  1. I keep getting disconnected today. I have lost my progress 3 times.

    this is god awful annoying

Perhaps residual from the weekend shenanigans:

    Hey Tenno!

This post will give a quick recap on this weekend's DDoS, the Recovery, and what the Next Steps are!

    Firstly, the DDoS:

When the One Thousand Cuts Tactical Alert went live Friday March 11th just after 3 PM EDT all platforms began to feel the effects of what was quickly confirmed as DDoS strikes. Keeping in close contact with our infrastructure partners we worked to maintain connectivity despite persistent outside efforts to restrict access to the game. The attacks persisted throughout the weekend.

The outcome of these attacks were varied. Some were able to log in but were quickly booted while running missions. Others struggled to log in entirely during the onslaught. Connectivity across platforms varied with traffic spiking and dropping erratically throughout the days.

    Secondly, the Recovery:

We worked to restore our servers throughout the weekend and made progress late Saturday which impeded most of the follow up attempts to bring down the game. Maintenance was performed early this Monday morning at 10:05 AM EDT as an added safeguard against future DDoS attacks. Sunday was relatively stable as our defenses held, but some login issues remain.

We are in the midst of investigating all potentially related login issues. Existing login issues may be due to the mitigation efforts of our infrastructure partners during the attacks. We will have more updates for you throughout the day.

    Lastly, Next Steps:

This is the first time we have experienced an attack of this magnitude. You should be proud of yourselves Tenno, you survived! To thank you for your patience and understanding we are planning the following:

Baro Ki’Teer will be making a reappearance with the same offerings as this past weekend. He will arrive on Friday March 18th and will be in the Relay until Sunday March 20th 1 p.m EDT.

The Tactical Alert "One Thousand Cuts" and 2x Resource bonus will be re-run March 17th to the 20th at 1 p.m EDT. You already survived “One Thousand Cuts”, what’s a thousand more?

Purchased boosters that were affected during downtime (March 11th - 13th) will be refunded with equivalent Platinum value. We will be running a script once discussions with our infrastructure partners have come to a close.

It goes without saying you are the most encouraging community out there. Again, thank you for keeping us informed and giving your continued support.

Also big thanks to the weekend crew who worked tirelessly to restore the game.
  2. PX24 was my first real headset, the optical cable shit the bead after a few months. I had a Rocketfish headset that was okay until my rabbit ate the cord. Tritton faux leather gave me a rash. Some other cheap headset, I forget the brand, made my ears hurt. I wish the Astros had separate game and chat volume, instead they have the master volume with game/chat balance.

  3. Angry Joe is my favourite reviewer. I used to like Cynical Brit but he's so full of himself nowadays.

Angry Joe doesn't give a shit about publishers and stuff, he just blurts out whatever the hell he wants / thinks and does it very well. He never gets boring.

    +1 for Angry Joe

Though honestly, I don't watch any YouTuber. Mr Fruit for lulz now and then, but most of his stuff is mediocre with a few gems mixed in. None of these guys are anything, they're just regular blokes talking about games. Angry Joe is at least impartial.

  4. In the event the some folks are avoiding this game because they assume there's a "catch", I thought I'd explain how it works.

Warframe is available on PC, PS4 and XB1. PC is the lead platform. It is 100% free to play, forever, without any kind of cap. You can fully level your Warframe and other gear, unlock all locations, progress through all story quests, and participate in end-game activities at the highest level.

So what's the catch? There are three.

    1) Slots. To start you have 2 Warframe slots and 8 weapon slots, meaning that's all you can hold in inventory at a given time. You can rotate anything you want through those slots and experience everything the game has to offer, but you will feel very limited. This is the biggest catch.

    2) Time. It takes time to build things. For a new Warframe you typically need to acquire 3 component blueprints, which usually drop from bosses, and construction materials. Then it takes 12 hours to craft the components followed by 3 days to craft the Warframe. Weapons are simpler, buy the blueprint, farm the materials and build in 12 to 24 hours. This "grind" can be rushed along or skipped entirely by spending $.

