res and 3 Plate then was planning to extract, I used the Buy station in Rohan oil for these items, got a few plates as standard this buy also had an Al Bagra Underground key, Great it would be nice to have another spare and as luck would have it a Supply Drop fell right at that moment about 100m from me so I captured that one, plenty of cash in this one, Gold Bars, a Gold Skull, so I looted all of that and purchased the key, was a fairly uneventful Exfil between Al Mazrah City and Mawizeh Marshlands. Insured gun still had another 40 minutes, so decided to call it a night. Then this evening, I setup my loadout. A Custom Sakin MG38 in my insured slot, an M4 Contraband (The silenced one with the Green Laser from the T3 Guards) and an SP-X Sniper also Contraband. I spawned into the DMZ, spawn under the train bridge I ran from here to the nearby hospital 3 Self Revives a spare Munitions Box and about 4k worth of loot I then made my way to the Airport Buy Station which had no nearby AI so I was able to use it easily and filled the rest of my backpack with Plates and then headed for Al Bagra Underground the exfil was also just outside the Sewer. As I got lost in the Sewer yesterday when trying to leave I had prepared by watching a few videos and drawing out a map with the layout. I took out the AI and progressed around the sewer switching on the devices as I passed them. As I was doing this I could here gunfire GREAT there is a squad in the fortress above me, hopefully they are busy with their own activities and not interested in ruining mine! I proceeded to collect the System Architecture Documentation do a little looting and leave the underground. made my way to the beach for the exfil called it in and made distance away from the exfil point as I know some T3 AI will make there way to the exfil point. Nearby Player starts pleading for help, excellent the other squad are preoccupied. As the chopped is coming in took out the AI with the Sniper and made my way to exfil for a completed mission! Please to say that everything fell into place. Great spawn, great RNG on the Self Res and also on the Buy Station. Also thinking about it I didn't come across a single riot shield AI during the whole mission whereas yesterday there was 4-5 of them.

  39. Needed to do a squad hunt contract for the black mous missions. I usually don't like to kill other operators if I don't have to but in this case I had to. I got the perfect spawn at the airport. I picked up the contract. My team mates were idiot running around getting themselves killed. I revived one of them 5 times. I finally just left them as they were a liability rather than asset. I get the mini helicopter that is at airport and start flying in the direction of the squad. They must have panic because they are all over the place according to the map. I am low on full so I go gas station to refuel the helo. As that is happening, I get a notice that the squad got downed elsewhere and my payment is authorized. Awesome, mission done and contract done. I look for a safe extraction point. Fly over and extract. Extraction streak goes up to 5. Sometimes the stars just align for you

  40. Was in Rohan Oil and another team showed up and decided to be friendly. We became a team of 6 and went into the restricted area. Made easy work of the AI and got some good valuable loot Had lots of cash on us so we became targeted in the hunt squad contracts. 3 guys show up trying to kill us for the contract. Had no Idea there were 6 of us. We wiped them. Took their stuff. Decided to exfil. Got a couple of LTVs from different buy stations and machine gunning anything in sight. Again Hunt squad. Trio shows up. Gets wipe and kids start screaming about 6 vs 3 how did we do that. That isn't fair. Total rage. So I went over, stole his stuff. tea bag him and told him that attacking 2 LTVs with machine guns and 6 guys is a real dumb thing to do if you want to live. Exfil is now too far, we see a rescue hostage contract so we decide to do that. Storm the house as a team of 6 with top end gear a that point. Rescue the hostage exfil. Super fun when teams team up. 2nd place. the other team a dumbass team mate decide to run off. Gets himself killed by a squad. He had no mike so I have no idea. I run over to revive him. I see the trio is standing over him in a corner looting his stuff. I lob two molotovs their way and they get burned to a crisp. So we took their stuff and left. I love wiping squads that attack unprovoked
