Battlefield 2042 Trailer

Early information:-

  • The max player count has been doubled to 128 on PC and the new consoles
  • The 128-player maps are divided into sectors containing clusters of control points; capture all the control points in a sector to control it
  • Classes (engineer, assault, support, etc) are now categories that contain specialists. Each specialist has a backstory and unique gadget, but can carry any gun.
  • Gadgets we've seen: A grappling hook, a health/revive gun (think Doc in Rainbow Six Siege), an auto-turret (think Team Fortress 2), a movement sensor (to catch people sneaking up on your while you're sniping)
  • 10 specialists at a launch
  • Purchasable battle passes; four seasons and four new specialists per year
  • Post-launch maps will all be free
  • "Levolution" is back, baby. What we've seen: tornadoes lift players and vehicles into a vortex, a sandstorm blots out the sky, a space rocket launches (or maybe explodes)
  • Everyone has a wingsuit
  • Some vehicles will have spotter seats (a small detail but I like the sound of it)
  • No battle royale, but there are some mystery modes
  • No singleplayer campaign

Can previous gen players play with new gen? If so how does that work? I'm assuming you'll just get the 64 player maps.

That information is coming shortly however it appears only 128 player lobbies are for PC and current gen consoles so crossplay is a possibility between those but the old gen of PS4 and Xbox One will be stuck with their own servers limited to 64 players on smaller/watered-down maps according to press documents.

Sucks if you can't play cross gen on consoles seen as around 100 people currently own PS5 Or XsX.

Also last gen versions cost £60 and new gen cost £70. Why is it an extra tenner? Do you have to pay more on PC if you use "ultra" graphics settings rather than "low"?? Will new gen have no micro transactions to justify the price rise? Or are EA just another greedy shit house of a publisher?

One thing I'm not too keen on is the Specialists - why not keep the usual class system with player roles instead of introducing gimmicky OP characters that look silly and have stupid names? It's not quite as daft as in COD but it's sad to see them resort down this route.

Hopefully I can get a ps5 before that releases. But looks good so far, though these days looks can be deceiving.

Happy for a modern setting too.

Why? Knowing DICE, 2042 is probably when they will have sorted the shit out and have the game working 🙂

I'm not sure if the old gen consoles would be able to handle crossplay even with the game heavily watered-down. Can't believe they are charging £60 for an inferior product too but there's probably a free upgrade in there. £70 for the PS5 one has become industry standard so EA are just exploiting that ceiling but at least it'll be the proper next gen version with all the bells and whistles. PC one is £50 on Steam but hopefully I'll be able to pick it up through an authorised retailer elsewhere for around the the £32-35 mark. That is the best platform to play a game like this on.

If DICE pull a Cyberpunk and don't reveal any old gen gameplay in the coming months then people should avoid it. If there is no beta on these machines then it'll ring alarm bells but I think we'll see plenty of gameplay before people take the plunge.

I won't be paying any more than 35 quid for it on PC. Even if I have to wait a few weeks after launch.

Looking at the profits they achieve, any claims of it being expensive to make fall on deaf ears.

EA could fund the entire development of this game and it's future upkeep just through the selling FIFA Ultimate Team packs for 30 days. They could even make it F2P and rely on battle pass purchases to make money and still make a fat profit. There's even an £99.99 ultimate edition on PC and I dread to think how much that is on the PS5 and what kinda worthless shit it includes.

This is what happens when you bring Call of Duty employees into your brand

Literally the same style marketing shit. The one good thing about BF even at its worst was that it never copied COD's formula. Now with specialists, battle passes and other gimmick shite, I hope it doesn't get devalued to those tacky and convoluted standards. I cringed when I saw the edition chart yesterday and thought I'd get Anthem PTSD at one point try to work it all out! For sanity sake I wont be posting that mess.

Don't think the specialist thing is the same sounds more about another layer of customisation.

It's basically named, generic OP characters who can use any gun and have their own ability and equipment - a blend of COD and R6 Siege from what I understand. I'd rather they just had the usual 4 infantry types rather that modelling it on Battlefront. Just a bit iffy of seeing balance issues come into play which are normally non-existent in this series.
