    What to expect?

    Wow, this is pretty damn good! Running with everything maxed out, it looks really sweet. I love that many buildings are enterable, and the atmosphere really takes the DayZ franchise to a whole new level. I find the scarcity of food and supplies a bit concerning, I'd say a priority for Rocket is to get resources to respawn without the need of a server restart. Some ambient sounds freaked me the fuck out at first. There's a sound which sounds like a rusty gate which had me cowering behind a bar for a few minutes until it repeated itself enough times for me to establish that it was in fact an ambient sound and not a player. Zombies are rarer than hen's teeth, yet to see one. I also miss the location announcement when I log in, so I literally have no clue where I am, and I can't find a sign to give me an indicator (it's also been a while since I've been in Chernarus so fuck knows). I'm currently sitting in a block of flats somewhere overlooking a small town, in the dark, dying of thirst and unable to find anything. I have a pink beanie and a working flashlight, that's it. Time will tell where this adventure takes me...

  6. The problem with Justin Beiber is just what I said earlier (chlid star syndrome). It's another case of the blame falling mostly on the parents IMO. When a child gains fame at such an early age as he did then he has niether the maturity nor the wisdom/experience of life to be able to handle the burdens that fame and great wealth bring with it. When you are just a kid you do not have the tools to handle fame and fortune. It is then the parents job to help guide him in the right direction and help him still be able to experience an enjoyable childhood before he becomes an adult. His parents did not do that though. His mom seems like a whack job and his dad seems like a total loser. Worse yet his dad was actually in the car stopping traffic so he could race, as well as provided him with some of the drugs. To me his parents are not only not doing their job as parents, but even worse yet, they seem to only be in the picture to use Justin as a cash cow. It's really sad when you stop and look at what is really going on. I have never cared for Justin but truth be told I actually feel sorry for the kid because he really has a very slim chance if someone responsible does not step in and do something. If someone does not step in and talk some sense into his head and make him realize money does not mean you are above the law then he is headed either for death or prison. Not a very good outlook if things do not change for him.

  12. I just don't trust Salmond. The important stuff just isn't clear enough. Currency - Are we going to use the pound? Huge uncertainty. Bank of England - Salmond says that we currently have no say in our rates as they are set by Bank of England. He's technically right but another reason why I don't trust him or his logic. We're part of the UK so while Scotland doesn't have a say in the rates for Scotland, we're taken in to consideration for the UK. If we go independant, our rate gets dictated to us, without a second thought about us. What other country in the world has their rates chosen by a completely seperate country? Madness. NHS - What happens to that? BBC - Already documented, but not clear. We become SBS, and we get some of the same shows as BBC. But at what cost? BBC will own the license (I'd assume) so would we have to pay extra for our TV license to cover it? Could BBC turn round at any point and go nah, you're no longer British so you're not getting Top Gear, Wimbledon etc... Pensions - No idea what happens to mine. EU Membership - Salmond says we'll get it, next day President of Spain says it's not guaranteed. Olympics/Davis Cup/British Open - Does Scotland get the British Open, renaming it The Open, or do we share it? Do we give it up? What happens with representing at the Olympics, Davis Cup? Football is fine, but we still play in a lot of sports under United Kingdom or GB, do we lose that? BAE - This is the shipyard in Glasgow, building aircraft carriers. They were in Portsmouth as well but hundreds of jobs there went, majority kept their jobs in Glasgow. What happens to that contract, and others that are similar? The UK aren't going to build their aircraft carriers in ANOTHER country. Everything is working fine as it is, there's too much uncertainty for a decision to be made this year. Why change something that isn't particularly broken?

  15. So after a huge pain in the ass of a download on Friday, and a busy Saturday, I got about 6 hours to play on Sunday. It's not as much as I'd have liked but I feel like I still got a pretty good idea of what the game was like. I spent the vast majority of the time as a Khajiit Nightblade. So after a short intro you are brought into character creation. I loved it. If you're an Altoholic like me (or at least like the character creation process), then you'll be pleased. The races all looked pretty good and there were a huge number of customization options, from the angle of your forehead to the size of your hands. I spent a decent time going through all the options and decided it's among the best character creations I've seen in an MMO (And I've played my fair share). I also took this opportunity to look at the higher level gear and was once again pleased. Each race had high-end gear that reflected their personality whilst being consistent with Elder Scrolls Lore. It should be noted that some of the low level gear (particularly the medium armour) didn't look great, though I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem for long. After character creation you are brought into this weird soul prison. You meet 'The Prophet' who gives you information about why you are there and what you must do. I won't go into details about the story so far but as Sennex said he basically tells you that you're special. The prison is a tutorial level and it was pretty boring. It was dark so didn't show off the graphics and the lack of skills at this point meant combat was pretty boring (I'll go into that later). It takes about 10 minutes to go through the tutorial depending on how much you look for loot, so this could be a bit annoying when starting several new characters. When I finished the tutorial I found myself in a small camp (the starting area for the Khajiit, Bosmer and Altmer races). This was the first time I got to see how beautiful the game really was. I was highly impressed with the looks of the game as a whole and can tell I'll spend a lot of time just exploring the world of Tamriel. Before I would have said that Guild Wars 2 was the best looking MMO I've played, but The Elder Scrolls Online is definitely a new contender. I was approached by a khajiit who set me off on my first chain of quests. The quests in the starting are were also impressive, there was no "Go to Quest Giver, Kill 8 Wild Boars and Wolves for meat, return to Quest Giver, recieve 200 gold". I had an instance where I was running up from the shore when a woman ran to me for help. I had to run through some ruins and free her master from an evil spirit. It seems a lot more inspired in that aspect. Whilst I've made the game sound pretty good so far, I do have one main concern. The combat. It neither had the complexity of other MMO's such as WoW or the fluidity of single player games like Skyrim. I think I had 5 abilities as well as a regular and heavy attack. There was also a limited amount of abilities to unlock, around 6 for the three skill trees as well as a few for armour, weapons and races.I was able to link up some abilities well however. I could use the 2 second stealth, followed up by a heavy damaging backstab with bleed. Then crippling the enemy as they try to escape. The combat was sometimes laggy with an enemy taking a few seconds to fall after I killed it, thus causing confusion as to what exactly was happening. I never tried out PvP which I regret, since I'd like to have seen how multiple classes could link up together. Overall I think the game is more suited for a casual MMO player, with it's strong points being on looks and story rather than the gameplay itself. Whilst I'll be picking it up, with the looks, story and exploration greatly interesting me, the boring combat may mean I'll put it down sooner than expected.

