Upcoming FG Summer Updates! Achievements, Push Notifications and more!
J4MES OX4D and 9 others reacted to GazzaGarratt for a topic
We're alive....and free hopefully!! The last few months has been hopefully more uplifting for you all as we enter many places nearing the end of some/most social distancing rules and also with the fantastic run the English side were on throughout the whole of Euro 2020 (in 2021, still can't get over the name not changing!). We're also entering holiday season for many of us across the world too and I think it'll be good to get some fresh air and experience some of the places we haven't been able to the past 18 months. That being said, there's a few things upcoming at FG to keep an eye out for as we go under some significant changes I've wanted for many years. Achievements/Ranks/Gamerscore I've wanted some form of an FG Gamerscore for a while as an incentive to make things fun and interesting when you come back to the Home of FG, as well as having fun online in FG Games. With the next software update, we'll imminently have a new ranking system that links to points. Some might remember I tried a while back but didn't quite work as there wasn't enough resources at the time. Now, we can take advantage of some cool updates that are all integrated with the Home of FG. A sneak peak of how things will start to look are below. This is something that will help us all realise there's always been way more to FG than just a few forum posts. 'Levelling Up' with FG can actually be a real possibility which i'm super hyped for! Medals/Badges With brand new ranks and levels to chase, come Medals to earn. You could argue its similar to Triumphs on many games we play mentioning no names *Desti..cough cough*. These will be things that you can earn that will give bonus points that goes towards your overall FG Gamerscore. Some will be very basic, like opening post, creating topics, and just by visiting FG everyday but some might make you look across FG, creating interesting stuff for all to see, maybe in Videos, Quizzes, Polls, etc. Equally, I want to create Medals to earn that are a part of the joy we bring online with us all. We have some featured FG Games already and would love to expand on this over time. For example, we could have some that relate to our GT Sport league races, FIFA Monday Night Football, Destiny Raid Nights and of course, any games we play on FG Fridays. These are supposed to be cool things to chase for fun and show off between us all and the more we can make, the more exciting it will be to interact and get around all the games we play together. These will also show on your profile and I intend to have a page where you can find descriptions of Medals you can earn. Please be aware though....there will be hidden ones you'll have to find! Maybe checking other people's profiles over time will help you work out what's achievable! Push Notifications to Mobile devices This one makes me happy beyond belief. I think one thing is noticeable that many like to be nudged by a pop up on their phone if they've been tagged or quoted somewhere or maybe even if they've received a reaction. It reminds us that FG is around as it can slip people's minds sometimes as we have our normal lives to deal with. Notifications can be switched on so you'll need to accept to receive push notifications for your mobile, once live. The only restriction i've been made aware of is (as usual) is Safari on Apple devices. I mean, you should be downloading Chrome anyway these days, even on Apple devices because Safari kills souls over time. More details to follow on how to make sure you get all the notifications! Homepage link for mobile devices In conjunction with the notifications, you should get opportunity to add FG as a homepage on your phone. This will make FG look and feel exactly like an App would and far better than the Tapatalk one we had in the past. You can then also see notifications linked to it, like your apps do. I really want as many of us to take up these so you don't miss out on any FG action and it helps me not have to nag/nudge/annoy the crap out of you on other platforms! In other news..... We also have some amazing FGFGF news we can now share as some of you already know, which will highlight how important you all are to continuing to donate to the cause of making people smile and feel good. We have GT Sport Summer Season starting this week and want as many to turn up each week to enjoy the fun and learn where we can FG Fridays will be back up in advance on the Event Calendar so we can all make sure to nudge your best FGer and get them to get online where we can - the aim has to be a huge 20-30 plus lobby of all of us on the games we now have to offer (Fall Guys, Bomberman, Among Us, Battlefield 5, Wreckfest, GTA Races, CoD MW Remastered) Raids every week on Destiny for anyone that wants help and just all round general fun running more and more of them More regular Quizzes to play! There's probably more (there always is!) but i've probably worn you out with the essay as usual 😄 All i'll ask is to be patient with us over the next 4 weeks as you see things subtely changing and there may be some down time as we update many of the applications and software we have behind the scenes. It'll be all worth the wait i'm sure! Let me know what you think of the updates, and if there are any medals/badges you wanna see we could give out drop the ideas below, you never know as we have LOADS to make!! GGFG ❤️10 points -

