  4. Now that 2024 is here, I thought it would be fun to have a little Forever Gaming competition! I haven’t come up with a fancy name yet so I’m just calling it the OpenCritic Challenge 2024! The concept is simple, everyone who wants to take part predicts what they think the final OpenCritic score of the below list of games will be. Each player gets points based on how close their prediction is. The scoring system goes like this: Exact score - 5 points 1 score away - 3 points 2 scores away - 2 points 3 scores away - 1 point 10 or more points away - -2 points! For example, if you had predicted that Alan Wake 2 would score a 90 on OpenCritic, you would receive 3 points, as it scored an 89. Similarly, if you had predicted it would score a 78, you would lose 2 points. For those who may be unfamiliar with OpenCritic, it is a website that collects review scores from all the major review outlets and calculates an aggregate score. Hopefully there will be some interest to join in with this, I have listed the 2024 releases below, just copy and paste the list and add your scores. I will keep score and keep you updated throughout the year. If a game on the list ends up being delayed to 2025, we will just remove it from the predictions. Obviously there will be games coming out this year that haven’t been announced yet, if every participant is happy to do so we can add them in as and when they are announced and we can submit our predictions then. I haven’t added remasters, as chances our they will score similarly to their original release and becomes too easy to predict. Remakes have been included if they are a substantial enough remake, for example the Final Fantasy Rebirth game is a significant remake. Feel free to let me know if you disagree and we can collectively decide to remove them or add other ones. I am going to be recording a video for my YouTube channel discussing my predictions, if it’s ok with you I will discuss some other predictions as well as mine to make it interesting. If you would rather me not mention your predictions (I would only be using your username from the site, no real names) then just let me know when you submit your predictions. This is just for fun, no awards for winning. Unless anyone can think of a good idea for the prize, maybe a new Forever Gaming Badge? Last point, as the first game on this list releases on February 2nd, all entries will need to be submitted by the 28th January (I don’t think reviews for Suicide Squad will be out until 29th at the earliest). Also worth pointing out I haven’t added every single game releasing, there’s just too many! Here is the list, I will submit my predictions below. Good Luck! Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League - Foamstars - Helldivers 2 - Skull and Bones - Final Fantasy VII Rebirth - Alone in the Dark - Dragons Dogma 2 - Princess Peach: Showtime - Rise of the Ronin - South Park: Snow Day - Black Myth: Wukong - STALKER 2: Heart of Chernobyl - Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2 - Star Wars Outlaws - Little Nightmares 3 - Avowed - Towerborne - Hellblade 2: Senuas Saga - Indiana Jones -

  5. So, out of curiosity and with remakes and remasters being front and centre of most new releases. If you could have a true remake of any video game (and it has yet to be done) what would it be? There are 2 for me, Final Fantasy IX (and there are rumours of this) and Skull Caps, the latter being a strategy game that I loved for a spell when I was younger. It was simple and great fun to play!

    Palworld

Just been released in early access and has garnered a significant 370,000 concurrent players. Released in early access on Steam at 10% off costing £22.49; it appears to be an open world multiplayer pokemon-style game. Could be the new Valheim

  7. Games for me have lost their way. The lust for bigger worlds, betterererer graphics and realism. Even sonic lost its charm in a 3D world. Would games find their magic if they were constrained by older tech, could innovation and retro collide to make a gaming future where you don't download updates? Multiplayer on the net only, no DLC, no payment plans. Sounds good to me.

  8. Sadly I can't see Sega ever making a comeback in mainstream console terms. The company just doesn't have anywhere near enough money required to even fulfil global hardware production and distribution let alone produce an array of new games. They've been acting as a publisher for way too long whilst the likes of Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft have been capitalising on massive revenues along with research and development. If Sega were to throw together a machine, it would likely be off-the-shelf hardware and all a bit desperate. They are however looking to revive a few classic franchises so that's worth keeping an eye on. With Nintendo adopting a lot of bad modern day practices, I've kinda lost a lot of hope and things like DLC, subscriptions, live services and DRM is pretty much engrained in the industry. If Microsoft and Ubisoft keep pushing, the next generation of consoles could see us not even being able to buy or own games outright - it'll all be subscriptions and other bullshit.

  9. Opposing Force and Blue Shift are being remade with Valve's approval similarly to how Black Mesa was done. Operation: Black Mesa on Steam STORE.STEAMPOWERED.COM Experience the Half-Life™ expansion packs like never before. Operation: Black Mesa features reimaginings of both Half-Life™ Opposing Force and Half-Life™ Blue Shift through two unique campaigns. How will you...

  10. Thanks for the submissions so far! Quite interesting how different some of our scores are! Now that we’ve seen the Indiana Jones gameplay trailer, I’m pretty happy with my prediction! I think I have gone too high on Avowed though!

  11. Good choices, that said I think 10 still holds up fairly well today with the PS4 remaster ^_^ Have played it a couple of times since the original launch.

  18. Rather than choosing my favourite and most iconic classic, I'm gonna select ones that would benefit and warrant more of a remaster. I'll also avoid games where I wouldn't be confident in finding a developer that could do the original justice. I'd firstly say Command and Conquer: Generals. Shocked this hasn't been remastered or remade to a degree as it's a rare RTS that combines real world elements and is still immensely popular. EA gave us a solid remastering of the original and Red Alert almost 4 years ago but nothing since. Even a basic remaster with QoL changes and modern support would be huge and a massive win for the genre. Lastly I will choose Resident Evil Code Veronica. I am confident this will be announced soon and it's the next logical one in Capcom's largely successful reboots. CV was a great game back on the Dreamcast and a huge step up visually compared to the likes of RE2 on the PS1. It had some massive flaws but these could easily be rectified. Those two I would be very happy with and that's about it off the top of my head. Max Payne 1 & 2 are confirmed in development by Remedy now which is absolutely huge as the series is coming home to a developer who is getting better and better. I would've said that otherwise as long as Rockstar had no business in it but they are in the works it seems.

  20. This could be fun, I wonder if @GazzaGarratt could do this as a prediction league through the FG site as well? I think mine would be - Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League - 64 Foamstars - 72 Helldivers 2 - 86 - I think this will be a surprise hit Skull and Bones - 74 Final Fantasy VII Rebirth - 86 It will do well but I feel like the series is riding on it's highs of yesteryear still. Alone in the Dark - 68 Dragons Dogma 2 - 84 Princess Peach: Showtime - 88 (Again it will do well cuz nintendo fanboys I think) Rise of the Ronin - 78 South Park: Snow Day - 72 Black Myth: Wukong - 82 STALKER 2: Heart of Chernobyl - 80 Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2 - 75 Star Wars Outlaws - 90 Little Nightmares 3 - 80 Avowed - 78 Towerborne - 76 Hellblade 2: Senuas Saga - 88 Indiana Jones - 78

@MrBiron if you plan an FG event or something I would be interested. I gave it a go with 2 friends last night and it's actually quite good fun, we even won a few matches as the night went on! I must admit, it is chaotic at times but it is great fun dropping bombs and such on buildings with enemy players in and just watching it collapse around them!

  24. Watched Napoleon at the weekend, I was going to see it at the cinema but after watching critical drinkers review decided not to. This turned out to be the correct decision as in some parts I was just bored. I'd have preferred more of his campaigns etc and less Josephine bull shit.

It seems a hit with some online, which is impressive given it has virtually no marketing whatsoever. Gigz who used to play Destiny PvP raves about it a hell of a lot.
