I'm the Independent Living Specialist at a group home for young men who are about to be out on their own. I teach them IL skills like; creating a resume, interviewing tips, how to open a bank account, grocery shopping, budgeting, etc. Masters in Pyschology and Bachelors in Criminal Justice. Been in this field for 11 years.

(Hopefully) done with all that work cr@p! Took early retirement 2 years ago almost to the day. Used to be a plumbing estimating and design engineer but now I’m part of the green keeping team at my bowls club. No grand kids yet and Mrs P still works part time so works well for a bit of daytime gaming as well! 👍

 

Anyone who says retirement is boring is talking out of their jacksie ....I mean, every day is a bank holiday, what’snot to love? 😂😂

I work in Projects. Pretty vague I know but essentially I lead in changes that happen at a Building Society. You'd be surprised how many things need changing or we want changing like systems, policies and strategies. I'm very lucky to do many varied things and help make decisions that impact the direction of where we go. I've only ever worked for this company too. Nearly 14 years.

It can be very rewarding, but this field also has an extremely high turnover rate. The stress is nuts. There are days when I want to choke these kids. But there are also days when I feel really good knowing I'm helping someone get their life on track. I've learned to put my efforts into the kids who are trying. The ones that don't give a fuck, I don't give a fuck. You can lead a horse to water... But thanks man. I appreciate the kindness.

I work for a motion capture company as Capture Assistant Director and Stage Manager. We help make games, films, music videos, anything really. I love it, couldn’t imagine working anywhere else.

I am a Civil Servant, specifically within the Insolvency Service.  It is hard to describe my job as it is basically to support all the other teams within the Department that I work.  Mostly it revolves around providing figures and statistical analysis to whomever wants or needs it, some low level upkeep of our payments system, helping people external to us upload files to us (it is very specific data with tight validation rules so it's often wrong).  However it extends wider than that to a sort of Jack of all trades and in my time I've paid people money, answered general queries, drafted letters in response to complaints, written to MP's, advised on legislative matters, created and presented training to other staff on things from Excel to writing SQL, TUPE to Employee Status.

 

The pay is terrible, like truely utterly terrible, but everyday is different and most days a challenge as I'm always being asked to do something or for something that I've not done before.

Im a CNC machinist, setter and programmer. I work horizontal borers and multi axis milling machines but im also an apprentice trained vertical borer and turner.

Like Lee I've only worked at the one firm and on August the 11th I'll have been there 32 years 😫 21 years of that was on nights.

I'm an admin assistant in a psychology office that specializes in treating veterans, those still serving, RCMP, ambulance and police dispatch, and first responders. Two of the three psychologists I work for also still have independent practice clients that don't fall within those parameters. We're less than a year old, so we're still ironing out some kinks and getting some things going, but we've had a good response so far. I majored in psychology in university and then went to college for administration, so this job is really the best of both worlds for me.

 

Previously I worked for a hospital as a clinical secretary in an off-site hemodialysis unit for 5 years and did a 1 year stint in their Privacy and Access office. That was a stressful year of intense impostor syndrome, but I learned some interesting things that I've brought to my current job.

I work for Michelin. I’m in quality. I inspect tires. Well not so much inspecting now as I babysit 15 grown adults since taking this new position a few months ago.  Been there 12 years now. Eighteen more until I can retire 😩

I work for a housing association in the Development team as a Development Assistant. So this covers all admin work, getting legal contracts signed (land transfers, development agreements, shared equity/ownership leases etc), doing utility searches and helping with any defects that occur whilst in the 12 months warranty from the developer, prepping powerpoint presentations for meetings etc

I've decided at the grand old age of 24 that I want to pursue a career that I would enjoy and want to do as a proper career, and not just stuck in a job that I don't enjoy; so I've started doing a course on Udemy (training course website) in my spare time to learn HTML, CSS and JavaScript then hopefully get my foot in somewhere as a Web Developer.

Oh nice! Its definitely something that are always sought after by many companies. I think its good for anyone actually as it gives you some appreciation as to what goes on many things that we all use on a daily basis.

Definitely, I'm actually exploring the Apprenticeship route too as there's a couple in my area so I've applied for them. It's a small paycut from my current job but the apprenticeship lasts a year and if its a way of getting your foot in the door in the industry, then hey, it's worth that

I've been doing the commercial insurance broker since January. Not my cup of tea. Used to work an an underwriter for an insurance company. The company is actually from the UK Aviva. 

 

I'm going to make the transition to a residential/commercial painter. My buddy has a 1 man company and needs a partner. I definitely hate being stuck behind a desk. It gets bloody boring. I want to work with my hands. I understand marketing and networking. He understands painting. We're going to put our brains together and get this accomplished. Got my first job on Monday. I'm calling in sick at my brokerage lol.

Have an interview tomorrow for an IT Test Analyst role at a Software Consultancy. Only 10 minutes away in City centre so fingers crossed.

 

Anyone have any experience?
