Well if they aren't having a server browser and they're sticking to internal dedi's or P2P; it's clear they have no confidence in DICE or the game itself and don't want a repeat of BF4 where people spent hundreds on servers only for the game to be delivered in the state it was in, on release and long afterwards. It's also a monumental step backwards for multiplayer gaming these days. It can only be browser based, P2P or official dedi's so a 'new matchmaking system' will be along the lines of some complex hybrid listen servers that AW allegedly used - more like bullshit marketing spiel designed to confuse the consumers. No browser = no buy for me now - just when you think EA have turned a corner...

I'm in the same boat pretty much. Having a beta a month before release is not a good way to gather constructive technical feedback and is certainly not a good window to eradicate/fix issues. It'll be more of a demo than a useful performance gathering exercise. BF4 had a beta and that whole saga was a fuck up for many months and more. If the game is good, I'll still have to wait for the community feedback and performance reviews before I take the plunge.

I was nearly out of patience alone yesterday with the prologue on The Phantom Pain. I don't get how they've done Ground Zeroes which is a perfect warm-up to the main game yet the first 90 minutes of TPP is just crawling along a hospital floor hiding under beds and watching some painfully exaggerated cut scenes. Thankfully the game seems pretty good after that though. MGS certainly ain't for everyone - I've already turned this stealth game into an action fest due to sheer impatience

Just started this today and it's a good game but be warned; the prologue is the most tedious, terrible and mind-numbing introductions to a game I have ever seen. I almost refunded it based on that alone. Thankfully it does get better but be prepared for the worst hour and a half of your life gaming-wise.

Christ; this has to be the biggest pre-order bullshit I've ever seen! Great to see John Bain and Jim Sterling weigh in with comments and all the general negativity should give Square Enix food for thought in terms of reviewing this outrageous concept. SE have been edging closer to becoming the worst videogame company on the planet for a while but with this; they'll easily surpass EA and Ubisoft. *edit

Microsoft are releasing a new Xbox One unit this November; the XB1 Elite. It comes with a 1tb hybrid SSD and a brand new heavily modified controller. The package costs $500. This could drive the price of the core units right down for Christmas but for them to be ultra competitive with the PS4; they probably should have slimmed the unit down. A Slim version is inevitable in the next two years though.

Hopefully we'll have some more games later if we're both on. Just played a couple of games and the connection has been pretty decent although it does worsen at peak times and can be inconsistent but on the whole; it's not been all that bad. Hopefully we'll get the snow map before the beta ends and give that a try. Yep, that's occurred ever since the update yesterday. It's bloody irritating and I have to take my headphones off in the final killcam. I liken it to a riot shield being hit by bullets, farting and a car alarm going off! Not sure what's happened to cause it but everyone is affected it seems.

I've played nearly 4 hours or so on the beta and BO3 seems a really decent game. I don't think it will rejuvenate the series to the heights that it once held but it will certainly bring a lot of people back and keep them playing for many months after release. The mechanics are easy to use and very smooth. The grounded gameplay as opposed to the verticality of Advanced Warfare just makes it so much better. The game also feels more relaxed as opposed to an absolute sweat-fest that AW was. I just found that game exhausting to play with the constant fast pace and the using of and playing against the exo abilities. BO3 feels like a sensible Call of Duty despite the far-futuristic setting. Nice to see some of the classic scoretreaks return although some seem really OP and the UAV is a bit easy to earn in objective matches. Some of the perks and specials are also a bit generous or too powerful but it's nothing that can't be addressed. The heart of the game is definitely that of a solid CoD title though that may need some tweaks and balances prior to release. The guns seem interesting to use and varied. I'm liking the ARK-7 which feels like your classic AK-47. Looking forward to unlocking more. The leveling does seem much slower although there is 10 prestiges and 55 levels. I was still level 1 after my first game which was a full one and am only level 15 at this time. I could get to level 20 in about 4 matches on BO2 but I must have played 25 so far in BO3 and it seems more like an MW2 grind. Don't mind this though - at least people wont be Prestige Master come the first week of December and the developers then having to add another 10-15 prestiges more. Treyarch have already confirmed they wont do this so hopefully there's good incentive to keep playing a long duration and trying to reach max prestige without doing it in the first month. The maps seem decent - only got access to three so far; Hunted, Evac and Combine. The spawns need to serious work though. The major concern has been the lag so far along with inconsistent bullet detection. These are famed negatives from previous CoD games that seem to plague Treyarch since the original Black Ops. This needs serious addressing by release else it could have a very bad affect right off the bat.

I saw both vids - the live report and the POV and it's one of the most shocking things I've ever seen in my life. What makes this more alarming is the way such clips are farmed round social media and shared between people like it's some 1D, Kim Kardashian or Justin Bieber piece of gossip. Both clips could be viewed on most mainstream news sites without even as much as an age restriction. No doubt they are looking to maximise clicks for a tragedy within their own industry. Obviously the gunman left a lasting effect by showcasing his despicable act in the public domain but the way the clip is thrown from pillar to post I find equally disturbing. Not much leaves me feeling sick with shock but to think that younger people could access it so easily and being blinded by social curiosity that they simply have to view it. It's a truly tragic day and I think the scenes will have a lasting affect in many ways. Hope that evil twisted twat rots in hell.
