Exactly the cause of my reticence. I was hoping to give it a good test in the beta but of course it comes out the weekend I'm away 😄 but hopefully you lot will play it and give some feedback as I want to get it and I want to love it.

    Battlefield 6

It's definitely a good game for Call of Duty players and ones that didn't play Battlefield in its golden era. Another small, linear urban map released today which means we've literally played half the original maps available in the final game and we are yet to actually see a true battlefield. I will probably pick this up for the campaign and because I can still get 20-30 hours out of the multiplayer but I honestly can see myself getting bored as Conquest plays more like domination and matches just blur into one. I went back to Battlefield 4 last year and it was just breathtaking how spectacular everything is even to this day. The map variety, quality and mechanics made for one hell of an experience that has never been repeated, not even in Battlefield since. I'm hopeful this game can get close to those glory days and it has come a long way after the travesty of 2042 but if they end up losing 80% of their players to Call of Duty a month later then a lot of their design choices will have been in vain at the expense of loyal fans.

    Battlefield 6

I've pretty much watched all the content creators thoughts post-beta and without the sponsorships and it seems a lot of them share similar feelings. To sum it up briefly:- - the game looks great and is mechanically decent - gunplay feels good - the game is very fast paced - gameplay has devolved more into Call of Duty and they will sacrifice logic and series values to appeal to those players as a priority - vehicles don't feel great and they don't work effectively on the smaller style maps - maps are too compact, linear, mostly urban, lack elevation and play too similarly - the squad system may as well not exist from a tactical or strategic standpoint - sniper glint may need to be toned down - classes are plied with too many weapons and gear that completely devalue choice and impact - destruction looks impressive but it doesn't radically change anything and is inconsistent (the upcoming new beta map has huge issues with the latter apparently) The class system needs a total overhaul IMO - the fact Assault can carry a primary, a shotgun, a rocket launcher, flashbangs, a deployable shield grenades and a stim is just ridiculous and almost Treyarch levels of generosity. This devalues the class choice completely and makes you stupidly overpowered. Also sod the shield and stim - that bollocks belongs in COD. Knee sliding and and tac sprint was rejected so not sure why the stim made it. The shield is acceptable I guess. I don't think any Battlefield or FPS fan wanted something fresh - they just wanted Battlefield back i.e 2,3 and 4 especially after the disappointments of BFV and 2042. BF6 achieves that to a degree, but then let's itself down with some questionable design and strange conceptual choices. This is also what happens every time with Battlefield - Call of Duty fucks up spectacularly and then Battlefield fails to capitalise with some surprise errors and misses an open goal. Everyone then leaves Battlefield after a month and returns to COD irrespective of how garbage it is that year. Whilst it's great to see how far the game and series has come under the new leadership in such a short space of time, it would be very disappointing to see the game make easily avoidable mistakes and brainless design choices like 2042 did. The community have spent well over a year helping build BF6 and this is off of 3 years of relentless feedback on 2042 so when the developers go against the grain and dominant advice, it can alienate the community a lot worse than if it was just bad independent choices.

    Battlefield 6

Battlefield trailers are always 'carnage' but the series at its core is a grand FPS with tactical elements. There is no semblance of this in the game - it's just overly-chaotic action on very small maps where flags change hands easily and territory doesn't matter because you can be easily swarmed left, right and centre. They've appealed to the Call of Duty players at the expense of Battlefield's core values and have concocted this middle-ground type of game and I'm just not sure about it. The bigger maps will probably play better like Operation Firestorm but the ones we have in the beta are just too small, chokepoint-laden and offer absolutely no tactical flexibility or POI.

    Battlefield 6

I'm definitely more confident about this one especially as most people who made 2042 have long left the company and proper and proven developers were brought in instead. I knew instantly that 2042 would be a catastrophe because it had no campaign, no squad system, no voice chat, no scoreboard, 128 players, barely any guns, no server browser, no stat tracking, stupid specialists, map-changing levolution replaced with temporarily inconvenient weather effects, awful interface, no rush, TDM or dom, no progression, overly-large and empty maps and bot-filled lobbies. It was literally the most anti-Battlefield game imaginable and clear the developers didn't have a clue what the series was about or what they were doing. They were removing staples of the series and the genre without any logic. My only worry with BF6 is if it leans too far into COD. We desperately need these big BF4-style tactical maps.

Yeah i dunno about this still, 2042 left a bad taste, partly the shitty launch but also that no-one gave it much of a chance. I bought it and played it mostly solo and would've been fun if others had bothered with it. If the single player campaign is good then maybe after launch I'll pick it up. I have Tarkov for my shooter needs, I don't see any game better than that right now 🙂

According to a credible leak, two additional maps coming at launch will be bigger which is good news. We already know Operation Firestorm is a good size so all eyes on the remaining two. Hopefully these bigger environments aren't too cluttered so land vehicles can breathe and we have some channels to work into. I hope Eastwood isn't lifted from the battle royale mode though. Played a game on OF earlier and it was epic. This is proper Battlefield and I never really experienced that feeling in the beta

I'll be picking it up, mostly for the single player tbh and I want to see reviews of that first too before I spend a penny. I'm too invested in Tarkov these days but who knows, if the FG community play it a lot maybe I'll consider picking it up early. The latest map isn't a big one imo and I'm annoyed they didn't put one into the beta, annoyed and suspicious.

