Evil West
phil bottle and one other reacted to Riff Machine for a topic
This one dropped near the end of November, and it almost feels like a Western, vampire slaying God of War 2018 kinda game. The action is paced roughly the same as the new GoW series, with the exception of not being in an open world. Instead, you run a series of missions, in which, you can find a host of collectibles scattered about. It's been a fun go of it, but it feels really dated. I almost feel like if this released during the early 360/ps3 era, it would've been one of the most talked about games. I'd wait for a price sale though. I think this one will be a freebie at some point considering it's not a AAA studio/publisher. But, It's one that'll be fun playing through.2 points -

The publishers really hyped it up and it looked an interesting concept but the execution looks fairly dated and uninspired. I can definitely see it a few people having a go if it was around the £12-15 mark but £44 on Steam is pretty outlandish. There's been quite a few mechanically similar games in recent years so for many it just wont feel new even with a drastically different setting and backdrop. By the time it drops in price though, I will probably have moved onto other games.2 points -

GazzaGarratt and one other reacted to Riff Machine for a topic
Man, there have been so many. I really liked the Dreamcast VMU memory cards. At the time, I thought those were amazing little additions that doubled in some cases as a portable game. Damn near every namco controller they made for a ridge racer or rage racer game. the R4 controller Jogcon was really weird to use. I agree with @J4MES OX4D on Game Boy accessories. Those were a necessity in a lot of cases.2 points -

Ok, I'm really enjoying this game. It's still got me laughing and chuckling along as I fight my way through each bounty mission. I picked up my second living gun, which is a shotgun/disc launcher that can create platforms in hot wall areas. I also just got a Series X, so running this on that is silky smooth too.2 points -

Some 8BitDo controllers like the N30, M30. Raphnet Adapter N64 to USB which allows the use of an official N64 controller and it's the only adapter that can support Rumble/Memory packs. Venom Arcade Stick which I upgraded to SANWA buttons and stick. Had for years and I use this mostly for MAME and fighting games. As you see, the ones I would say have been my best purchases all relate to playing retro or MAME games on PC. One day I'd love to buy a cabinet or a bar top cabinet. Oh and back in 2013 I had this shipped from America as you couldn't buy it over here. it's pretty much a golf stick designed for the Move controllers on PS3. Used this to play Tiger Woods games, really nice product. I still have it but don't have room to use it here.2 points -
Dwarf Fortress Steam Edition
phil bottle and one other reacted to Bluebear for a topic
Yeah, one of the main differences to get your head round between DF and RW is the verticality. For example, doing stuff like routing water into your fortress (usefull access to fresh water for hospitals, irrigation, etc without having to go outside), suddenly becomes a lot more complex when you have to consider traversing up and down. Not to mention the unexpected challenges/benefits that may bring... (Dwarves enjoy watching waterfalls. They do not enjoy a torrent of pressurised water instantly flooding their fortress and drowning them all)2 points -
Dwarf Fortress Steam Edition
phil bottle and one other reacted to Bluebear for a topic
Had my spare pickaxes stolen by monkeys and then all my dwarves got depressed from having to drink water because I forgot to set up a brewing still. Compared to the OG version it's a lot more user friendly out of the box (and visually appealing, although that could be solved with tilesets for the original). While we have seem to have lost some fuctionality on minor parts (possibly overlooked), and some keyboard shortcuts no longer work fully as mouse selection is required, it's still the same old Dorf Fortress I've loved the past decade or so, just so very much prettier. Honestly I was just happy to fling 25 quid to the Adams brothers.2 points -
Yeah, I have it installed and will likely be playing it through for the third time 😄 I am quite the fan of the series and still have the original physical releases of the first game, I only have the 1 book so far though and am yet to read it so not sure on what if any the differences are between the different forms of media. I can say though that the storytelling of this game is brilliiant and the scenery looks fantastic, the only thing that lets this game down is the clunkiness of the controls.2 points

