It should be a legal requirement IMO that a candidate gets informed when they've be unsuccessful and why. Cannot stand ignorant companies like that especially when people go through such a tough process only to get ignored. Just keep going Dan - the average person these days has to apply for 65 jobs or something ridiculous and it can be demoralising as hell but the right opportunity will come round eventually. I've known plenty of University students who came away with flashy degrees and they struggle to get something appropriate for years. You're definitely not alone.2 points -
Minecraft player loses five-year-long game
J4MES OX4D and one other reacted to Plumbers Crack for a topic
Minecraft player loses five-year-long game A man who has been playing a single continuous game of Minecraft for the past five years says he is devastated to have been finally "killed". Phil Watson, 31, of Newcastle, had been playing in the most difficult Hardcore mode, which means his character cannot be brought back to life. Having walked 6,316km, flown 7,798km and jumped 732,389 times, he had got "a bit full of myself" and been startled by a zombie baby and eaten by a spider. He says the five-year game is a record. "It was never about being the best or the longest, I just liked playing it and managed to survive," he told BBC News. "I started saying I was the world's longest Hardcore survivor because I couldn't find anyone else. "We couldn't find anyone who had lasted more than a couple of months." Mr Watson plays Minecraft most days, averaging about 20 hours a week. For those familiar with Minecraft, Mr Watson's character was attacked by a zombie baby wearing enchanted armour. He ran away from it and was shot in the back by a hidden skeleton, which knocked him into the spider. He could have survived all of this if he had eaten a health-giving golden apple sooner, he said. "I ran out of luck," Mr Watson said. "There's so much I could have done, I felt stupid making such an easy mistake." Mr Watson has more than 3,500 followers on YouTube and nearly 2,000 on game-streaming platform Twitch, where he is known as Philza and met his fiancee, Kristin Rosales. And he is already is thinking about returning to Minecraft. "When it first happened I was so depressed I thought I didn't even want to look at Minecraft right now, I didn't ever want to see a zombie again," he said. "But I'm starting to get that urge to create something and go on another journey." Source: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-480918432 points -

Never, EVER, give up Dan. Sometimes we all need to take a minute or 5 minutes to really appreciate what we've done. Too many people live in the future and can easily forget how well they've done and how much they have changed for the better. This thread perfectly shows how much of a strong minded and willing individual you are. We all get setbacks, life isn't perfect (but then it would be boring wouldn't it ). The point is, you have to got up off your arse and you are not willing to accept your current career path. Many couldn't even make that call, let alone update your CV, apply for some new jobs, research into your new personal career path and get interviews and assessments. You are only one interview away from the person on the other side of the desk seeing your mentality and potential and giving you a chance. And you'll take it i'm sure. Make sure you keep reviewing your CV ahead of going for each job. Make sure you tweak specific words that are in the job profile you are going for and link them into key sections in your CV so you can show on paper you are naturally designed for that role. Keep. Going. You've got this far when millions haven't got past the first hurdle. You're farther ahead than you realise.2 points -

Final day for League 1 is going to be mental on both ends of the table. If Portsmouth win their game in hand against Peterborough, it'll be a 3 way battle for the title and automatic promotion. Luton are blowing it badly after their 28 game unbeaten run ended and may even drop into the playoffs. We are playing them away last day and are unbeaten in 9 and top of the form charts right now so Luton be shitting it hopefully! Any 5 teams can still go down too and Plymouth face Scunthorpe in a relegation decider where they can send the other down or both get relegated themselves. The playoffs are tasty too as if it stays the same, Pompey, Sunderland and Charlton will be in it which a decade ago they were a Premier League trio. Doncaster should nail the final place and will be major underdogs. Definitely the most dramatic end to a League One campaign ever # Team Pl W D L F A GD Pts 1 Luton Town 45 26 13 6 87 41 46 91 2 Barnsley 45 26 13 6 79 37 42 91 3 Portsmouth 44 25 12 7 80 47 33 87 4 Sunderland 44 22 19 3 78 43 35 85 5 Charlton Athletic 45 25 10 10 69 40 29 85 6 Doncaster Rovers 45 19 13 13 74 58 16 70 7 Peterborough United 44 18 12 14 65 59 6 66 8 Coventry City 44 18 10 16 53 51 2 64 9 Burton Albion 45 17 12 16 65 54 11 63 10 Blackpool 45 15 17 13 50 49 1 62 11 Oxford United 45 15 15 15 57 61 -4 60 12 Fleetwood Town 44 15 13 16 56 50 6 58 13 Accrington Stanley 45 14 12 19 50 66 -16 54 14 Rochdale 45 15 9 21 54 83 -29 54 15 Gillingham 45 14 10 21 58 72 -14 52 16 Bristol Rovers 45 12 15 18 45 49 -4 51 17 Shrewsbury Town 44 12 14 18 50 58 -8 50 18 Wycombe Wanderers 45 13 11 21 54 67 -13 50 19 AFC Wimbledon 45 13 10 22 42 63 -21 49 20 Southend United 45 13 8 24 53 67 -14 47 21 Plymouth Argyle 45 12 11 22 53 78 -25 47 22 Walsall 45 12 10 23 49 71 -22 46 23 Scunthorpe United 45 12 10 23 51 80 -29 46 24 Bradford City 45 11 7 27 49 77 -28 402 points -