    3) Cosmetic items are very limited if you don't want to spend money.

How to work around these 3 catches?

There are two in-game currencies. Credits are farmed and used to buy blueprints, fuse mods, build new items etc. Platinum is the premium currency and can only be purchased with real $. Platinum is used to buy slots for more weapons and Warframes, rush construction projects, buy already built and ready to use gear, and purchase cosmetic upgrades.

You start with 150 platinum for free. Warframe slots cost 20 and two weapon slots cost 12. So as far as issue #1 goes, you're handed a bandaid right off the bat. 150 can buy you 4 Warframe slots and 10 weapon slots with some left over. That's plenty to keep you busy for a long ass time. If you find you still need more slots, then you've played the fuck out of the game and maybe it's time to support the developer for bringing countless hours of fun into your life.

On point #2, the grind is the game, and I hate the term grind becasue it usually comes with a negative connotation. You get credits, resources, and blueprints by just playing. You don't play to get those things, you get those things as you play.

And point #3 is irrelevant. Cosmetic items do nothing to enhance the experience, they're superfluous and totally unnecessary.

Finally, if you're piss poor and/or absolutely refuse to spend a dime on the game (even though you'd pay $60 for something you'd put less time into) there is a way to earn platinum. You can farm rare mods and Prime parts and sell them to other players for platinum. So ultimately, it is possible to have everything for free, but that would take an immense amount of time.

What I like about this model is that you only spend money on the things you value, as opposed to paying a flat rate that likely includes a bunch of stuff you don't care about. New content is constantly being added and the core game itself is periodically upgraded. All without ever having to purchase a sequel or DLC.

  5. The A40s are definitely a bit annoying to switch and I'm usually just going between PS3 and PS4. The thing I like best about them is comfort. I went through half a dozen headsets that all had some kind of issue.

Keith Emerson, founding member and keyboardist of Emerson, Lake and Palmer and a prog rock legend, died Friday. He was 71. His bandmate Carl Palmer and the trio's official Facebook confirmed Emerson's death. TMZ reported that police found Emerson with a single gunshot wound to the head, and Santa Monica police confirmed to Billboard that Emerson died by suicide. "We regret to announce that Keith Emerson died last night at his home in Santa Monica, Los Angeles, aged 71. We ask that the family’s privacy and grief be respected," the band wrote.

"I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of my good friend and brother-in-music, Keith Emerson," Palmer wrote in a statement. "Keith was a gentle soul whose love for music and passion for his performance as a keyboard player will remain unmatched for many years to come. He was a pioneer and an innovator whose musical genius touched all of us in the worlds of rock, classical and jazz. I will always remember his warm smile, good sense of humor, compelling showmanship and dedication to his musical craft. I am very lucky to have known him and to have made the music we did together."

After discovering the Hammond and Moog in his teenage years, Emerson grew into one of the greatest keyboardists of his generation, first as a member of the Nice before founding the prog supergroup Emerson, Lake and Palmer. ELP formed in 1970 after Emerson, guitarist Greg Lake (formerly of King Crimson) and drummer Carl Palmer, a veteran of the Crazy World of Arthur Brown, joined together for a project that would better showcase their musicianship.

After a breakout performance at the Isle of Wight festival in 1970, the trio signed with Atlantic Records' Ahmet Ertegun; 37 years later, Emerson and other prog all-stars would open for Led Zeppelin at the Ertegun tribute concert at London's O2 Arena. ELP's self-titled debut arrived in 1970, the first of four albums the trio would release in their first four years together.

Following the release of 1971's Tarkus – the album's title track serves as a highlight of Emerson's keyboard prowess – and 1972's Trilogy, the group unleashed their landmark 1973 album Brain Salad Surgery; Emerson served as co-writer on that album's most enduring track, "Karn Evil 9."

After a brief hiatus to work on solo projects, ELP reunited for 1977's Works Volume 1 and Volume 2, which was followed soon after by 1978's Love Beach. ELP disbanded for the first time in 1979, although soon after Emerson, Lake and Palmer morphed into Emerson, Lake and Powell with Rainbow and Jeff Beck drummer Cozy Powell on sticks.

