From a MU piece on the BBC. The second last sentence made me think and feel for Phil…. Oh the other thing was the handheld drop, I think they were hoping that it would be a big deal and I really don't see much of a market for it. I am all for handhelds and heck my Switch get's played a lot but a handheld that is limited to your home where you typically have the option of playing on a big screen with a fancy audio set up just seems to have a bit of a niche market to me?

I am siding with Phil a little on this one, it was somewhat lacklustre and a lot of the games are all due to come to Xbox as well. Final Fantasy XVI, I am a big fan of the series but the one thing I never really asked for was devil may cry fantasy XVI. Yes it might have fantastic looking summons and skill trees and such but this dashing about, teleporting crap is just not for me. I will likely play it and it will have an opportunity to at least find a place on my Final Fantasy shelf but it will need to have a good story (which I feel the last couple have lacked somewhat). Spiderman 2 looked good but it did largely look more of the same with some new combat mechanics, that said it sounds like the story could be good with a potential fight between Miles and Peter at some point? I won't say too much more in here and save it for the individual game threads 🙂 But yeah I wasn't overly impressed with this showcase and I do think in part it is just the industry being somewhat stagnated, I did not really see many next gen looking games, where is the use of the processing power to create more intelligent ai or where is the use of all the fancy aspects of the PS5 controller we saw in Astrobot? I am finding a lot of my enjoyment of games at the moment relating to the PSP / PS Vita / PS3 / 360 era which is largely down to it's variety.

I feel for Harry Kane. No offense to Tottenham, Kane is going to be one of those great players who didn't win anything. After he hangs up his boots, he will have very little trophies and memories to look back on. Working his arse off for years and just not achieving a lot. Again no hate to Spurs....

The Starship Troopers game on PC is in early access and comes from a mod of tactical shooter Squad. It looks amazing and I'll definitely be playing it!

Now this actually did get my interest, in part because on tik tok the past week or so I have seen a lot of Starship troopers footage with there being a new game on pc (16 player co-op as well apparently if FG fancies giving it a go?) That said I thought this looked kind of cool, definitely a different style to the original game and it looks to have a bigger budget. The first game did quite well but it was partly due to PS Plus so can this sustain the success?

🤣🤣 This is why I love you ❤️ The good thing on this conversation is I can geniunely say I very much disliked PlayStation when the Xbox came out and really wanted to stay on that side of things forever. I was completely devastated when they ruined their far away lead with the Xbox One and never thought I'd own a PS4. Weird how things work out now after all this time. I'm pretty confident Xbox will come good once again but just not yet; probably at least 2-3 years methinks because its always about the games and friends that can play those games. Thats understandable and would agree that on some I don't have much to offer other than 'it looks decent' because its so early. But I do enjoy seeing other peoples thoughts here than anywhere else. I can get hyped just by other FGers being excited for something to come out and its probably how I ended up on many games over the past years rather than me seeing it and just wanting it straight off the bat. Good, I LOVE being a big kid 😁 and you wouldn't enjoy me being a responsible adult either 😎 Out of it all though, I really hope you can get into Marathon. I loved those early days when people talked about Destiny and worked out what to expect and what would they hope to see/enjoy in the game. Thats the one for me out of them all that blows the rest of the previews of the water this early.

Absolute load of crap apparently. Prime example of a film that didn't need to be made or a story that needed to be told. Biggest gripe I have with these new Indy films is that they've lost the charm that the original trilogy had. The CGI in this one looks utterly shocking with its cartoony style and poorly done effects. That alone kills it for me - at least in the older films they were ingenious in dealing with tech limitations and stunts were done for real. The new ones just seem so lazy and artificial with a reliance on special effects. Such a wasted opportunity. If they went back to basics instead of going for these vastly exaggerated scenes then it would at least give the series back some style even with Ford being about 96 years old. The story doesn't seem to have any purpose either and doesn't do anything other that give Jones another adventure that he didn't need to go on. Another landmark franchise trashed by Disney.

