Happy New Year
phil bottle and 3 others reacted to Spacedeck for a topic
Happy New Year everyone. Here's hoping that this year is an improvement! What did you do this NYE? How did 2020 work out? I'm just home listening to My Dying Bridge and trying to get my head around what to do in Terraria. Daughter was sleep when all fireworks started, but she isn't a big fan of the loud noises (luckily they didn't wake her up). So as with any new year that closes in, do you have any resolutions you want to aim for? I did have a few, which I think I'm going to have to scale back to be more realistic. 1. I want to read at least 6 books in the year, one every two months. I did originally plan to make this a book a month but I don't think that'll happen! I thought about a chapter a day, which would more or less read me a book in a month but I don't think I could stick to that. 2. I want to try go running twice a week. This one won't be easy, I may have to settle for at least a run a week. I still hurt a little after my Christmas Day fall when I was out running, so I don't know if it's worth chancing running just yet. 3. Do a little bit of cross stitch every week This will just depend on if I have a project on-going at the time. Good luck with whatever you are aiming for this year! You will have the support of everyone at FG.4 points -
GT Sport - FG Races
JBR-Kiwi and 3 others reacted to GazzaGarratt for a topic
Couldn't agree more with you @JBR-Kiwi , this weeks racing was seriously good fun. 10 players on the grid this week after 9 last week - we'll soon have a max 16 players on the grid after hearing @Macca89 @Diddums and @Stretch616 are also looking to get involved when they can. I'm really starting to get a rhythm going for the first race of the night. It took me the whole of practice though to work out what car could work on that Tokyo track but I eventually settled on my 5th choice, the Audi TT. Although I got the 3rd fastest time in practice (pipping @Mikepjbell ) and I messed up my Qualy laps to start 5th or 6th. Probably didn't help racing @phil bottle and @JBR-Kiwi . The first corner we all knew was going to be a toughie and it worked out well for me with Matty @Misneach_ in 3rd with @Mikepjbell and @jordie1892 close behind me. Greebs got off to a flyer with Kiwi but it seemed even Kiwi was picking up penalties like pretty much everyone on the track after hitting walls along the way. If I could've hit less walls than I feel like I was getting closer to Kiwi than I ever have - no way near still to challenge 2nd but enough to keep my hopes up that I'm improving. Mike was pushing hard but probably too hard as his penalties racked up. After a promising start Jordie tried his best to keep in the middle of the pack but lost time through each lap. I was very impressed with Harold @Spacedeck finishing 4th after his penalties were slightly less than Mike's. Phil struggled to get going for once which was a surprise but we also saw Paul and Matty make some massive strides in getting closer to the pack. I'm hoping they see their own improvements week on week. The other 2 races were all over the place but great to shift the pack around! Mike held his own very well in our mid-duel holding me off until I made silly mistakes which let Phil and Matty past. I was getting penalties like others kept getting put my Supra just wasn't fast enough for some reason although it felt good around corners. The 3rd race i did better but without little practice for many I think that helped me in my favour tbh! One thing I noticed was actually, I little bit more practice on the first race suited us all. There's a balance to be had because we all struggle to get there on time. Let's keep an eye on it as I wouldn't want people to get bored over too much practice but at the same time it helps many of us out I believe.4 points -

Happy new year all, I'm starting the year in good anarchist spirit and resolve to keep it that way. By anarchist spirit I mean that deeply human sentiment, which aims at the good of all, freedom and justice for all, solidarity and love among the people; which is not an exclusive characteristic only of self-declared anarchists, but inspires all people who have a generous heart and an open mind. β€2 points -
Playstation Plus Free games
GazzaGarratt and one other reacted to Spacedeck for a topic
@GazzaGarratt The game is sitting on a "Mostly Positive" with 9,866 Steam reviews. This gameplay trailer is what made me think this game actually looks pretty good. I'm not sure how it'll adapt to the PS4 though as these games are pretty much best played on PC. I'll be giving this a try when it drops though.2 points -

Good racing last night guys. It was good to see a large group racing again this week and even my missus says she hasnβt heard me laugh so much on a race night! π @Greboth3rd race was hilarious but I enjoyed the close racing on that one with you even if it did get close! Definitely think the GT needs to have another look at the penalty zones on the red bull track as there was a lot of frustration flying about!2 points -

