Xbox One for $399
Diddums and 2 others reacted to cyberninja2601 for a topic
That would probably be wrong. Steve Jobs went to the Xerox Palo Alto R&D facility and was memorized by the Mouse and Windows. Both were invented by Xerox who said they had no need for it since the could not use it on their copiers. He was told he could use it. Meanwhile MS got a contract from IBM to develop an operating system for their PC. This happen after talks with DEC failed. DEC had the CP/M operating system which worked on 8080 and 8086 (cpu used in the first PCs). MS emulated many of the functions from CP/M and some of them still remain today. Apple saw a lot of success with their windows stuff and people were liking it, so then MS decided to copy Apple. Like I said, Gates wasn't original but at least he could run and market a business. The current management can't even do that. Xbox isn't exactly new either. The were loads of gaming consoles before they decided they would have one. A lot of what we do see today in computers however was technology that Xerox chose not to deploy because they didn't want to hurt their copier business. Who ever made that choice is probably one of the guys running MS They wouldn't be the first knuckle heads from a large company to do something like that only to regret it later.3 points -
Microtransactions
BO7H B4RRELS and 2 others reacted to Diddums for a topic
When I first heard about these, I thought "excellent", the ability to buy cosmetic goodies for a few pence or a pound here or there would be excellent. Whether it was a hat in TF2, a camo pack in BO2, or a shortcut kit in BF4, it just made perfect sense. The only downfall it would have is that some folks wouldn't be able to afford them, but that goes with the territory. When WoW started with "microtransactions" I thought it was awful. It started off with a pet or a mount for the game, which although I disagreed with and never paid for, was definitely a success for Blizzard as everyone seemed to have one eventually. They must've made a killing. The mount was I think... £15? Something like that. Now that on it's own is taking the "micro" away from transaction. You could buy the base game for that price, or even an expansion pack. Hell, you could buy multiple games for that price. Yet here you paid £15 for a horse. And that's the point I started disliking microtransactions. The problem with them is that gamers will fork out cash for anything. I can guarantee you that if Blizzard released a gold covered horse for £1000 tomorrow, you'd see them all over the place within a month. Now there's nothing wrong with that, if someone wants to spend a grand of mommy & daddy's hard earned on a horse that's up to them, but what about the rest of us, who can't be bothered paying so much but want might also want something nice on the cheap? Well, that's where the cheaper stuff comes in. There are loads of other mounts and pets on the store, which are great. The problem is that once people start spending larger amounts of in-game items, some companies take this as "oh they will pay, charge more then" which gradually filters down to the rest of the playerbase, so many of us end up paying much more than we should for something which is effectively just a horse with a different colour. Now you can also buy a character boost to max level for $60. Yes, sixty dollars. This is somehow marketed as a "microtransaction". I'd like to know how they class a sum which can feed a family for a week as "micro". These are great in theory, but as usual once greed starts settling in it all goes pete tong very fast.3 points -
I wish MS would just sack the lot of their PR and marketing department and start fresh. Consoles should be "for gamers, by gamers" no "for gamers, by greedy suits". If MS sacked off the number crunchers, hired in some people who actually have a vested interest in gamers, their sales would double overnight. Ever since their delusional "always on, always watching, no used games or lending games, always online" nonsense people have caught on, and as much as I hate to say it, but only three people buy Xbones: Those who have been so far under a rock they have no idea what went on. Those who are such devout fanbois that MS can do no evil. The uneducated who have bought one as a gift. That's it. Anyone who reads the odd forum / blog / tech article will know what a stink that caused, and the only way of fixing this is to start from scratch with a whole new team. There is hope, but MS seems so dedicated to raising a sinking ship that they're completely blind to what the gamers want, and at the end of the day, without us, their product is a very expensive excursion into Dreamcast territory. Which is sad really. The Xbone is a good machine, make no mistake. The hardware is powerful, the interface is lovely, it has loads of extra features which are quite simply a pleasure to use, but unfortunately it was let down by the morons heading up the Xbox team. One quote says it all: "We have a product for those who don't have internet access, it's called the Xbox 360". That quote right there just shows how distanced they are from a gamer's wants and needs. Literally no clue. "Ah, that number is bigger so that's the one we're going with". Yes, but that number is also the final nail in the coffin, and now nobody wants your console. What now Mr. Numbers? I don't want to see Xbox go. I really don't. At this point in time it's all we have keeping Sony honest and if Xbox goes, who's going to fulfill that role? Nintendo? I very much doubt it. So please MS, there is still hope. Grab your marketing team by the scruff of the neck, throw them all out the door and get a fresh team in. Give them more generous budget constraints (still turn a profit, just a bit slower) and let them market the machine as it should have been marketed from day one: "By gamers, for gamers". Either that or have fun digging your own grave.3 points