Sterling and Dier have had miserable seasons so glad they've been overlooked although I'm surprised Maddison has been given a chance as he's had a dreadful campaign. Kalvin Phillips has probably played about an hour this entire season so his selection is a bit questionable. Other than that, we look pretty decent and it's great to see players like Bellingham, Eze and Rice come on a bundle this year.

Another game that's been revealed from the 2023 Playstation Showcase. We should probably call this Starship Troopers really shouldn't we? 😎 First one was an underrated third party game from what I recall and this looks like they wanting to build hard on that success. Coming to PS5 and PC. Thoughts everyone?

I think he should leave in the summer and if he's destined to win something, it will be with someone else. Best for all parties IMO. Can't fault his loyalty over the years especially with the topsy-turvy nature of ownership and management of the club. Harry has had his chances to win things though - 3 cup finals with Spurs, a few semis and the Euro 2020 final and he's failed to perform in each one and not scored either. I actually think his 'big game' performances have been very costly when it's mattered but then again, he's partly the reason why they got there in the first place. Just wish he had that extra conviction.

So being a big Final Fantasy game, the first thing that jumps out at me is that this looks more Devil May Cry (not surprising as I think the design lead actually started and had a successful career with devil may cry). It's fine if that is what you want. It looks brilliant visually and has some of the aspects you would expect, summons etc. Controlling other players, you have only ever been able to control one person but you could historically give commands to others in your team even as late as FFXV I think from memory. So to remove that seems odd but then it looks more fast paced than previous games so you likely won't have the time to spend giving out orders. I think this is going to divide fans, those who like the old school combat systems (this includes myself) and those who aren't bothered by it. I think with this series they have spent a lot of time trying to appeal the modern games to more Western mainstream audiences and the series has lost some of it's character for it. If you compare this, XV and XIII to XII and previous there has been a big shift in the style of the games and it seems too big a shift for fans of earlier titles. I will play this (and likely buy it second hand as sales direct to Sony will only encourage their current style of FF games), but it need's to have a great story I think for me to enjoy it, the combat won't carry it for me. It's mad because if you look at their highest ranked games of the past 10 years, the recent Final Fantasy games don't even make a dent and yet they continue to push this direction. Games like Triangle Strategy, Dragon Quest XI, Octopath traveller and Bravely default go down extremely well with the fans.

I watched this one and I couldn't help but feel like this will be about £5 around 3-4 months after launch, it's nice to see EA trying to create something new but just because it has fancy colours and lighting whizzing about the screen does not mean it will be a good game. Combat need's to be much more engaging in games like this these day's. I don't think it will be one I am buying unfortunately.

When this was announced I thought it really odd, it's a game no one has ever asked for. Gollum has never been a particularly exciting character and whilst sneaking games have a place if you are going to be in the lord of the rings world you want to be killing hundreds of orcs, knocking them off castle walls and all that stuff. That said I wouldn't be surprised if the two towers and return of the king games get remade at some point.

Console games are mostly made for kids I suppose and not the likes of me, so I shouldn't be surprised 😥😁

I suppose it depends on where your expectations were beforehand to whether or not you get over, under or just whelmed 😄 I went in not expecting a world of games because lets face it, even though we're 3 years into a new generation, it stills feels early as the game developing world just wasn't ready for it. I would say next years list of games for back end of 2024 and 2025 should be seriously pushing some of the limits we've already seen. But given that was my stance, and then seeing multiple games showing off some colourful and graphically pleasing FPS games, I think it was a solid presentation. Not amazeballs granted, but enough in there way above what Microsoft and other places have shown this year. I realise more and more everyday that its all about where your mindset is when these things get dropped nowadays.

I know it's only against Malta and Macedonia, so no massive deal, but I think he's right to leave out people like Sterling and Dier and bring in players in better form. However I still don't really understand how people in great form like Tomori, Gibbs-White, etc miss out to people like Maguire and Kalvin Phillips who don't even play every week 🤔