Battlefield 3 free via Amazon Prime

Battlefield 3 is free for a limited time on PC if you have Twitch Prime. BF3 has gotten a new lease of life, as DICE recently opened it up to modding, so worth a shout π1 point -
Magazines

I realise these are dying out for the most part but does anyone still buy / read these? My brother recently signed up to Readly and kindly offered me to use it. I do like reading things like "Cross-Stitcher" as it often contains designs I wouldn't mind doing. I recently have done some reading of "PlayStation Official Mag", "RetroGamer" and "PC Gamer". The idea these magazines can usually be read digitally on one subscription that allows access to so many different publications is pretty impressive.1 point -

I remember those days too mate π€£ I used to read Gamesmaster back in the day and would love to get into them again, however I think its been pointed out the adverts take up most space but more importantly I suppose I went there for new insightful bits and bobs e.g. Guides, new games, new bits, etc which is now on big t'internet these days. I actually think places like ours here does a better job of getting things across too because it feels more real whereas places like IGN sometimes feel way too forced, which then you lose that originality on why you loved it in the first place. Are there any Magazines in the gaming world still worth a punt? I think I'd go for physical copies if there is one worthwhile.1 point -

Happy New Year to you all and good thread @Spacedeck . We had a quiet one with the kids, and they enjoyed staying up until midnight although they were knackered and still not awake yet! I'd like to come back to this thread as I want to think about what goals I'd love to achieve this year. Just because we think it might be another one of those years, I dont want to accept that on face value as there's so much we can still accomplish but I know I need to do much better than 2020. One thing is for sure though, I would love to do more for others this year - as an individual but also as a family at FG. We can smash that out of the park for sure π1 point -

Right there with you buddy lol. I saw the keys in the picture first and knew immediately. Thats a pretty sick present, definitely would put them in a display This was the first Christmas in who knows how many years that I didn't go anywhere, and that was awesome. We usually spend the days around Christmas running around visiting family so I was actually really looking forward to this Christmas. The wine was flowing early. Aside from some gift cards from family I usually only get a present from my parents. Me and the wife stopped giving each other presents a long time ago. Usually I get something house or camper related from my folks but this year I really couldn't think of anything I didn't already have so I didn't give them any ideas. They decided to get me an Oculus Quest 2 VR set which is something I'd never even thought about honestly. It's amazing how far these things have come compared to the last time I tried one of these about 5+ years ago. I haven't played any games yet but I did watch about 3 seasons of Turn on Netflix lol. Its like being in a legit movie theater with a massive screen. Also jumped out of a few airplanes with a wingsuit on flying down mountains, rode some roller coasters, Blue Angels ride alongs, etc. The Oasis cannot come soon enough! And TIL about Lynx Africa gifts being a thing lol.1 point

I used to buy "Total Guitar" magazine all the time when I was younger and enjoyed some of the articles, tabs and gear and rigs to swoon over. As time went on I played a lot less and was better off keeping the 5 quid. I could Google tabs and images of dreamy setups and save the money instead. Did like the playstation mags when I was even younger (PS1 Days) things like Total Gamer as well. Also the odd FHM and Nuts mag not gonna lie π Haven't bought a magazine in over 10 years of any sort at least. If you are into specific hobbies like fishing or science, railways etc I can imagine they are good still. A dying art I think for the most part.1 point -

I'm subscribed to 2000AD and occasionally I pick up digital comics. Other than that, not really, too many adverts annoy me. Well, any adverts at all annoys me. Many of these publications are funded this way and end up just being marketing tools. They lose what makes them special. I'm the same with gaming websites. I used to visit IGN daily 10 years ago, for example, but cannot remember the last time I went there. Thrse days it just feels like one giant advertisement. But my disappointment with magazines is nothing new. Go back to the late 80s. I used to buy White Dwarf when I was around 11 years old as it featured lots of great roleplaying articles from all games, but then it went in-house, they shut down sister magazine Warlock and focused exclusively on Games Workshop games in White Dwarf. Great if you only like Warhamner but pretty shit for everyone else. I'm rambling, sorryπ1 point
