  1. Is that just out of your precinct or is that the whole county/area? That seems like a lot
  2. Haven't owned that brand, but like I said there are a few that are worth the price. I have a pair of black leather work boots made by CAT (same company that makes construction equipment) and they are still in great shape even today 12 years after I bought them. And I use to wear them every day when I worked in the fabrication/welding shop. Think I paid around $120 for those, but the quality of them is just amazing and well worth it.
  3. Oh trust me, if I posted everything that pissed me off Dave would have to upgrade more storage on the site server
  4. One thing that really PO's me is the way that they make SOOOOOO many different sizes, voltage, amperage etc etc styles of cords these days that if / when you lose one you are basically screwed. Case in point... I have a 2 terabyte Seagate external hard drive that I purchased about 2 years ago. And like all devices these days the damn cord is detachable (I hate that) and since I don;y really use it all that much somehow I lost the damn power cord for it. After hours of searching online the only place online I found it at is some place that sells on Amazon. Problem is I need the XHD for vacation in 3 weeks to store my pics/videos from the trip, and the place on Amazon is based out of Dublin Ireland. No way that would get here in time. So I got out locally looking for something. I'll tryin give the short version here....I hit Radio shack, they give a universal one with an adapter. After getting home, the universal one is 12v / 1.5a.....I need 12v / 2a.....not to mention the adapter they gave me is 6.3OD / 3ID (mm)....I needed 5.5 OD / 2.5 ID (mm). So back to radio shack and return the crap. Then I go to Microcenter, best buy, another local no name shop, another radio shack....Finally I hit a local Mom & Pop shop that is owned by a nice Asian couple that I have used before and they really seem to know their stuff. The woman said the only thing to do is to buy a whole new XHD case and open mine up and transfer it to the new case using the new board so that the new power plug will work. After I got home and got it cracked open and all put into the new case it does work now, but cots me $30 and bunch of headaches running around. Just PO's me that they make so many different styles and types of damn cords and they are all detachable so you know at some point you will lose it so I just wish they made it easier to get a replacement. There I feel a bit better no that I bitched a bit
  5. In most heterosexual voice possible .... Nice snake Jay
  6. Because footwear is usually extremely overpriced. Not all but "most" $100+ shoes are not made any different than $45 shoes. Yes there are some that are made better, but the majority of them are all made the same way, pressed/formed sole to sides and end up tearing at the same place. I have no problem paying more for a shoe that is made well, but even some of the ones I looked at in the local running shop that were $120 were made no better than the $35/$45 ones. Again I'll repeat that there are some that are made better, but a there's a ton that are the same quality just with a two-three times higher price just due to the name/color of them it seems. Plus the only time I really wear "sneakers" are when I go for walks in the summer. 90% of the time I am barefoot around the house or in some outdoor style sandals so I simple don't want to spend a bunch of money on a pair of shoes that I'll only wear a limited amount of time per year.
  7. Currently down 39lbs since starting back and about down about 140lbs total since starting two years ago. Actually had to buy a new pair of shoes the other day because I wore the other ones out from doing so much walking exercise
  8. I actually have a running shop not even 5 blocks from my house, but stores like that charge buku bucks and if I ever paid more than $45 for a pair of shoes I'd have to kill myself
  9. I thought of you today Doc. I had to go buy a new pair of walking/athletic shoes today and tryin' to find a decent pair of size 14 shoes that are comfortable and don't cost an arm & leg is just plain ridiculous. I went to Meijers, Kmart, Walmart, Target, Kolhs, Dunhams and Payless shoe store. Some of the crap these places try to sell for $59-$79 is some of the same low quality made crap you can get elsewhere for $15. Anything that is actually somewhat decent and not too expensive only goes to a size 13. Finally after 2 hours found a somewhat decent pair of size 14w at Payless for an okay price.
  10. Now that summer and warm weather is here I took the beard as well as hair down super close. Don't even need a comb anymore lol.
  11. Sad news to hear this. Grew up listening to him on the radio as well as watching him on TV Saturday mornings on the countdown http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/2014/06/15/322264872/casey-kasem-legendary-radio-dj-dies
  12. That pic is actually a 1970 Chevelle
  13. I could live very happily in that 2nd pic!
  14. Rented "Non-stop" last night. Excellent film that kept you guessing till the very last second. Highly suggest seeing it.
  15. Guess I'm getting old, because I just built my first birdhouse. Figure while I was waiting for some rod parts to come next week I'd take a little time to make a house for the feathered friends in my newly redone backyard now. Made it so that the top comes off just in case it ever needs cleaning inside.
  16. Fire is a very scary thing when it is burning something it is not supposed to I've seen car fires and forest fires in person and felt the helpless and scary feelings they invoke. I feel sorry for these people when they have to deal with that in their home.
  17. Both of them have way too much free time on their hands if you ask me.
  18. Yep that was a porcupine that was tryin to hide in a tree next to the trail on the way out of the river Monday night. LOVE River Monsters, my fav show on TV. Jeremy is the kind of guy I would get along with well. Fly rods come in weights from 0wt all the way to 14wt so there are fly rods that can handle very large species.
  19. Fly fishing can be as easy or as difficult as you want to make it. To get started you can learn a lot from fly casting and beginner videos on youtube these days. Things which I didn't have the luxury of back when I started 25 yrs ago Best thing to do is to watch some casting videos and then pick up a cheap rod/reel/line and start practicing on the lawn. Then when you can get at least 25ft of line out then hit a local pond/lake with a small dry or popper and start catching some bluegills. Once you get the hang of that then you can start reading up more on things like all the various flies and leaders and when to use what etc etc and then start chasing some trout or other more difficult species to fool.
  20. Spent the past few days with my fishing buddy Mark and I trekking around the upper reaches of the Au Sable fishing for wild brookies and browns. Was nice to explore a bit and fish some waters other than the traditional ones, staying at different places each night, eating at different small town restaurants, and basically just bouncing from place to place looking for trout.
  21. I noticed that as well. Amazingly they can remember to do something for some of the most mundane bullshit inventions or B-days of some almost unknown insignificant person, yet not even a hint of anything for the WWII vets.
  22. Thanks. I'm a lucky person, I can honestly say my Dad was as good a Dad as anyone could ever want. He was honest, caring, smart, talented, and loved his family more than life itself, and made sure we knew it every day. Next month will be 18 yrs since we lost him, but I still think about him almost daily.
  23. That's the truth. We are losing the last of the Greatest generation at a rapid rate the past decade now. Anyone knows a WWII vet, sit down and talk to him for a while, you'll hear some of the most amazing stories you have ever in your life heard. I've known a few WWII vets over the years and the stories they would tell just blew my mind. It's like sitting and staring into a live history book.
