I havent really played many survival games but i had good fun with that (the exception being that i couldnt see in the dark!) Given me a taste now so will have to check out some others (suggestions welcome!)

I'm not sure what people's ages are on here, I missed out on the 80s (born 1990) but I have a fascination for a lot of things from that era, music, gadgets, fashion etc and it's something that I have never really implemented into my life. However I am sat here watching the first episode of stranger things and thinking how cool it would be to have some 80s themed items around my home (I'm sure my wife would kill me!) Just curious if anyone has anything round their homes that is 80s styled or perhaps even retro, old gadgets, posters etc that they would be happy to show off? I could find this thread falls flat on it's face as I'm weird but hey who knows 😄

So my current focus is gameboy related as i am a bit skint atm so looking out for cheaper games that i want in my collection (hoping for a big splurge on retro stuff when my wife returns to work in january). My last purchase was this - The gbc version is more of a traditional rpg in the mould that I quite enjoy and this cost me less than a fiver (i have just put a bid on chamber of secrets gbc on ebay as well). The games went in a different route once they hit the gba

Games you are looking forward to in the next 12-18 months
Luseth replied to Luseth's topic in Any General Discussion
I can appreciate that, the number of remasters and remakes coming through have sort of stagnated the games industry. People are buying them because there is nothing else but then developers keep making them knowing that it's an easy return and a fairly safe bet. I have a fair few games in my backlog at the moment but generally because they are so similar to what I have played recently it's difficult to muster up the enthusiasm to play them. It's another plus for retro games in that the variety is broader and much more diverse with ideas and the such. -
Playing fifa the other night and it was discussed what games are coming up over the next couple of months. The past 6 months has been somewhat quiet with a couple of exceptions so thought to raise awareness about games that are coming up it might be worth us just talking about games we are looking forward to turning up in the near future so just to begin things - Saints row - This looks like it might be a return to form with the last couple of games getting too wacky (is that a thing with saints row?) one of the noteworthy additions with this new game is that there is going to be the addition of drop in co op so you could play through the main game with a friend! Hogwarts legacy - My wife is a huge fan of the series and I enjoyed it growing up. This looks like it could be the harry potter game everyone always wanted though it has been marred over the past year with some of J.K Rowlings opinions. That won't personally stop me and I am quite excited for this. Marvels midnight suns - This is basically x-com with a marvel skin on it so far as I can tell. The recent x-com games have been brilliant so I can see this doing well. Stalker - The original games were great so with the financial backing of microsoft I can see this really doing well. A true competitor to Fallout and let's be honest it won't take them much to be less buggy! Final Fantasy XVI & VII Rebirth - I'm a huge fan of the series so these 2 are very high on my to buy list, I'm not really sure they need much of an introduction with how well known the series is.