Assassins Creed Valhalla - 50 hours in and struggling
GazzaGarratt and 2 others reacted to J4MES OX4D for a topic
Firstly, congratulations for making it to 50 hours. I lasted barely 20 hours in Origins before it became absolute torture to play. This latest breed of AC games are basically way too big with the story spread thin across a huge landscape in which the map has to be bloated with mundane tasks for filler. Not only that, Ubisoft introduced RPG level-gating which meant players had to endure these side missions to be able to play the story....or pay them £10 for boosters where you didn't have to play parts of the game instead. The gameplay is also dumbed-down to the extremes with x-ray vision, no fall damage, being able to scale huge climbs in seconds and also really basic combat. Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla are basically the same game with slightly different skins. The developers could've easily reduced the game by two thirds, removed any level gating or given the player a choice on XP scaling. There are so many users who are being alienated by this game design who would love to play it and experience DLC in the future but they are being held back by the exhausting and nauseating gameplay format. If Ubisoft scrapped boosters and scaled the games down then they would be much better experiences. The series is basically a live service and Ubisoft last week confirmed that this is how it will be going forward for all future AC titles so expect more of the same. It's a shame because AC2 and Black Flag were superb titles. The series is perfect for players who don't mind the same monotonous grind every day for two months straight but for me, the AC games have become some of the most painful out there and the devs don't seem to understand that bigger doesn't always mean better. Aside from any narrative, what you see in these games within the first 20 minutes is what you get throughout.3 points -

What level is "Prestige"? Joking, but really cool ideas and things getting implemented here. Most people enjoy a grind or leveling up process. It's exciting to have new things added and for people to achieve.2 points -

Assassins Creed Valhalla - 50 hours in and struggling
GazzaGarratt and one other reacted to Antpool84 for a topic
@J4MES OX4D i have to agree with you, whereas the older AC games were set across 3 or 4 cities that were always bustling with activity, now they have made them so massive it is just filled with random side quests for the sake of them so you can get your XP up to carry on. Combat has come down to pretty much button mashing with most enemies. I really want to enjoy the game and get through it but with so many better open world titles available its a struggle.2 points -
Cyberpunk 2077 - First Impressions
phil bottle and one other reacted to GazzaGarratt for a topic
Yep, Phil is right, @Antpool84 however I have been trying out the PS4 version on the PS5. It runs smoothly, even though there are parts it has to still load. If i'm brutally honest, the story and start of the game just doesn't grip me one bit. So when the story doesn't grip you, you hope to fall back on good gameplay and solid basic features, but the gunplay I find is one of the worst i've tried in a FPS - granted, i'm spoilt by things like Halo and Overwatch for good FOS movement and shooting but still, I didn't expect it to be as poor as it was. The one thing that kept me going was the Cyberpunk world. Its absolutely gorgeous and stunning. Probably in the top 3 sandboxes I've ever seen in a game. I wanted to love it and get engrossed in it in readiness for the PS5 version but I don't think its worth it i'm afraid. Better to get a cheap second hand PS4 version from wherever you can.2 points -

My days as a real cop draw to an end...
slamminbones reacted to Docwagon for a topic
I've gotten the unofficial word I'm making LT day after tomorrow and will be going back to Investigations. I'll be taking over the Domestic Violence unit, an office of 15 detectives and 2 sergeants. I'll be a M-F day shift office drone driving a desk with my ass all day. My wife says it'll be fun. It won't be fun. But, it's the first time in...18 years or so I've had a M-F job. I don't know how long I'll have this office, as I'm likely to be offered the next opening in Homicide. I still won't be a real cop again, but I'll at least see them on occasion. 😄 I'm glad to be promoted but it's bittersweet. Being a field sergeant has been the best job I've ever had. I'll miss it. I won't miss wearing the armor or gun belt.1 point -
Assassins Creed Valhalla - 50 hours in and struggling
GazzaGarratt reacted to Antpool84 for a topic
So i'm 50 hours into Assassins Creed Valhalla and honestly starting to struggle to keep going. For the first 20 to 30 hours i was loving exploring the world and levelling up, but as its gone on i've found it harder to stay invested in the story, and things like the raiding element that started off as enjoyable i'm now finding repetitive. The open world is huge but there a lot of the areas are pretty plain and i've ended up riding my horse from point to point without encountering anything other than dears and wolves. As much as it is pretty awesome playing as a viking, i don't find Eivor as interesting to play as previous protagonists in the series. I used to love the Assassins Creed games and completed a lot of the early games, but hadn't played one in full since Black Flag, so was hoping that this would reignite my love for the series, and although on the whole the game plays well, it feels much more like a generic action rpg than an Assassins Creed game as I have yet to find any consequence to not using stealth and just going into an area and killing all the enemies. I don't know whether taking a break from it and playing something else for a while will help, so it feels fresher when i come back to it. Has anyone else found this or is it just me?1 point -

