I have all the DLC's but you don't really need any of them as the core free updates make up the meat of the improvements and the DLC usually just adds minor things such as new races or gameplay features that aren't a necessity. Paradox's content policy is rather confusing and complex especially to unfamiliar players as the DLC's can be tied in with the new updates. Many people are enraged by the developers holding back essential gameplay mechanics behind DLC paywalls on games like Europa Universalis IV but with Stellaris it's not half as bad as most mechanics can be used in the base game and the expansions aren't really required but are worthwhile in some respects. Stellaris's expansions worth getting especially at a reduced price in the sale is the Synthetic Dawn pack which adds robotic AI which can be great to play as or against especially as there are story elements also added to the campaign rather than just being a basic generic race. Utopia is the first expansion and that allows for megastructures and more advanced government features - not ideal but adds some extra depth. Apocalypse which is the second major expansion that was just released recently adds space pirates and more end game elements such as planet killing colossus weapons - this stuff is more for the end-game. The DLC is quite pricey and non-essential especially as the 2.0 update which was free, contains the bulk of the new features. Worth picking up in the sale down the line after you've become familiar with the game. The rest of the DLC is fairly minor and surrounds portraits, new races and minor story extras. The total DLC cost is about £35 at full price but that can easily be whittled down to about £27 in the current sale. The base game alone is worth playing as is though and anything else can be experienced in the future.

  2. I can understand that there's still not quite the right quantity of games for the Switch just yet but to most of the population would still have plenty of gameplay in those games you've completed (i haven't got cloae to finishing Zelda and don't own Odyssey yet). That said, it's unknown if the new Nintendo Labo stuff that looks crazy and amazing will fill the void for some of this year whilst we wait for further titles to come out. I'm with the words of James' when he says promising start. For once in my life I'm wanting a Nintendo product to push on and be really successful. Via the FG App

  3. Not only did the thing look like a VHS player but the always online, compulsory Kinect and no pre-owned games was a disaster right off the bat and then the ones that did buy it after the infamous u-turns found out that the console was dreadfully underpowered for its cost and then there were little good games available. Hard to believe this was the follow up to the iconic 360! At least Nintendo have learned from their mistakes whilst Microsoft just keep on making more and more.

World at War and Black Ops 1 and 2 are 3 of my top 5 CoD games. I hope 4 is solid. I'm enjoying WW2 though. Don't get all the hate. It's fun. Via the FG App

I love the Xcom series, but I honestly don't have the time anymore to Save/Reload after every single missed hit when I was at 96%. When starting the game, I get it, the rookies totally blow.

  7. Nintendo isn't much better, like you've said, ports of games already on other consoles are pretty much their entire 2018 release schedule. Microsoft and Nintendo are pretty much the same on that.

Thanks for the that @J4MES OX4D it sounds like the vanilla game is good enough to be getting on with for now then and the DLC can be picked up later. Have you not bought it yet Lee? It was the cdkeys offer I was looking at too. I know there is a multiplayer in it too which could be good to try if there is a few of us. Though I'm not sure how it works being that the game could go on for hours and hours? Like, does one person host it and we would have to arrange a time everyone could make to continue it? Even if we don't go multiplayer, a few of us learning it all at the same time would be good

I missed a 96% hit on X-Com 2 and was so enraged that I uninstalled the game. After calming down I then had to re-install the whole thing again! Hopefully we'll get some new gameplay videos this month but from what I've seen so far it does look very good and the combat system is slightly more detailed albeit very similar to X-Com. Just hope the campaign has plenty of varied missions.

I know right! I enjoyed the new shadowrun games, but damn where they linear as hell. I hope this breaks away from that with maybe random missions, or at least allows for custom maps and stories. I have one concern though about the X-com comparison: Please god don't do that to us again.

I'm keeping an eye on this one. Made by the same team that did Shadowrun too. X-com with mechs sounds very intriguing.

Damn I forgot about this game! I need to see if it will run on my laptop.

  13. One thing to keep in mind though, is that the majority of Nintendo systems have outsold all Microsoft systems. If you start counting handheld systems, the numbers change even better for Nintendo. Nintendo is known for Gimmicks though, so I don't expect the Labo to change the numbers really at all. What will change it even more is getting people, like those of us here, to start using the system on a regular basis. If they were to actually port over the entirety of the virtual console from the Wii and Wii U system then I know a few others, myself included, that would play the shit out of the system. Sadly all those games I bought for the Wii and Wii U are gone. It honestly feels like more of a rip off than losing access to PS3 games when moving to a PS4.

I’ve watched a few videos on this and it looks good. It’s been a long time since I played any sort of strategy game. Are guys playing the base game or with the DLC’s. I’ve read a lot of comments saying the DLC’s really add to the game but buying the game and all the DLC is quite a chunk on a new game.

Yeah I’m the same. However I loved MW3. Think it was more so that’s when all of the Xbox guys started playing together

  16. The only problem I have with my switch is cleaning the dust off of it. I beat Mario Odyssey, and Zelda, sadly there isn't much else I really want to play on it. Its a great system, it really is, but things are getting released so slowly it seems that mine honestly just sits there.

  17. Microsoft’s stupid decisions, that they later 180’d on, are still hurting them. That reveal of the xbone was one of the worst things I’ve seen in gaming history. Never have so many bad decisions been made, at the same fucking time. It’s still laughable, even now. This still makes me chuckle

  18. The Switch and the PS4 have one thing in common; first party titles for their own in-house developers. Quality and quantity of games matter so much and these consoles have stacks. Doesn't surprise me that Nintendo are thriving so well - the Switch launched with more top games than the Xbox One has mustered in 4 years. This is where Microsoft have struggled throughout and deservedly so after their woeful entry into this generation with a VHS player, Kinect, no devs and needing to throw money around at the likes of Titanfall just in the hope of getting a foothold in something 'exclusive'. They may have the Xbox One X which is complete overkill for gamers and devs but if you've got jack shit games then what's the point and it just proves how desperate and wayward Microsoft have been this gen from start to finish aka now. There's absolutely no point in the XB1 at all really which is a shame as the 360 was a wonderful console. Just goes to show that money can't buy success now matter how much you throw around and if you don't have your own studios you ain't got no games. I hope Nintendo can maintain their quality titles in quantity also, and that they continue to attract developers and other major games in years to come. It's definitely been a very encouraging start.

They need to let Treyarch handle MP and then get Sledgehammer and IW working on other content. Treyarch SP campaigns are usually pretty shit whereas they always make solid MP. IW and SHG are shit at MP but make solid SP content.