I'm not really going to go too in depth but a lot of the above is not true or relevant and shows a lack of understanding of our railway system, feel free to correct me if I am wrong on any of the below but to convince me I would need to see some tangible evidence (I will leave it with you to look into more depth if you want a deeper understanding or you can choose not to) - - Shareholders in the railway industry do not invest in the rail network and infrastructure. Our privately owned railway companies run, own / lease and manage the trains. The government run and maintain our railways, railway stations etc and invest the most into our network - https://dataportal.orr.gov.uk/media/2036/rail-industry-finance-uk-statistical-release-2020-21.pdf But to point out, the issues we typically have with our railway network don't stem from the state of the tracks or the stations that are owned by the government, typically it's because trains don't run on time or the service is incredibly poor etc that are privately owned. - Yes if you invested in your corner shop you would want to see a return / uplift in profit. However where a shop differs is that as a customer I can choose to go to a different shop. I can choose to go to the one with lower prices that has not had any investment or I can choose to go to the shop that has invested and pay the higher prices. If I go to my local railway station to go to my local city, I have one train company that I can use and it goes one route. There is only the option for me to choose what time I go and that affects the prices I pay. So the returns that train company is going to get are as close to a gaurantee as you can get judging the running of that train service over the several years prior. - There is a negative view but it is largely justified. Yes investment by private companies have led to some advances i.e. smart phones but they are all for the benefit of the wealthy to make more money. Those advancements have not been made to make life better or easier, it's purely profit driven, the benefits that have come about are purely happy coincidences. - HS2 is publicly funded - https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/high-speed-two-limited Any investment in HS2 has not been directly in HS2, it has been in businesses that stand to gain from the building and creation of HS2. It is down to a gamble by those who have the wealth in the first place. Yes there are investors who stand not to gain anything from HS2 for 40 years but they are also people who won't struggle to eat or live in a house or clothe themselves if it doesn't pay off.... But that is the key point isn't it, you only get rich people investing in these schemes that then stand to get richer, there is a saying that if you have money you can make more money or if you give a poor person a pound, then they need to spend that pound to eat. If you give a rich person a pound they don't need that pound so can put it towards making more money. I am going to leave it there, I find that getting drawn into these discussions tend to find that neither party will budge from their views these days because as a nation we have been encouraged to disagree, wedges have been driven and everyone always has to be right. I hope that gives you food for thought.

An element of it is just nostalgia as well, I have a much greater affinity with the games in my collection that I have had since I was little. I have Final Fantasy IX for example on a whole host of devices (I have probably bought it 5 or 6 times in addition to the original PS1 version) but I would happily sit there and connect up my PS1 and play through it on there over the other options every day of the week. Main reason my older consoles don't come out at the moment is because my daughter is a wrecking ball and would likely destroy them 😄

Just to provide a little more to the rail strikes discussion and mostly I agree with what @phil bottle has said - - Last year train companies paid out a total of £800 million to shareholders and then moments later told employees they won't be able to give them a pay rise in line with inflation - The pay is for every member of the transport union that this affects. This isn't just train drivers on higher salaries but this will likely include cleaners and the such who are likely on a much lesser if not already minimum wage. - In addition to making all of that money for their shareholders last year, they now plan to make a load of redundancies, the union is a counter to that by trying to protect all jobs within the industry Yes the cost of living is going up, but you only have to compare with other nations of a similar ilk to see that ours is going up a heck of a lot faster than most (if not all), the reasons why are mostly for another discussion but the simple fact is that our government is not doing anything to combat it because it benefits them. I use the price of fuel as a prime example, there is plenty of tax in there and fuel duty that could be cut, but because the price has gone up they are making more money in that VAT is applied to the whole cost as a percentage and not a fixed amount like fuel duty. If there aren't general strikes at some point this year with the way things are going then either the government have had a lucky break or the British people are too far gone to help anymore. The country has been divided and conquered by our elite and we really need to break out of it.

Honestly I have never completed a diablo game. However I did pick up Diablo 3 for my switch the other day which i'm planning to play on my holiday in a few weeks 😄

It might be interesting to see what forms of social media you both use? On Tik Tok for example I have seen much more pro striker and on twitter (which is predominantly an older audiences) it's much more against the strikes. We are a split nation and it's absurd that there are working class people against the idea of working class people asking for more money, how does that make sense?

I know these are not set in stone but this would be where we could see some complaints from those who subscribe to the higher tiers of ps plus. How can you offer out a game for free on the base subscription that is within either of the upper tiers of the new subscription model? Man of medan is on the ps plus extra and premium, so giving it away for free (especially if they do this frequently) begins to undermine the value of the upper tiers doesn't it? I know there's an arguement that you don't know what game you will get with the base subscription etc but I think it's a discussion to be had.

I think he's been brilliant, if only the labour party could put him in charge rather than Starmer! (That's my only political comment). But yeah it's nice to see someone being a little more straight talking on tv for a change.

