I love stuff about ww2 so I've been watching some of the programs, the one thing that always gets me is how even now the veterans still break down when talking about what went during the war.
I have great great respect for both veterans and soldiers today who put themselves in the firing line.

Reading about WWII makes me feel like a sorry excuse for an American. *salutes our veterans, those alive and those no longer with us*

Our WWII vets are a rapidly diminishing resource that must be cherished. If you know one, hug him and listen to his stories. Better yet, record his stories so that they are never lost.

    Different types of gamers

I’ve been meaning to start this topic for a while now, and with Doc playing The Last of Us, it has rekindled my interest. Different people prefer different types of games, obviously, let’s talk about the reasons why.

    Here are some benchmarks
Entirely story driven: Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls
Mostly story driven: The Last of Us, Uncharted
50/50 story/gameplay: Mass Effect, Fallout, Metal Gear
Mostly gameplay: CoD, Bayonetta, God of War
Entirely gameplay: Sports games, puzzle games (Tetris), Dark Souls

Some folks prefer story driven games, others require good gameplay, still others demand both. Personally I like them all; I think there’s a place for them all, though I lean heavily in favor of story. I’d much rather choose between things I like and dislike, versus choose among things that are all samey same.

When it comes to people like what they like, I have some theories. I think gamers can be lumped into two broad groups, those that ‘play’ games and those that ‘experience’ games. I’m not sure how else to describe it. I believe it has to do largely with how emotional of a person you are, or perhaps it’s imagination. Are you a dreamer or a realist, prone to wandering thoughts or locked into the here and now. Are you empathetic or indifferent towards others.

How you are as a person in real life, I think characterizes the sorts of games you’re drawn to. I’m very emotional, very empathetic, and a romantic in every sense of the word. A good story driven game sucks me in and stirs all sorts of emotions, which to me, makes for fantastic entertainment. But if you’re less touchy feely, a story game may leave you bored.

At the other end of the spectrum are gamer ‘athletes’. I think these people find enjoyment in the physical aspect of gaming. Hand eye coordination, speed, dexterity, reaction time. To them, playing a game is a precision sport. I’m thinking of MLG types. Or if not the physical aspect, then the competitive, where the game simply provides a forum to compete against others.

Finally there’s the strategy aspect. Strategy is present in both story games and competitive games; sometimes it’s the entire point of the game (Portal). People who like strategy games are probably those who enjoy problem solving in real life. People who spend a lot of time in contemplation and who plan more so than get out there and do.

So my question is, what type of personality do you have and can you see a relationship between that and the type of games you enjoy?

Here’s a little diagram I made to help visually describe what I’m talking about. The circle is drawn around my most favoritist games.

In other news, the future is here

I wasn't going to say anything about what's been going on here, as i don't think there's really anything more i can add but what i will say is this. I haven't been on many forums before but the ones i have been on have been nothing like this, like someone has already said, the fact we know each other by first names rather Wizardman3000 shows how close we are as a group. When people need help or advice on something, it seems, that they come here first. I know we all have our spats and our bad days where we can be dicks, everyone has them but the important thing is that we speak about it and try and clear the air. If someone's pissed you off/disappointed you so much that you think there's no way back then don't respond to their posts. You wouldn't go and hang out with someone you don't like in real life.

At the end of the day we're all pretty fucking good mates here, i've made mates for life on this forum and i hope to continue to make more. Lets not forget how special this place is because lets be honest, it is.

Here I will explain what I meant by my message in the shoutbox.

This has been going on for a while: First, Dattebayo was the one who got was treated like crap because he felt depressed, wanted some sympathy and then left because he felt bullied. I think one person apologized to him about that. It still seems to be a "thing", though.

After this, Steve expressed his beliefs in a thread, which he felt the need to instantly defend before there even were any replies... I don't think that's OK at all. I don't know what he expected or from who but it wasn't something good.

In another thread, there was a lot of hostility against Jsin because he didn't agree on a subject.

Now again, when Lee started one of his threads, which are controversial for a lot of people. Jsin lashed out at him because he didn't agree with it.

These are just a few... Why can't we agree to disagree? If we don't like something, it's really easy to not spend time reading it and avoid adding negative or condescending replies that won't provide anything meaningful to the discussion.

It seems like there are A LOT of tensions that have never been dealt with. I find this difficult to deal with for these simple reasons:

    Example

    1. I'm not sure I can mention anything about person 2 or 3 to person 1, because if person 1 still has beef with those people, might make things awkward and I feel it will affect that friendship.

    2. If I agree with or talk to person 2 about something, person 1 or 3 or might have the same reaction and things will get weird.