The Class Types
Jason and 2 others reacted to crippled_viper for a topic
The Hunter is version of the Rogue or Thief. Their armour to cloth ratio is 50:50. They are specialists at stealth and long range fighting, but are just as leathal with their blade. They were once outlaws, prowling in the wilderness and wastelands. Now, bending the rules and being as 'resourceful' as they are comes in handy. Unique Features: The Hunter wields a combat knife for quiet, close-quarter kills. The Titan class is the walking tank. It is Bungie's Sci-Fi Warrior or Barbarian. They have a 80:20 armour to cloth ratio and specialize in heavy weapons as well as light machine guns. They were the ones who built the Wall and they were the ones who gave their lives to hold it during the Collapse of the Golden Age. They are forged from strength and sacrifice, being as merciless as their enemies. The Warlock is your classic Mage, but with a Bungie twist. They can use weapons as well as magic, making it so you can master both without being weaker that the other classes. They have a 20:80 armour cloth ratio. By studying the Traveler and learning to control some of its magical energies, the Warlocks came to be. While the true purpose of the Traveler and its abilities, including the ones granted to you, remain a mystery, discovering the truth has always driven you into the unknown. http://www.ign.com/wikis/destiny/Classes3 points -

They need to reward objective players. To this day; I still cannot believe IW didn't include this in Ghosts for the first half of the games existence. I remember playing Kill Confirmed and seeing players on my team with 30+ kills and just a couple of tags. Also seeing players bottling B flag on DOM because they didn't want to die for no reward. I loved how Black Ops 2 rewarded objective play. Even the weakest of players were able to get on the killstreak ladder without needing a string of kills. Everything seemed more balanced back then but Ghosts was lopsided towards noob camping or killwhores. Also, I hope strike packages aren't included and we have one basic ladder of streaks. about 80% of stuff included on Ghosts is unused or just not popular.2 points -

I just want it to be good enough to get a full party again, i miss those days. I think the unlock system should be sorted as well, the only thing on Ghosts that you need to unlock is Camos and even those challenges are a piece of piss. I miss the grind of having to use a shit default class until lvl 4 then have to use a pretty shit gun until about 15-20. Now I just choose Soldier, buy gun I want, buy perks I want, buy my scorestreaks and off I go... Wooo2 points -

First and foremost, everyone wants a good connection. I want the prestige system to be redone. As stated above it's shit. I want to be able to unlock guns through my prestige and not be able to buy whatever gun I want, whenever I want. Because of this system, I immediately buy guns like the honey badger and never try guns like the.... See I don't even know all the gun names. In MW2 and CoD4 I could name all the guns simply because at one point or another you had to try them because you didn't unlock that damn AK-47 yet. I want that back. Then when you use the gun you unlock at level 4 you have to unlock attachments the more you use it. So if you unlocked a sniper rifle, you would actually need to put some effort into the gun to get it max level before you get your thermal scope. That's the kind of system I want. I really wish Call of Duty developers would stop catering to new players. When we started playing World at War, CoD4, MW2 or before all that, we didn't have target finders and shit. Hell naw. We had to get better (LOL). They need to get better too or they can give up and play Mario Kart. We need brighter maps. Not flamboyant Nuketown maps... Just brighter maps. Stop using dark colors to cover up your ancient engine. Allow me to complete whatever challenge I want to complete and don't limit me. Looking at you Ghosts! One of my favorite things to do with John is unlock challenges, compare what challenges we have done and work on game mode challenges together. So Ghosts failed with that in my opinion. They fixed it as of late but the sting is still there. Killstreaks... Call me old fashioned, but I want 3 default killstreaks and that's it. Just like CoD4. I know that's not going to ever happen though. So what I do want is Barebones back, HQ, and all the other fun game modes. Not this Blitz shit. Oh and I want my classic UAV back and Stinger. I'm done. I think.2 points -

