Games. Games. Games.

Can't see what a PS5 Pro can do really without better, exciting, enhanced games ready to come out and blow us away. Games will almost certainly dictate what people will play on...and I think they are forgetting not everyone that had a PS4 has a PS5 yet due to the sheer availability and cost of them for so long has been super high.

A good choice for anyone who doesn't own a PS5 but wants one in the near future. Other than that, it's definitely not worth upgrading from a standard PS5 especially if the few current gen games available play the same essentially. These mid-gen console releases are nothing more than a marketing refresh rather than an extra step to build on existing hardware.

I don't feel like any modern games really take advantage of the current systems in the first place, a pro will sell for the same reason pc gamers feel the need to buy top of the line hardware, bragging rights.

But I won't be picking one up, we need new games, something exciting and a bit innovative (Ratchet & Clank partially achieved that). But generally the software side of things has been really poor on consoles in recent years, there is an awful lot of shovelware appearing all over the place and the store fronts are not optimised very well to deal with it in the way that Steam is.

Just coming back to this thread to stress.

Games. Games. and more Games.

We don't need another console, we need the gaming market to start backing developers to push some limits as the market feels slightly stagnant right now.

I think this is probably the most disappointing mid-gen we've ever had in gaming. The PS4/XB1 era is notorious for being the weakest, yet by the midway stage we'd already had Horizon Zero Dawn, Overwatch, Persona 5, Bloodborne, Uncharted 4, Metal Gear Solid 5, The Witcher 3, The Last of Us Remastered, Fallout 4, Doom, Dishonored 2 plus many more. Also games like God of War, Red Dead Redemption 2, Nier Automata and Spider Man, all of which were released around 2018 or before and concluded a very strong finale. Games evolved massively and really grew in ambition.

Now the industry feels incredibly stagnated with few developers taking risks and everything feeling run of the mill. PS5's are turning into the ultimate dust collectors and Game Pass keeps stalling because people have played everything worth playing. Next two games I am playing are Age of Mythology 2 and Resident Evil 2 1999 and whilst Flight Sim 2024 looks promising and I may get BO6, it's not exactly anything revolutionary.

Yeah it feels like we have some fantastic hardware currently but the only console I have been remotely excited for content on is the Switch.

Feels like Sony and microsoft have really lost what made earlier consoles so great, working with developers and such to push the boundaries of these machines, now it seem's like they are given the consoles and just told to crack on.

What in the absolute L was that reveal??!

Thats probably the worst Sony one I've ever seen. Nothing about it is even worth it, unless they're saying GTA 6 can only run on that, which I wouldn't be surprised to hear in the future.

£700? No disc drive it seems too. I genuinely can't get my head around it all because its the most illogical decision Sony have ever made. Didn't even see any new games to take advantage of it, just old games that I'm likely not going to play again. I may have if Last of Us decided to do the multiplayer, but oh yeah, it got scrapped by Sony 🤷‍♂️

I may have also unexpectedly got hopes up when I heard from Matt the possible rumours of backward capability to PS1 and PS2 original games...but without that slot I can't really even see that happening either!

I have no more words in my head other than absolutely dumbfounded by all of this.

For £700, you don't even get a plastic stand FFS! The disc drive is bad enough but to not get a something you got with the base PS5's that probably costs £2 to land is just the biggest insult in gaming. If you want the device to be peripherally the same as the old PS5, you'll need to spend an extra £100 on the drive and stand alone. Sony also slyly upped the prices of controllers this week. This is the lowest point in gaming since the XB1 VHS reveal.

Sorry for getting your hopes up @GazzaGarratt I was only regurgitating what I had read but the internet is only right about 5% of the time 😄

That was a p*ss poor reveal, trying to advertise a beefed up PS5 when the content on the current generation has been quite poor. In fact they were advertising the PS5 Pro with games that have been out for some time already and even with Ghost of Tsushima that no matter how great the game is, it was a PS4 title! Another notable omission was the lack of footage with Astro Bot, a game that has just come out, that show's off the haptics and such, I wonder if that's because Astro will look the same whichever console you use?

I understand why they have done it, for them it's natural to release a pro around this point in a console's lifetime, the issue is complacency and the fact that as absurd as this is people will still buy it as people want the best / shiny new thing to show off on their tik toks and such.

I can say, without a doubt I won't be buying this. I am most excited by Nintendo these days and even Microsoft has me more engaged at the moment and they have been pretty poor in recent years.

£700. Lolz. Or £850 if you want the stand and disc drive (and I absolutely would need the disc drive). Utterly ridiculous price.

I also feel that it just isn't needed. We haven't seen what the regular PS5 is fully capable of yet because so many people are still using a PS4.