Hah. To be fair, since @TurboR56Mini 's and @Tar-Eruntalion 's massive, beautiful, and collective structures are not around, the lag isn't terrible. I haven't really terraformed anything for that purpose, which also contributes to the lag. Resources have been brought to the area, and the only things removed are trees and rocks that are in the way. Building the two big structures by barely leveling anything has been an interesting challenge lol. There is a framerate drop near the main structure, but that's about it 😄 ... mostly because I haven't properly redistributed the wolves from their pen to another area.1 point -

It does take a while for the shooting to get good, skills and better weapons improve it no end. I was worried to begin with but it does get better to the point where its very enjoyable. But I agree, on console it feels weak from the limited amount I've played on the Pro. The story - I play as nomad - is very slow to start with too but once a specific event happens it really kicks off. How far did you get @GazzaGarratt? Did you go far enough to meet Keanu?1 point -

200 wolves might be vastly underestimating them... I'm working on a "Rest Point" in the north end of the sanctuary, and for whatever reason, that is now surrounded by at least 50 wolves. I thought it would be interesting to build a place that went with the slope of the mountain...1 point -

Friends! My wolf sanctuary's wall is now complete! May all the wolves and cubs enjoy the safety of the meadows without fear of a wayward Fuling or agitating a Lox. There is still some danger from the Deathsquitos coming over the walls, but overall, the danger to the growing pack has been greatly lessened. There is now enough (more than enough) wolves to fend off any raids that may occur within the walls. A few may perish in their battle, but the sacrifice of 3 - 5 wolves for the whole pack, of probably over 200 wolves, is worth it. I'll be tweaking things in here... I want to try to create paths to each entrance and rest point. I might double up the walls. We'll see.1 point -

I thought the reveal was fantastic. Even the countdown to it. I found myself turning around from my computer to just look at the TV. The thought behind just the countdown to the event shows that Guerrilla is in this 1000% percent. They've done their pivot from the Killzone game series to this incredible piece. Each scene shown in the countdown was well thought out. It showed different times of the day. I haven't even dared to look at fan theories about what all the numbers at the bottom of each "camera" was in connection to what Guerrilla was posting on social media about each scene (Tenakth clan villages). Then, when it was time for the reveal, the switch from the cinematic parts to the gameplay was so smooth. They did not show too much about the gameplay menu, so either it was purposely not shown, or it's an option to only see certain things like health, inventory, etc. when touching the touchpad, or you choose to have it on/off completely. They showed the new tools they are giving Aloy. The glider, which would have saved my ass many times from when I fell off high places; the breathing apparatus to allow Aloy to swim underwater for an unlimited amount of time; these were the most memorable for me. It looks like they listened to some quality-of-life comments from players of the first game. If you recall in the first game, you knew where you could "climb" if the item/edge/ledge was bright yellow. However, sometimes, this was not entirely clear given how the light in the game was. There was a time I was in a building for a solid 30 minutes because I didn't know how to climb up to a certain area. Frustrating but still satisfying to me. Now, they are allowing Aloy's Focus (earpiece) to highlight what's climbable. This is super helpful. The new weapons are going to be exciting to unlock and use. More types of arrows. For my type of gameplay, it absolutely works. I'm a "shoot from a distance" player. This is why I'm always a mage or a warlock or anything with long distance in games. They did not forget those who are more aggressive. They showed more moves with the spear, and you can now pick up dropped weapons from enemies and use it. I think that type of immersive world factor is something to be applauded, and I hope more of that is to be seen in other games. Towards the end of the gameplay, the artifact that was found displayed a map. I'm highly curious on what that means. There are two dots in the Gulf of Mexico, but this game takes place on the west coast of the US. Is this a bit of foreshadowing on the next game? I don't know. But, I'm excited. We can get into the "headlines" of this game being about how Aloy looks, and I will tell you that I did not notice much of anything except that everything was rendered beautifully. I can go in-depth on my simmering anger about toxic guys being all "Aloy doesn't look like eye candy"... meanwhile, no one is talking about how Eren isn't a visual catch... but he's a guy, so he gets a pass. I could, and I happily will if someone wants to go there. But, all in all, the game looks amazing. I think @Bluebear is just as excited as I am about it. On the side, I'm hoping that Horizon Zero Dawn and God of War are not Sony's swan songs to actually supporting indie studios and games that need support to be something great. God of War is only great now, it was not a great initial game. Guerrilla's Killzone games were not anything to sing about, but they now have Horizon. Let's hope that Sony has not completely lost their way.. and if their current thinking is just a misstep, let's hope they find their way back.1 point