Emerson briefly reunited with Palmer for their 1988 project 3 before ELP reunited in 1991 and recorded their 1992 comeback album titled Black Moon; In the Hot Seat, their last studio album together, followed in 1994. After splitting again in the late-Nineties, ELP remained separate for nearly a dozen years until reuniting for one last tour together in 2010. Their final gig together came at London's High Voltage Festival in July 2010.

In addition to his time with ELP, Emerson also enjoyed a long musical career that featured both solo albums and film scores, including Dario Argento's 1980 horror film Inferno and the 1981 Sylvester Stallone thriller Nighthawks.

  7. I guess it depends on how comparable the loot you can get outside the DZ is, otherwise you end up with the Destiny situation where you're forced to raid for the best gear and if you don't have friends to play with then LFG or SOL, which is fine, but recognize you will lose players who don't like the situation.

  8. this. what i remember most is that he always seemed willing to help.

makes me wonder what Jake and Kyle are up to these days, too. anyway, RIP forum bro.

I wish there was a way to reach out to some of the old folks, Jake would be tops on that list. Kyle checks in now and then.
  9. I'm still shocked and gutted, we joined B4B at the same time and talked guitar gear. I remember he was there, lagging like a motherfucker, the first time I called in dogs in BO1. He loved the Metal Gear Solid series and had a Snake avatar and signature. When I built my own pedal board, he said "Oof Jason, that is sex". He asked for advice once when he found out his girl had cheated on him and we all tried to help him work through it.

Those are just some of the things I remember about Zake. He was a class dude, a good guy, and a great forumer. RIP friend.

TRIBUTES have been paid to a popular Barrow musician who died at the weekend after falling from a balcony.

Dean Zaccarini, 29, died on Saturday after falling from a balcony in Dantzic Street in Manchester. Greater Manchester Police have confirmed his death is not being treated as suspicious and a file has been passed to the coroner.

Tributes to Mr Zaccarini, who was frontman and guitarist with Barrow-based band Sancho, have been paid on social media.

In a post which has been shared by friends, Mr Zaccarini's father, Paul wrote: "Thank you so much for all your kind words for our amazing son and brother, nephew and cousin, the legend that is Dean Zaccarini who was and will remain so beautiful, talented, kind and loving to everyone who knew him. Our family has had 29 (nearly 30 years of sheer pleasure and it has been a great honour to be his parents. We love and miss him so much and want him to be remembered for all the good times and pleasure he gave to us and all who knew him, We love you forever Dean Rest in peace our amazing son."

Pete Downing and Malcolm Hartley of Furness Association of Musicians posted on FMA Facebook page: "It is with great shock and sadness that we pay tribute here to talented, young local musician, DEAN (ZACCA) ZACCARINI (age 30), as we learn of his passing following an unfortunate accident on Saturday night. Best known more recently as frontman, singer/guitarist with SANCHO, he was one of Barrow's most well loved and respected musicians. With such an effervescent, bubbly personality, Dean was just a joy to be around and he will leave a permanent 'feel-good' memory on the many who were lucky enough to have known him or worked with him. Our heartfelt condolences go out to all his family in their time of sorrow..... RIP 'Dude' (his favourite name for everyone)."

The MoonCats posted on their Facebook page:"Absolutely heartbreaking news about one of Barrow's finest! The local scene will never be the same again, a real character taken far too soon. The nicest, kindest, most approachable lad, who always had a moment for everyone. Our thoughts are with the Zaccarini family at this difficult time. It was an honour and a privilege to share so many gigs with you Zacca, Rest in peace! x"

The Dales Facebook page said: "We are, along with everyone that knew him, devastated to hear of the passing of one of the founder Dales members, Zacca, earlier today. He was a true gentleman, that was always a pleasure to play alongside whilst in The Dales, as well as when we played gigs with Sancho. The local music scene has lost one of its finest, and he will be sadly missed by all. Sleep well, brother x"
