PS5 Accessories

So just a thread really about a few of the controllers I have and to provide some general conversation around the various PS5 accessories, do you have any and do they get frequent use?

So I have had a couple of different PS5 controllers now, a second hand Dualsense Edge controller and yesterday an impulse purchase of the Nacon Revolution Pro 5 which has prompted this post.

The Edge is a definite improvement over the original controller, it feel's nicer to hold, the rubber grip and just feels better made, a more premium feel if you like. I don't however use the back buttons much really but it is just a nicer controller to use.

However we popped into game yesterday and picked up 2 items from their clearance area, the first being a christmas present from the wife that she has now put away (another thread to come) and the Nacon Revolution pro 5. I have been after a new controller as the rubber grip is coming away from the controller which is irritating me and I don't know why but stuff like that grinds my gears unnecassarily (so tips to repair it would be appreciated!) I saw this controller and it was half price so £100 as opposed to £200 and I thought it was worth a shot at that price. Turns out this controller is brilliant!

I opened the box and the first, strange thing to happen was upon opening it, there have obviously been lengths taken to make the box opening a little different. It was perfumed in some way and opening it, it actually smelt nice which was a bit odd. The controller itself is great, it feels really great in the hands and there are a number of weights that you can swap in if you want a heavier or lighter feel to the default. The controller comes in a pretty strong case with a USB-C cable, USB dongle, several weights, 2 additional thumbsticks (one higher and one a different style), and an alternative D pad button.

The controller itself has quite a number of back buttons (more so than the edge), it has the xbox layout with the thumbsticks which I have always found a little more comfortable and the default thumb sticks are reminiscent of the PS2 controllers which is quite nice. Oh and it also has what is known as hall effect thumbsticks which are meant to somewhat eliminate stick drift which is common today with modern controllers.

The other thing is how responsive this is, it really feels instant when gaming, like moreso than the 1st party controllers which is strange. It may just be in my head but it really does feel more responsive.

So yeah if you are looking for a new controller and can afford it I would recommend this one from my limited experience so far 🙂

I only have the controllers and headset that I bought at launch with the PS5!

I’ve been looking recently at purchasing a ‘pro’ controller, however I’m not willing to spend hundreds so I’m looking for a budget one.

I’ve been looking at the 8bitdo Ultimate controller, it’s only £55 and appears to have the Hall effect sticks, back buttons etc. However it seems to only be for Xbox so I’d be stuck with the standard controller for PS5!

So long story short is no I haven’t got any PS5 accessories but would love some recommendations for cheap pro controllers 🤣

I just use the bog standard pad, but I put kontrol freaks on the thumbsticks.

They are cheap, but been using them for a few years.

I buy more once the rubber is worn.

They just feel nicer, at a higher angle and it means I don't wear the normal thumbsticks at all on the pad.

I'm on my third or fourth official controller, they keep suffering stick drift. The last one I bought, I stuck a lifetime warranty thing on it so if / when it fails again, Currys will pick up the tab.

It's a curse of Cod, thee old tactical sprint.

I used to go through more PS4 pads.

Eventually it will do the thing.

Smart move with the warranty.

It's always that left stick pah.

What sensitivity do you play on?

Also what's your deadzone set at bro?

Less mashy mashy run into that fucking building away from the Grenade!

Just saying it might help, if you bump the sens up your aim will be dogshit for a while.

Also a lower deadzone.

If you have the elite or whatever it's called you can just swap out the sticks😉

I know😂

I had stick drift on two controllers, brought them to my local shop and I got a new one each time. Sony picked up the tab.

I just stick with the official pad received with the console. Some of these 'pro/elite' iterations which cost 2-3x the price of the already expensive standard ones actually have vastly inferior build quality too. The current DS5 is also probably the poorest official standard one to date. Not sure about the existing XBSX one but the previous standard Xbox Controllers have been remarkably reliable although the Elites have been iffy at best.

There are some decent third party feature-laden pads but those cost about half the price of the consoles themselves. Most of that is down to the hefty licencing fees but peripherals tend to be an absolute goldmine.

I still use an Xbox One pad on PC which I've had for 8 years now and it still functions flawlessly. The stick is so robust whereas Sony's feel far more fragile and also end up busting through minimal wear. Maybe if Sony put more effort into into that than their shitty touchpad then maybe they wouldn't have a graveyard of returns and warranties coming out of their ass.