I thought I would ask you guy's what gadgets you have that you have bought that have been worth the money or better than you thought? I.e. on my old TV, it was a Philips tv and on the back it had the philips hue lights built in which really made it just that much better when gaming. I have contemplated buying the hue sync box and lights but they are a bit too steep pricewise. Did that £10 controller stand prove to be a surprisingly great buy? Are there headphones you swear by, have any of you splashed out on fancy controllers etc etc1 point -

Season 1 Reloaded
IRaMPaGe reacted to TigerBurge for a topic
I don’t think it’s intentional. It’s squad spawning. You always spawn near a teammate. If you team is spread out the spawns work great. If they are bunched up or one twat is camping those spawn you’re fucked. There is no more invisible line that flips the spawn like before. Or the line is really pushed back. If you have someone staying if each of their spawns it won’t flip. I’ve seen it too many times now.1 point -

The FG Awards 2022
J4MES OX4D reacted to GazzaGarratt for a topic
The 5th year of the FG Awards!! After a year of reconnecting with the real world for all of us, this year has flown by so quickly, but we couldn't end it without having our star awards to round off the year on a high. It was a privileged year too, as we were able to present many of our FG Awards in person at our biggest ever face to face meet up. I really hope you enjoy reading the below piece. A unique place deserves unique rewards to give us all the best memories to hold on to. So let's get into them! Young FGer of the Year A person that has had an extremely busy year for himself, studying for A-levels and the hope of getting into one of the most prestigious Universities in the land. However, even alongside this really important life task, he made himself available to help FGers complete raids in Destiny 2, and any support needed to get a Dungeon done he would be there. Not only this but he's now branched out to Dark Souls games, sharing his feedback with all of FG, including creating his very own PPR. Winner - @Venom - Charlie FG Noobie of the Year Since joining in May, he has been an ever present all over FG; contributing in different in multiple topics, sharing new information, posting videos, reviewing new games for us to look at, giving us great joy (and banter) on FIFA nights and equally getting involved throughout the week on other FG gaming nights too. I delight to have around and a real FGer with same core values we all hold to help each other where possible. Winner - @Luseth - Matt Guardian Down Award We had some funny moments this year from people that carried on trying regardless of their epic fails. There are two winners this year as there was no separating them through the amount of trial and tribulations they've had on Destiny. So much so, this Grandmaster clip epitomises how and why they couldn't be separated. 7th run in, after not getting very far at all, we reach the first turn in the map before the first checkpoint. I get blasted into space and thinking Nick and Kempy would be the saviours, only they could manage to kill themselves in glorious fashion. Winners - @Bluebear & @Kemp210 - Nick & Kempy Archbishop of Banterbury This guy has had one hell of a ride this year so no wonder we find him most nights randomly in a party with us all and when you least expect it, blasting out the most random expletive you can think of, which usually sends everyone into a laughing frenzy. He's always getting on most week's, especially FG Fridays bringing the jokes of his weekly escapades along with him. For all the hard points in his life over the past 12 months, Bones is a fine example of cracking on and trying to have as much in life as you can. Winner - @slamminbones - Paul FG Skills Award You look good, you feel good. You feel good, you play good. FG's Mr Smooth Operator has been banging out the park across multiple games this year. Whether its ridiculous fancy flicks on FIFA, his slick sniper shots on Warzone, or even Ko'ing 2 gangsters at the same time on GTA. The guy has it all. Not to mention his joke delivery is usually bang on the money. Top props for an absolute top guy. Glad we have him at FG. Winner - @jordie1892 - Jordie FG Play of the Game Keeping the award going from last year's debut at FG, there have been many FG clips that have been simply superb. Kenny's efforts to annihilate everyone in CoD, Leeesh's finishing skills on Elden Ring bosses, yet here we are talking about another top evening of goals from our resident Left Centre Mid for FG, Macca. The clip below is not only one clip but it was an array of some incredibly skillful goals from just one evening with FG. Hopefully the likes of the people above can push more people here to share their clips for everyone else at FG to see. Winner - @Macca89 - Macca FG Top Contributor Tough one to call this year, with J4mes Oxford still delivering tons of info for us, Kenny chipping in with some great variety across FG but someone that just shades it this year is our favourite Canadian, an incredible person that can also double up as batman online when we want him too, and has also started a podcast with Sarah that we're all very proud of to say he is an FGer. Some great reviews and some great info about some games most of us never knew existed. Winner - @Riff Machine - Chad FGer of the Year Who says you can't win awards more than once? A real toughie as many of you have been fantastic for FG this year. This person has kept many a game night going, and when you need that one extra person, you know he'll be there. He keeps me going, and many other factors in FG tick, including multiple server games and offering his incredible support through his extra talents with art, maths and videos. All in his own spare time. Epitomises what FG is all about and I'm sure he will keep on helping people forever more. Thanks for everything this year, Greebs. Winner - @Greboth - Chris Hall of Fame Two amazing people that have been here since the dark ages. They've always been a dynamic duo that's kept plugging away with some of our most senior crew on Destiny and CoD, laughing away and giving things a go even when it may not end up in their favour. And it was great that we were able to meet them at our biggest meet up ever in November to give them their awards. Always available to lend an ear if you ever needed it and give you the straight talking truth even if you didn't know you needed it! Resident FGers for life, thanks for everything Mazz & Gaz. Winners - @mazzer & @wapntake - Mazz & Gaz We're finally done for another year! Phew! Looking back I don't think I'd ever see a year flyby as quick as this one but it certainly has and I hope it has been a great one for you all at FG. We must keep true to ourselves and keep being around for each other. You all play a fundamental role in why FG is the one place - the best place - on the internet where people can feel loved and know they'll always have a friend here to lean on when they least expect it. GGFG1 point -
Martyrdom would be awesome, I would be happy with your player dropping your frag if you are killed whilst throwing it, currently it only stays in play if you have already let go of it before you are killed. I get the spawns trying to make streaks harder I can get on board with that, however there are many times the game spawns you into an impossible situation in the middle of the enemy squad1 point

