  1. Have any of you delved into it much? I had a brief experience with the psvr when it first came out and I think I went in too hard and put myself off it, ultimately sold it and have not been back since. However I got a deal on a refurbed Oculus Quest 2 the other day and my first impressions have been quite positive, a big improvement over PSVR, the controls are brilliant and it has additional features which are useful such as being able to double tap and see what's actually going on around you when needed etc. I do need to work on my VR tolerance now so I am going to spend 10-20 minutes everyday if I can just having short experiences while I get comfortable but there are a number of games I want to try on it as well as wanting to try and model some architecture / building services in it as well (so try and explore the productivity side of things). So yeah, has anyone else tried any of the headsets, what are your good / bad experiences?

  2. They are losing $200m a year on average with the current business model and aren't expecting to post a profit until 2027 and even that sounds rather optimistic because it's based on a complete shift in their model of stopping free games and only accounting for paid revenue. If it does post a profit then it will likely be minimal - they wont be burning money on giveaways but they certainly wont be delivering much money to cover the annual losses since it was formed. Their only selling point is freebies and I bet 95% of those users don't have an established transaction history on record. The Fortnite crowd also don't seem to be branching out to support the platform and they cannot maintain this business as it is forever, even in the short term because it's not viable. If it wasn't for Fornite and Unreal propping them up, EGS would be defunct already. Game Pass is a better option especially when it comes to newer titles - most of the giveaways are titles that are passed their peak income or are old. They certainly haven't managed to attract much in the way of game exclusives and now Ubisoft have returned to Steam so there goes that partnership too! I deleted my Epic account years ago and have not ever grabbed one of their freebies. The interesting thing is they only have to pay if the end-user installs the game - imagine the black financial hole if they paid for every title that was added to an account! I can't see it ever turning around.

  3. I wonder how much money Epic have pumped into their Store now 😁 Good for the consumer if they keep it up. Personally I have a ridiculous amount of games so just can't be bothered going near Epic, even for freebies...

  4. Had a go on Magic Leap a few years ago thanks to @tronic44 Absolutely amazing. I get dizzy from PSVR but I'd have a go on Steam's VR set up as the higher refresh rate apparently mitigates the motion sickness. @Greboth can tell you better on that!

  5. I was thinking the other day how many controllers I've used over the years for each system. Picking a fave is not easy as most have done their job based on the device and games it was intended for. Thought I'd pick out a few that I've used over the years but tough to choose which is best overall. PS1 pad was amazing for its time and influential for many years to come. Loved the D-pad and buttons. Start and select were a bit weird to press but it did the job perfectly. N64 was very advanced at the time especially with the 3D stick, a solid D-pad, shoulder buttons, Z-trigger along with the two standard plus yellow directional ones. Didn't use the d-pad much from what I remember but the 8-direction stick was really ideal for the likes of Goldeneye and the array of platformers. Dreamcast controller was pretty awesome - fit nicely in the hands and much smaller than it appeared in pictures. Full 360 degree stick with solid grips too. D-pad was a bit too tight and raised for my liking though but was fairly under-used in most games plus the coloured buttons also felt a bit cheap. The VMU/memory card aspect was also pretty interesting but devs didn't make much use out of it in the end sadly. Microsoft Sidewinder - got this for Christmas around the early 2000's. Bit weird on the face of it but it worked surprisingly well. Had a strange 3D-type D-pad that was slanted slightly which was fairly unique even to this day. My only gripe was the lack of coloured or clearly marked buttons. Very comfrotable though. Playstation 2 pad was just amazing - expanded upon the original with pressure-sensitive buttons and twin sticks - these didn't have much grip and were perhaps a bit large but they worked pretty well. The first Xbox pad was way too heavy for my linking - I didn't really like the white and black buttons as they were too small and dug into your finger. The vibration also made a buzzing sound and the coloured buttons felt a little elevated and cheap. Can't remember how the D-pad was but the sticks were solid enough. Seemed a little over-engineered but with tweaks, future Xbox ones were spot-on. Gamecube controller was very strange - every button was bizarre and the D-pad and right stick was just so oddly placed. It didn't really have a detrimental effect on the games and the main 3D stick was fine but it just seemed a bit of a mess. I don't quite consider the Wii, 360 or DS3 pads retro as of yet - all excellent and highly reliable controllers. The Wii was really unique in what was a bit of a fad of the era despite monumental success. The 360 and PS3 controllers were both excellent and remain the key foundations for pads today.

  6. For me it was the Xbox 360. Fit my gorilla hand’s perfect. Led to very little fatigue like PlayStation controllers did. My second favorite is probably the PS5. Same reason is it fits my hands well. However I do wish they made one like the Xbox thumb sticks.

  7. On C64 it was all about joysticks, which usually got destroyed by games like Track and Field and had the word Thrust somewhere in their name 🙂 But for consoles it's got to be the SNES and N64 controllers that brings back fondest memories. Never been a fan of PlayStation controllers until the new one for PS5. Which is amazing. As you say, it's not quite retro yet but for me the various Xobox 360 controllers are my favourites of all time.