So there has been a rise in modern versions of retro consoles, thinking PS1 mini and the such, typically I don't buy these but one thing I did pick up recently was an xbox controller made to feel and look like the original Duke controller. It's bulky but there is just something about gaming on it (mostly used for Fallout 76 at the moment). Just wondering what tech you guy's have that's a modern take on a classic (I think I saw someone mention the 8bitdo controllers elsewhere? The photo is of my modern duke controller, nice little novelty with this version is not only is it purple but it plays the opening scene from when you first meet Cortana in the original Halo game each time it starts up. (Please excuse the grubbiness my daughter tends to hold this one when she thinks she is gaming with me 😄 )

So this launches today, I had PS now and PS Plus anyway so it has been switched over to premium and I have that until January 2023 which will give me plenty of time to try it out and decide whether or not to stick with the full subscription. For me there are a couple of games that I really want to sink some hours into having never gotten round to it previously and it justifies the subscription at least for now - Ghost of Tsushima Returnal Death Stranding - I did briefly play this but I feel like I never gave it enough time The dark pictures games The Caligula effect There's a couple of games I might go back to such as spiderman and red dead 2 so I imagine for now I will get my money's worth but it will be like some have said, just where the future lies for the subscription

Modern retro aren't they PS3 and 360? They are going to be 20 years old in what about 4 years? I do collect for my ps3 and have one of the scarlet red versions which is rather luvley!

So personally I always prefer to play on original consoles and with original games where possible but I am a little more flexible than some people I think as I can appreciate that there are instances where emulation really comes into it's own, just a couple of scenarios where I have benefitted from it - - I am due to go on a caravan holiday, start of July and I plan to take my GPD XD so that I can play some older games without having to lug the original hardware away with me! - English translations, there are a couple of games I always wanted to play but never could because they never got released outside of Japan so there was never an English version. Since the original release however there have been fan made translations which have allowed me to enjoy the games. One of these for me being shining force 3 parts 2 and 3. - The other thought that often comes across is cost, playing and collecting older games is certainly not an affordable hobby these days and it's only going to get more expensive with some games becoming rarer or more sought after. So I can appreciate there will be people who won't ever get the opportunity to appreciate some games without emulation which would seem a shame.

I had not seen it, apologies! I have a stream card somewhere so might look at getting it set up and upload some footage of the games I have ^_^ Alien Trilogy, I never owned that until the last few years but used to love playing it at my cousins (he obviously had better PS1 games than me because now I think about it that's alien trilogy and premier manager!)

@Tar-Eruntalion golden sun is a JRPG, it had 3 games (the first 2 on the GBA were the best of the 3) but it had some brilliantly creative puzzles within the dungeons you explored and the story was really quite good. It was turn based and looked surprisingly good for such a little handheld!# The Zelda games are on my to buy list, my gameboy collection is rather small, I think because I have held off on picking games up just because I like complete copies (though that is becoming an increasingly expensive want so I may have to lower my expectations at some point). @Antpool84 it was a great way to kill hours back then, the older games were a major grindfest (not so these days)

Seeing as there is a little bit of interest (though this could turn into just Lee and myself talking about old games) I thought I would show off a couple of games in my Gameboy collection. I have never had them graded so for all I know they could be fake 😄 (And I realise as I'm uploading this I didn't take a photo of the pokemon crystal box but it's in pretty good condition. The pokemon games made up a good portion of my youth so it's probably one of my favourite parts of the collection (though I find it difficult to play the games / modern games these days with the exception of Arceus). But yeah thought it would get the ball rolling. I have a pearl blue? GBA SP that comes out every once in a while, sadly find it a bit uncomfortable to hold over longer spells. I tend to only keep hold of games I have particularly enjoyed so the bulk of my collection is made up of JRPG's / single player story driven games and a good portion of it still get's some game time every now and again. My megadrive broke so that's on my to get list again as those games are now sat in a cupboard gathering a nice thick layer of dust ^_^