I landed the Heaven Sword today a couple of times and that seems to lack punch for me even though it seemed to do well on the stats at the end. The Evolved Axe just looks good and it's so satisfying to see your enemies get pushed out of the way and a nice space open up. I tried a Garlic run earlier and it was a bit of a slog to level up but it certainly is effective - definitely more of a defensive weapon so it's important you also have some heavily-leveled projectiles at hand. Bible seems to act more an offensive one but also provide enough of a defence top bottom and sides. I really need to have a look at what's required to Evolve weapons as I've only by chance stumbled on a couple of combinations to get the Axe and Sword so far. Tomorrow I am going to try and get the achievement of surviving 20 minutes with Krochi - that's a very long time in this game!1 point -

What does the bible actually do? That may be a useful item I have completely overlooked especially when getting swarmed. I think a good strategy is to choose two or three projectiles and focus on buffing them up rather than spreading out 4-5 different ones. When those don't appear, I grab health, armour or damage improvements. I was rocking 6 knives on one run and those go off in the direction you face so it's ideal for clearing a forwarding path. The axes are also very powerful in a vertical direction especially if you have two or 3 going off. The water can also clear some much needed space and I've had some massive damage output from the cross. I am beginning to swerve the bombarding birds and projectiles that have no accuracy like the bone or flame as those can get you into trouble post-level 15 onward. I've been screwed over so many times with the skeleton swarm on the meadow and sometimes early on I can tell I am not going to have enough power or defence to get through them. The library is a pretty cool level - only done it a couple of times but despite being very narrow, you can get some serious flow going and really tear groups apart.1 point -

So true. If/when we're able to get a Steam Deck when they come out it'll be one of the first games I play on it. Last night I had my best run at over 30 minutes and level 102 in the library. It's interesting trying to find the best balance between what's useful in early levels and will help in higher levels. Items I've found key are garlic, the whip, and the bible for when you start getting swarmed. The axes and fireballs are great too because they later evolve into great aoe damage for higher levels. There's a pentagram item that makes everything on your screen disappear periodically that I want to try leveling up in a run because that would be really good for high levels when you're just a tiny bubble on the screen surrounded by enemies.1 point