    3. Etc. etc.

    3. This is all difficult because person 1, 2 and 3 are all what I consider good friends (even though I never met you).

I just don't know, this makes me very uncomfortable. I often feel that I must choose sides... Do I want to do that? No... Absolutely not.

But what else is there to do? Should I leave and hope to find another place that is just like this? I don't think it's going to happen. The most similar place I've found to this community is Reddit but that place is largely anonymous with it's huge user base and it's difficult to really get to know anyone there.

I honestly don't know why it's so difficult to apologize to each other and move on with our problems. It's really childish, to be honest. Especially when they the people on the receiving end are younger than you.

We have long talked about being a "one-of-a-kind" community, where everyone is friendly and prepared to help each other out when someone needs it. We want to grow by having new members joining us, but that's not going to happen if we can't even solve our internal issues between veteran members on these forums.

If we respond with hostility to topics we don't like or agree with, the result will be more anger and grief towards each other. If we then refuse to acknowledge about what's going on, it will only worsen it and lead to people distrusting each other and this community even more. Which in turn will lead to more members leaving and it will eventually wither and die.

    That's the truth.

The general mood for me is that this place has been turning into what we all wanted to leave not too long ago.

It's ok to have disagreements, everyone does and i know every "Place" does. It's not okay to make a member feel unwelcome or unliked because they're feeling like shit. I've been a member of this mw2forums community since i was 18, im 22 now. I have changed and i have grown, I have gotten close to alot of you guys, and some i sorta drew away from(My fault) Either way, to me this place is a godsend. Life is hard so i come here to vent like many of you, don't like it? Balls. Don't comment on anything if you cant prevent yourself from making a condescending passive-aggressive remark. Ive made threads on here about being depressed, why? Well because i always thought this place was a run a way if you will. That my brothers will always have my back if i fall in real life. So i can feel normal again and bring myself out of whatever rut i was in. (advices here helped alot).

So, whatever this is guys, dont let it turn into auptykville shitfest. Keep it civil and always be sensitive and open to other's feelings. Just because things may be going good for you dont mean they are to others here. You never know they can be in some nasty hell and be coming here to seek comfort.

Just my 2 cents. This is all just an observation of what ive seen for the last few days. I dont know what was said to some members, but i do know this is how we need to be with everyone here if we wanna remain as a friendly community.

I'm also like steve i stay out of those political threads because i know where they usually go, it's just my tactic the avoid the avoidable.

Which awesome, intelligent, hilarious member made that?In relation to the thread:
    1. I've been a part of this community since I was 14 (I'm 18 now). During this period I've had to put up with a lot of bullshit IRL, that I think only 1 other member might be aware of. When I've been having a hard time I come here, not to post about it, simply to take my mind off things. We all deal with Enough BS in real life, so let's keep this sanctuary of ours clean from it.
    2. We're all (mostly) mature here. If you can spot that a thread your involved in is turning ugly, just walk away.
    3. Y'all are awesome. Let's keep it that way.

nah pretty sure this has nothing to do with you, no worries.

i'll be honest, i didn't see the issue here as much as everyone else, because as far as i know all the young trolls of religion who don't know how to be respectful haven't been 'round these parts for a long time.  so . . . sure, sad that he had to start with a disclaimer, but ultimately i didn't think it was super necessary.  not recently anyway.  and if someone did try to start shit i hope Steve knows we'd have his back and acclimate the noob to the rules, right quick.

this is really what i wanted to touch on briefly.  when it comes to the typical subject matter and the typical people who discuss it (because no one will understand if i speak in code), perceived "sides" are established based on how those exchanges usually go.  and it was once suggested that although people may not publicly support one particularly prolific poster, they actively agree with him privately.  that's fine.  that's also bullshit.  if you feel like you can't agree publicly, it's because you fail at defending your arguments as much as whoever it is you blindly agree with . . . NOT because of any other user here.

i guess i'm just saying don't kid yourself (not "you" Kent, but in general) by claiming you don't pipe up because we play too rough.  bullshit.

k that's it.  i love everybody (who can defend their own arguments).  be safe out there.

    The facts:

I removed posts most of you didn't see, as they happened WHILE I was reading the thread in question.

I flat out deleted them, and then made a post saying I removed them.

Do NOT assume those posts were one sided.

All parties involved were lashing out at each other

Almost all parties involved were private messaged by me, stating reasons why. One party in particular was not messaged, by me, as the Thread was locked and moved to the Pit. I assumed the person that did that messaged the user.

If the posts had stayed in the nature of what started it all, I wouldn't have removed a single one of them

They did NOT. They grew ugly quickly, and for no reason.