    Battlefield 6

I think the game is worthwhile to buy as it will get some hours ploughed into it. I do agree though that's more because there aren't many games that really shine of late (you could extend that to over 12-18 months). Its a game that really needs multiple squads working together, not just your squad. We were busting a gut last night to win a conquest game on the new big map for this weekends beta and it was such a struggle to keep up with the opposition. King of the Hill worked relatively well last night, although feels like that's more for the CoD players coming across. I wonder how much of the game they are holding back for official launch. Maybe it'll have a rocky start due to the playerbase but you can see there is a good foundation for a game here and certainly one that will grow in time. Btw, whats the advantage of being anything other than Assault or Medic? Couldn't see what difference the other roles were performing so far in the Beta.

He's not far off and seems pretty inline with what some have said and I agree, if I'd never played BF4 then this game so far would look pretty good but this game is imo what the result would be if cod and battlefield had a baby and that's unfortunate. Maps are what make and break an FPS game first and foremost and they had an opportunity and the blueprint but unfortunately something was lost along the way. I will still buy this as the winter is long and it will kill a few hours but it can't hold a candle to BF4.

I am glad someone feel's this way, it was madness, you spawn in, you are in combat within a couple of seconds and fighting for your life. That's fine in the sense it is quick and you are straight into action but that's not entirely battlefield, Battlefield has always been a game you have been able to influence and turn the tide by getting a great flank or creaping behind enemy lines to capture a base to the rear. The games of Conquest I played and the points were constantly changing and it was a little disorienting. The game is better than the last one and I could see me playing this but more because I prefer this over COD, that's not to say COD is bad or anything and I played it with FG socially really but for a long time it has not been a series for me.

    Battlefield 6

I gave it a go, the guy's I play battlefield with are generally loving it, I don't feel quite the same way, with COD being in a lull I can see this taking some of the players from there so will improve the longevity of the series however This feels like a middle ground between Battlefield and Call of Duty, the gameplay is fast, the maps I have played so far are very infantry focused, you spawn in almost in combat. The vehicle play was limited again and unlike previous games a tank did not feel like something to be afraid of, 1 well placed RPG could take it out.

So SBMM has been mentioned and all of the COD fans are absolutely losing their shit 🤣 The system that COD currently uses seems to have given COD players serious PTSD whenever SBMM is mentioned. They just assume that it will be the same shitty system that COD uses. In reality SBMM has been in BF for absolutely ages and it's only used to balance the teams.

I'm fairly interested in this. It may be the kick in the ass I need to get back into online shooters. I also heard today that they're using a kernel-based anti-cheat for BF6. The one streamer I was watching was down for it, but some of his chatters were being pissy.

The online PC space is plagued with cheaters, I used to find it funny in DayZ as you'd get scripture being quite imaginative, making the sky rain with animals and stuff like that but using it to win games or to look like you're good at a game, just sad imo In Tarkov it got so annoying, dying to cheaters made me go PVE. Though tbf im playing it more than ever as a result of that...

These people should be banned for life, it blows my mind they get invited to these events (then again its EA after all, not exactly known for having any integrity either), and by their very existence these cheaters ruin the experience for everyone else, fucking weasels 🙃

  39. I finished The Final Shape today and enjoyed most of it. I certainly liked the location more than Neptune as it felt more Destiny-like. The story was also more interesting and characters less irritating although The Witness did waffle on a bit too much. Fortunately this happens mostly on the fly so you aren't stalled too much. I did find some of the puzzles painfully easy but some of the firefights were less intuitive. The campaign flowed really well until step 29, where you are then plied with over an hour of annoying busywork that lacks substance and it just feels tacked-on. The conclusion which was a big-raid type finale was also very disappointing after what was a promising build-up in the hours previous. The Zavala storyline as mentioned by Sennex was just a weird inclusion out of nowhere - still I prefer this than having to suffer Osiris and Nimbus again though. The bit towards the end where you rally your team which consists of tedium and silly mechanics pissed me off the most though - getting blitzed from all directions whilst reflecting and matching up balls of light to ritual sites was so stupid. I just wanted to carry on but all of this felt like they were stringing out the content for an extra hour and 15.

  43. Paul Tassi with another great article: Destiny 2’s Power Leveling And Loot System Is The Worst It’s Ever Been WWW.FORBES.COM Destiny 2 has a significant problem with how power works with loot in The Edge of Fate, and it's created a terrible situation. -------- From the article ----------- Accuse me of being overly negative about the state of Destiny 2 if you want, but there have been so many backward and baffling decisions in The Edge of Fate that it actively makes me upset, given how long I’ve played and loved this game. Right now, the combination of how power level and loot farming interact in Destiny 2 is the worst I’ve ever seen. Sure, actual loot itself has been much worse (remember fixed roll days?), but how you power and get loot is simply inexcusable, and I have no idea how this system was designed. The longer this expansion goes, the more clear it becomes. Destiny 2 is now nothing more than a slow crawl through 450 levels of power with loot being a side-effect of hitting those marks, rather than a true chase.

The gameplay coming from the test environment looks very good especially from a mechanics standpoint. Looks quite refined now plus there's cool things like being able to drag and heal injured team mates for revive. Definitely seems much closer to BF4 and 2042 but I hope there are larger maps that aren't as chaotic and bloated with effects. Who would've thought that ex-COD developers would save Battlefield lol!

I'm hoping this is basically BF4 2.0. That is IMO the best BF to date. They're doing a big MP reveal event on July 31st and leaks suggest the beta will launch straight afterwards or the following weekend. The also accidentally gave away the release date which is October 10th.

Beyond Light I seemed to fly through in about 6 hours even with 34 quest steps but this one you really seem to get bang for your buck as every mission seems detailed, challenging and lasts longer than 15 minutes.