    Cheers Jordie, I'll give it a proper go next time I'm near a lake / pond. A few more observations: I was hungry and thirsty, and I found a can of "spite" (lulz). Cured my hunger, not my thirst. Dean could get rich off that. Zeds are a bastard to lose. I had a few tracking me for ages, lost them eventually but bloody hell, they're like sniffer dogs! The inventory system is very clever, and that alone is worth upgrading from the mod. I love that different garments have different amounts of pockets and whatnot, very good. The combat... oh dear. If you've ever fought a zed, you'll know exactly what I mean. The game at present feels like a case of wait for server restart, rush rush rush to get stuff, then... erm... nothing. no vehicles, no tents, nothing to try and achieve. Once you're all gunned up and have decent kit, the only form of entertainment I can think of is hunting players, which might explain some of the KOS mentality some of you guys are experiencing (and I'll no doubt experience at some point too). The game feels like the basis of something very good, something excellent, and a game which will probably suck me in for hours and hours on end, but as it is now, it's lacking content. I maintain my opinion that Dean needs to focus on getting stuff to respawn inbetween restarts. Once that's sorted I'd start looking in to storage, the lack of ability to hoard stuff is brilliant for a lone wolf like myself, but I still think it's an awesome goal to work towards. And vehicles. We need vehicles, badly. Excellent game, needs improvement. Yes, it's an Alpha, I know this, but I felt like blabbering so meh.

  22. Celebrity culture today no doubt is a tough, demanding, exhausting, intrusive and perhaps depressing experience which can ultimately affect someone dramatically. Some celebs can adjust to the lifestyle and daily pressures and others can go off the rails. It's been happening for decades and in this modern age; it clearly can affect people in more severe ways in which the public lap it up in the gossip and media domain. Bieber's antics of late can mimic that of the ordinary person; if your average Joe Bloggs did this; nobody but the neighbours would care. Whether Justin's problems are down to the celebrity climate or him just being an arrogant and immature prick is something that we cannot divulge at this time. Famous people his age within the celeb domain can conduct themselves in a proper manner and as a role model for many people; you'd expect better from Bieber. Perhaps he cannot help it due to the lifestyle pressures and wanting a bad-boy image or perhaps he's just a little shitbag that should be taught a lesson in the big boy bad world. He has fans, he has haters; welcome to 2014 where the internet is your best friend and worst enemy.

This gives the M1911 a clear accuracy advantage for range, while the COMPACT 45 has a clear ammunition per magazine advantage. 2) Increased the close range damage of the M1911, QSZ-92, FN57, CZ-75 and COMPACT 45. This will allow all pistols to bypass Body Armor at close range. Additionally, the FN57 and the QSZ-92 have had their long range damage increased to allow them to properly bypass Body Armor at all distances. Finally, the CZ-75 has also had its long range damage raised to give it a diverse role among the handguns. 3) Reduced the delay between pressing the trigger and the bullet firing for the M412 REX and .44 MAGNUM. This delay represents the way these weapons work in real life, while also improving their responsiveness in game. 4) Increased the magazine capacity of the QSZ-92 to 20 rounds, the proper amount for this weapon in real life. Additionally reduced the recoil of the QSZ-92 to give it a clear difference from the FN57. 5) Corrected a small error with the COMPACT 45 accuracy when crouched or prone. The weapon was accidently less accurate than intended.

    Agreed wholeheartedly. The server hopping I had never really noticed in the Mod but it appears to be endemic in the SA right now. Don't trust anyone. I've only been KoS'd once in the SA but that was a server hopper while I wwas looting a barracks.

    Also I may add that loot only spawns after server restarts usually every 4 hours so you see quite a few people 'server hopping' whoring items. It's best to select a low populated servers and focus on niche areas to pick up decent items for your inventory. So many players find a good area, scavenge everything and then find a different server, spawn in at the same place and resupply the same items. They really need to address the loot spawns and a server-hopping prevention method. Some players get their character wiped through this but others can build a good amount of items from this exploit. Also a fair few people of the community are a bunch of fucking wankers - more immature than the COD lot

    My thoughts on DayZ standalone currently. It’s still fairly basic and so: No vehicles yet Not place to store items/loot yet No hunting yet There aren’t a lot of zombies at the moment and once they die they do not seem to respawn until a server restart There’s a lot more attention to food and particularly water if you’re running a lot, which you will be As loot (like Zeds) only spawns once, scavenging is a lot more important The map has new features and building and most of the buildings are now enterable New features like handcuffing people, needing certain items to open cans of food Towerblocks are cool, as is the abandoned ship…