That's kinda the tactic that I've been using with the exception of the helo and I've been using battle rage rather than the ammo box.

  9. I watched Tinker Taiilor Solider Spy last night for the first time. I remember this being advertised extensively just over a decade ago but I just never got round to seeing it. Interesting Cold War espionage film with a very strong and recongisable cast. Pacing and tone was a bit wayward at times but it looked fantastic and was a good watch indeed. Can't believe Kathy Burke went from this to this🤣

  10. That's the other thing, the store and platform as a whole was missing so much key functionality - literally only started supporting cloud saving two years after launch and despite a few other staple features being drip-fed, it's still missing a lot including basic game forums. Epic also got a $500m fine the other day so it really isn't looking all that rosy in terms of reputation. Tim Sweeney is also not being so cocky now after he's played all his cards and has failed to put any dent into Steam or provide any confidence or key benefits for developers.

  11. So my finger may have slipped and ordered one earlier - oh well. I've been eyeing up one for a while but quite a few games I'd play on it aren’t properly supported but having spent far too much time reading online about people running Windows on it and emulators, it's a hard proposition to say no to so finally gave in. It says delivery is 2 weeks but I imagine they've sold a lot leading up to Christmas and Christmas itself is going to delay that further but looking forward to lunch times in the office next year 😄 I've also ordered a dock for it too, not so much for connecting a screen but being able to use the mouse and keyboard at my desk at work over lunch will be great. I've also ordered an SD card so lots of storage for other games too.

  12. The PSVR was my first experience in to VR and it was great and it convinced me enough to go for a proper HMD. Due to my large head and IPD my only choice was the Index, which if memory serves, is the same resolution as the Quest. They're definitely a massive step up over the PSVR in both HMD quality and controllers. I've only really played Half Life Alex on it and the rest of the time it's used for racing and rallying. I do sometimes wish it would be more portable/wireless as it would have been great to take to Wales for example but the tracking accuracy and high refresh rate it hard to pass up. As for good and bad, I can't say I've had any bad experiences with it and only got motion sickness a couple of times. Though both were exception cases; doing corkscrew roles in No Mans Sky and using a 3rd person camera in ETS2. Though it does vary person to person, my Dad has had a few goes with VR on my racing rig and after a few minutes has to stop. Though I have read a number of people saying they've been able to build up a tolerance by playing a little each day until they can play for longer and longer. As above, I bought mine with the almost sole intention of using it for racing which I think simulations are the best use for VR. Though I know a few people who enjoy things like Beat Saber and games like Superhot in VR too. There's a couple of of FPS games which look like fun but are apparently quite difficult.

My suggestion for what it is worth. Go in with a sniper rifle, the Katrov 545, a mask and a spare, molotov, stims, ammo box Come in with the little helicopter and land it just outside the zone (so you don't get DDOS Snipe and clear what you can see, have a silencer on the sniper riffle Get the chemist and make your way to the helo Extract at the furtest extraction I would recommend solo so that the helo takes of quickly or have a team that is willing to suicide once you are on your way to extraction. That way the Helo takes off about 4 seconds after you board The only person who gets the blue print is the one carrying it. So trustworthy team mates are essential. Otherwise you are better off alone

  14. That I did not know! But yeah a complete of waste of money their end unless they have an Epic Deck or some other game changer up their sleeve. Have they even started to make the Store UI into something half decent I wonder? I could check but I doubt I'll be arsed.

Got my closest to getting the m13b this evening, I got the chemist but then got swarmed by enemies both inside and outside the radiation zone, I'm determined I will get it though.

  20. I just picked this up on PS5 thanks to the spring sale and I kind of wish they did a lot more with this "resurrected" edition. By that, I mean completely rebuild the game and give it that modern, Diablo 3 feel in so far as gameplay and quality of life upgrades that 3 has. The fact it's a prettier version of diablo 2 is rather disappointing. It's enjoyable by far, I just wish when a game developer says remake they actually remake said game instead of updating the decor.

    Diablo 2: Resurrected

I Bought Diablo II resurrected at full price, worth it. I didn't care they had issues at beta, it's a beta for crying out loud. Of course, betas have problems, that's why we played it to find issues so they can fix them. If they have some problems at release, even then I won't care, will play it lots and lots.

    Diablo 2: Resurrected

From what I understand is it is still D2 and all its glory. Though it will have the option to toggle on and off the new 3D overlay, along with some quality of life changes. I also heard they will be bringing it to the Xbox and PlayStation, which will be interesting to see. D2 is by far the best game in the series so far and as much as I love D3 it has been a big let down. As annoying as it was I wish they had kept it in it vanilla state. Here is hoping that D4 lives up to the hype I have built up for it, as a lot of the core mechanics are coming from D2. Will definitely pick this remaster up regardless for the nostalgia at least.