Anyone play this? It's a fantastic 3D platformer that's about as mechanically close to Mario as you can get. It has some brilliant humour and is really enjoyable to play, plus it's suitable for all ages. It's available on PC, PS4, Xbox One and the Switch. The PC version also has co-op, upcoming online play plus full mod support. It's also currently 50% off in the sale https://store.steampowered.com/app/253230/A_Hat_in_Time/ on Steam and I'm sure it will also be discounted soon on other platforms as it has been out for a while now. At 98% positive and over 10k reviews, it's also one of the highest rated games on the entire Steam platform. Highly recommended!1 point -

Borderlands 3
J4MES OX4D reacted to GazzaGarratt for a topic
I've watched a tiny bit of gameplay today and I must admit it looks like they've done a great job. Initial feedback i'm hearing is the shooting has been done right this time whereas on previous Borderlands games they were a bit clunky. I only played a bit of BL2 so I can't really comment myself on that. This could land really REALLY well in September against not much competition either.1 point -

Really nice to see a game like this do well but in reality I just won't buy it unless the multiplayer side of things was a whole lotta fun with people here. Looking at some of the videos it's very bright and colourful and i'm a big fan of the sound and voiceover for the story. The sale is on until 9th May so for only just over a tenner i'm beginning to change my mind whilst writing this.1 point -

I recommend if its just going to be me and one other person that you learn the jumping puzzle prior to asking me for help. Im sure two of us can beat it without problems if you can get through the jumping puzzle. Just hit me up and we will do it.1 point -

It's crazy to think they could finish on 97 points and not win the league. Last night was an absolute disaster on all fronts - the result and failure to at least salvage an away goal means the 2nd leg will be nigh-impossible to turn around. All they can do is try and win the Prem but it's out of their hands.1 point -

I was so excited to see the trailer. The ring sounds! Awesome. And then I saw Sonic. Ugh. Very disappointing to see how badly they messed his looks up. Hopefully they can sort it and render the new character into the film without too much work.1 point -

Well, Liverpool a few months back could've won 3 to 4 trophies. After last night's 3-0 drubbing against Barcelona, they could end up with absolutely nothing. I don't think they'll be many football fans sending their support to them.1 point -

Plumbers Crack reacted to Dan94 for a topic
Thanks Leigh - appreciate that buddy. I think the most frustrating thing is getting no feedback. The last 2 interviews I went for and wasn't successful I asked for feedback regarding application/interview and didn't receive a response. At least then I'd know what I can improve on. I do wonder if my age has something to do with it. They know after the first year of the apprenticeship, they'd have to then start paying me the living wage in the 2nd year. That's the only thing I can think of. I come across well in the interviews (imo), have good customer service experience which I display and explain about being the 'IT help guy' in my current department despite not actually working in IT. There's just not many IT apprenticeships out there so when one does come up, I know I have to put everything into the application and interview. Don't want to sound like a moaner, but just doesn't seem fair (I know, life's not fair...). Coupled with the fact that my current job is getting shitter (department cut from 12 people down to 5, same workload and a manager who is clueless/lazy) doesn't help the situation. I guess I feel a little like time isn't on my side either, currently saving for a house so now is the ideal time to take a pay cut, because once I get a house and a mortgage, I literally won't be able to afford to take the apprenticeship pay cut from what I'm on now. I know I just have to keep trying, but it's just getting me down every now and then.1 point -

@DiddumsDude if you want some throwback games to play again - go to https://playclassic.games The DOS library is fantastic. I saw your post and went on a DOS game hunt and found this place yesterday. You can save/restore games all in the cloud without a login or anything. I played a game yesterday, and then went back today and my saved file was still there. Not sure how that works. So I had an interview 2 weeks ago now, again, went really well, was for an IT Support Engineer role, basically supporting the IT Manager as they couldn't handle being a one man band anymore on their own. Would be 1 day at college every 2 weeks, £600 a month for a year then up to minimum wage after that and then better money. Girlfriend really supportive and saying if its what I want to do and make me happy, then we can wait a little longer before getting a house (we're currently saving a lot each month in our current jobs). Was meant to hear either way by the end of last week, so by Thursday. Didn't hear anything, so thought maybe because its the Easter Weekend they may be really busy etc... so left it until yesterday, still nothing by lunchtime, so decided to email them asking if they had any update regarding the position following my interview. Still haven't heard anything... problem is I'm one of these guys who always looks at the good in people and keep thinking maybe they're just busy etc but part of me thinks maybe they've just found someone else more suitable and not letting people know. Not really sure where this is going, just felt like I needed to rant1 point
