Football (Played with Feet)

Think our fans received a bit of a wake up call, having seen it for weeks on social media Blues fans harping on about how we are going to walk the league, not lose a single game etc. Reading came at us and fought, they pressed really well and in all fairness if they were in the championship they would do well playing like that.

What it did show is that each team this season will bring their A game against us and we need to fight for each point, there were glimpses of good play and when Hansson came on we looked much better, though at other times I felt I was watching one of Southgate's teams with the sideways and backwards passing. The number of shots flattered us and I felt Reading should have walked away with more, I think that's where the quality or lack thereof was noticeable because though they had great chances they just could not finish.

If we are in and around the play off mix for our first season in league 1 I would be happy with that, a season of gelling, getting everything together and then a promotion or title push even next season.

Lee will be fairly pleased too, 6 goals in the Blackburn game.

Personally looking forward to seeing if Solanke can do the business in a Spurs shirt...

After last night's Carabao Cup game, we've scored 10 in 2 games. Unfortunately we've now reached out quota for goals in the entire 24/25 season so hoping for 37 no score draws to get us to 40 points 🤞

Szmodics joins Ipswich @GazzaGarratt

Inevitable he was going to leave unfortunately and he deserves his shot in the Premier League. The only slight disappointment is that he went for 10 million which is pretty cheap for an Attacking Midfielder that was the 2nd highest goalscorer from all the English Leagues, with only Haaland beating him. Silly money for young unproven players elsewhere.

Phew, for a moment I was worried that Chelsea would've missed his contract expiring 👀😅

They're doing that to a bunch of players, Cole Palmer is on a 10 year contract. It's all about transfer fees of course. I'd hate to be a Chelsea fan.

They don't seem to realise if a player is absolute ass, the will just sit on a 7+ year contract rather than leave the club, or force a move with a large part of their remaining contract paid off. Mudryk is hot garbage yet he's got it comfortable for the foreseeable. Palmer is probably Chelsea's only half decent prospect and even then his contract wont add much to his overall value because teams will just move on if the negotiations are too complex or he isn't budging easily. I was hoping the Prem had clamped down on this nonsense.

Tuchel confirmed England manager.

Good appointment. Not many managers available and a hard gig to follow given whoever is next must win the next big tournament.

Agreed, champions league winner, can’t disagree he’ll at least make these players look the part. Southgate did a great job getting these players all together, hopefully now Tuchel can get them winner things.

Will agree, I think Southgate did well even if some fans won't admit it. I do feel that this could be a bit like Moyes at Man U in that whoever was picked to follow Southgate, if they don't win a tournament immediately then they won't last in the job (rightly or wrongly).

To me I would be happy if he continues on what Southgate has achieved so a semi final or final first would be fine with me 🙂 But yeah would be nice to see us win something in the next 5-10 years considering the base we now have to work from.

I'm pleased with the Tuchel appointment. It is rare you have a manager of this calibre at international level because most of the top ones are forever tied to clubs and that's where they usually want to be. This is definitely a huge name for a big role.

Southgate did a fantastic job in his tenure and restored faith and belief in English football for the first time in well over a decade and this time we actually got close to achieving things. Sadly he just couldn't get us over the line and I think bad game management in both finals will forever haunt his opinion for many frustrated fans. I do think we had some fortunate routes through and were certainly lucky to get to the final this year but it's a results business and we did come incredibly close.

Tuchel is proven and I think he will bring even more out of the players and be able to manage games far better.

Still won more than Arteta😎

I'm still staggered how Man Utd don't think thats good enough either! They were never going to be the best in England or the World overnight. They have real horrible rooted issues with the players for me.

Yep, it's been a culmination of the board signing inappropriate players, wasting big money and not giving managers a chance. It all started with Moyes and over a decade later and it's the same old story. Some of these managers probably haven't even heard of half the signings made by the club and I think it was Ole that had to play players even if he didn't want them in his starting line-up. Jose once even had to ask a player what his name was at the training ground or something ridiculous.

ten Hag can be held responsible for the terrible signings during his time at the club, it’s obvious that they were his players that he wanted to bring in. He was backed by the club and they haven’t worked out.

I don’t disagree however about the deep routed issues at the club. That’s the excuse all of the other managers and pundits have used.