Xbox 360 owners did upgrade.... ...to PS4 Anyone who hasn't upgraded can't afford to at present because the Xbox One is a rip-off even Kinectless and when they have got that sort of money; a PS4 makes more sense I think Microsoft are absolutely desperate and are just trying to convince themselves that everything is fine. The amount of u-turns they are doing is unheard of and just shows how ridiculous their initial policies were. They should rename the console Xbox One-eighty for all the u-turns they do.2 points -

I'm going to throw this in here: Why is the PS4 outselling the Xbox One? Microsoft weighs in... Yusuf Mehdi says, "They're in 40+ markets, we're in 13," and claims Xbox 360 owners are enjoying the systems so much they are less inclined to upgrade. http://www.gamespot.com/articles/why-is-the-ps4-outselling-the-xbox-one-microsoft-weighs-in/1100-6419622/ The untruthfulness of "People have been more satisfied with the Xbox 360 than the PS3, so in that respect people have less of a need to upgrade in the short-term due to regular updates for the Xbox 360" infuriates me. Good reply I saw was "Excuses are like PS4's. Everybody's got one!"2 points -

We’ve heard that you want more choices from Xbox One. You want a wide variety of options in your games and entertainment experiences and you also want options in your hardware selection. To be clear, as we introduce this new Xbox One console option, Kinect remains an important part of our vision. Many of you are using Kinect for Xbox One every day. In fact, more than 80 percent of you are actively using Kinect, with an average of 120 voice commands per month on each console. Some of the most popular voice commands include “Xbox On,” “Xbox Broadcast” and “Xbox Record That.” We will continue to offer a premium Xbox One with Kinect bundle to deliver voice and gesture controls, biometric sign-in, instant personalization, instant scanning of QR codes, and enhanced features only available with Kinect in games such as “Kinect Sports Rivals,” “Just Dance 2014,” “Project Spark” and more. It's every day. I almost saw a guy get run over yesterday in a crosswalk by the lady I was behind who had just blown a stop sign like it didn't exist. Wish I had the extra coin to install recording devices in my cars. I'm not making it up. I limit the middle finger, I'm a big thumbs up guy. Like this morning at 6 in the AM, after I'd only been awake about 20 minutes, when I went to pass some old ugly fuck and he moved over into my lane half way and rode in the middle of both so I couldn't pass without going into oncoming traffic. So I lowered the window, get mirrors hitting close to the guy he looks over... POP! The thumb and a smile. I like the oops one. I've been thinking a lot lately about ways in which I can deliver messages to other drivers while on the road. For example I can't stand when people throw cigarette butts out of their window and it hits or comes close to hitting my car. So if I had a T shirt gun I could pack it full of butts I gather from works smokers outposts in anticipation. This way if I got the chance I could pull up next to the person and shoot them all over their car and see how they like it. Fair is fair. Also thinking about using one to shoot rolled up drivers manuals or papers that have VR Codes to it (http://dmv.ny.gov/sites/default/files/legacy_files/broch/mv21.pdf) on them at people. Then I wonder how much jail time flinging garbage and drivers manuals at cars would get me1 point -

The developers are consistently helping weaker players. Look at the support killstreaks. Hell, they even had deathstreaks at one point. I use support killstreaks 90% of the time, not because I think i'm a shit player, but because I don't nearly play as much as I did in CoD4/MW2. I didn't have these things when I was a 'casual' noob in W@W. And since when is a casual player a crappy player? I know some casual players that are way better than the people putting in 6+ hours a day. Just because you play a lot doesn't mean you're going to be good at the game.
