  1. I've just had my first payout from Adsense, a shade over £60 which has taken almost 4 months to accumulate. This covers the cost of the site for the next few months, so donations at this point are simply going in to the pot for game giveaways, competitions or a rainy day. Just wanted to share that with you guys, thanks for making this place as awesome as it is!

    Alien: Isolation

I'm in love. Just watch: This...this is the Alien game I've been waiting for. [Article from Game Informer] https://www.gameinformer.com/games/alien_isolation/b/xboxone/archive/2014/01/07/alien-isolation-could-be-the-one-we-ve-been-waiting-for.aspx In space, nobody might be able to hear you scream, but we’ve grown accustomed to the sounds of disappointed sighs. Fans of the Alien movies have been burned in the past, most recently byAliens: Colonial Marines. Developer Creative Assembly is taking a refreshing approach with Alien: Isolation. Rather than mine James Cameron’s space-marine classic Aliens for inspiration, they’re going back to where it all started: Ridley Scott’s 1979 horror film, Alien. We scratched the game’s surface in an earlier preview, but I’m going to take a deeper dive. I was able to play and watch a demo of Alien: Isolation for several hours, and I walked away confident that this could be the Alien game that actually gets it right. Here are some of the biggest reasons I’d say fans have reason to hold onto hope. They're using the first film as an inspiration The differences between Scott’s original movie and Cameron’s 1986 sequel couldn’t be starker. Scott introduced us to the xenomorph, a terrifying creature with a memorable way of making an entrance (this is your cue to clutch at your chest). Sigourney Weaver’s Ellen Ripley faced off against the alien monster as her crew dwindled one by one. It was slow-paced and terrifying. Aliens took a completely different approach. Instead of battling a single predatory beast, the film’s squad of United States Colonial Marines battled hundreds of the skittering abominations. It was thrilling in its own right, and it provided a template for games including Doom and Gears of War. At this point, however, the things that made Aliens so much fun – Hudson’s panicked cries of “Game over, man,” Vasquez’s tough-girl attitude, the overall group dynamic – have been aped so much that they’ve lost much of their novelty. For whatever reason, Alien hasn’t inspired so many copycats, which opens up tremendous opportunities for devs like Creative Assembly. The most obvious thing I saw was when my demo started was the game’s low-fi approach to technology. The art team was told not to use anything from beyond 1979 as inspiration, and that design mantra permeates everything you see. The game takes place in a place called Sevastapol Station, which features living quarters, shopping areas, medical facilities – the works. The areas I explored were filled with old-school touches, from huge push-button computers and incandescent lights to the way the game’s map UI buzzes and flickers onto the screen like a VHS tape with poor tracking. We don’t see many games using this era as inspiration, and it is an interesting change of pace. Bug hunter, or bug hunted? You can shelve your dreams of mowing through hordes of xenos. As Amanda Ripley, Ellen’s daughter, you’ve been trained to be an engineer. And unlike another famous video-game space engineer, I wasn’t armed with deadly equipment to help even the odds against the xenomorph. Instead, my mission was to get from point A to point B alive. It was tougher than it might sound. The first time I played the demo, I wandered through the halls of Sevastapol Station until the xeno reared its ugly domed head. It skulked off down a hallway, and I pulled out my motion tracker to get a bead on it. I did my best to stay behind it, eventually finding a spot of cover. It wandered around for a while, clearly hunting for me. I waited, watching, trying to get a read on its patrol pattern. As it turns out, I probably could have waited all day. Creative Assembly has built the alien (notice the singular there) to take advantage of its senses. If you run, it’ll hear your footsteps and head toward you. If you make the mistake of peeking out from cover just a bit too far, it’ll notice your head and attack. It can hear the sound of a locker closing, turning what you thought was a temporary refuge into a vertical coffin. In other words, this alien isn’t the bullet sponge you may have grown accustomed to. Amanda will eventually become armed with weapons and traps (which can be found or crafted), but she’s still far from invulnerable. Creative Assembly says the alien will learn, too. As one example, the creature could pick up on the fact that the silence between magazine reloads indicates that Amanda is temporarily vulnerable and act accordingly. The effects add to the experience There’s plenty of eye candy in the game, but it does more than make everything look nice. Alien: Isolation’s lighting is impressive, creating multilayered shadows that are perfect for a xenomorph to blend into. The station’s hallways and corridors are lined with tubes and pipes, which also provide a bit of camouflage for the creature. There were two touches that stood out in particular during my hands-on session. First, when you have your motion tracker in front of you, your gaze focuses on its low-fi screen. Everything beyond that is blurred out in a depth-of-field effect, just as it is when you’re working with something close up. Keeping track of the blip could mean the difference between staying alive a few more precious seconds or facing a game over screen, so it’s important to pay attention to the tracker. At the same time, it’s easy to see how the creature can slide into view unnoticed if you aren’t paying attention to your surroundings. Juggling focus was an unexpectedly interesting part of the demo. The station is also well lit in some areas, and it may take a few seconds for Amanda’s eyes to adjust to the low light when she steps out. If you’ve been hit by a flash-bang in any contemporary FPS game you’ve seen similar effects. It’s handled quite naturally in Alien: Isolation, however, and I thought it was worth mentioning. It is scary as hell Alien: Isolation is survival horror, through and through. Though Amanda will eventually get ahold of weapons, Creative Assembly says it isn’t a shooter. I know we’ve played the role of characters who weren’t trained killers, but who just so happened to be excellent at it, so I’m curious to see how that plays out here. I can say when you’re unarmed and just trying to find sanctuary from the alien, it is one of the most tense games I’ve had the pleasure to play. When the demo started, it felt like being tailed by Resident Evil 3’s Nemesis. Once I started to realize that the alien wasn’t on a track, the experience started feeling more desperate. I settled into a groove of rushing in short bursts from cover to cover, and taking advantage of lockers for hiding spaces whenever possible. I watched a few of my co-workers try the same demo, and it was interesting to see their different approaches. One editor stuck dangerously close to the xeno, as if taunting it. When it seemed as though the creature was onto him, he’d back up ever so slightly. It was like a tense form of dance, and it ended with a few deaths. Another made aggressive beelines for the mission objectives, pausing only to die a few times. The creature’s unpredictability adds so much to the experience. It might take a few steps and stop, waving its head crest around as though sniffing the air for any trace of Amanda. Then it might bolt forward a few yards before slipping into a grate. I never felt comfortable being near the alien, which is exactly how things should be. We’ve shot enough of these monsters. Maybe it’s time we fear them once again.

  6. My brother's wife complained about this last week. Now I don't even use FB anymore, I never used their apps much but on android there is an app called XPrivacy which let's you control permissions for every app you install. What's scarier to me is all the games and other apps people install, having permissions to access your location and Facebook/Google accounts. This means any allowed to do this can collect your password and personal info. Here are some popular apps with those permissions that I have restricted on my phone

    Datte's Art

It seems my old art thread was removed for some reason, but no matter. Here I will post my art, whether it be hand-made or a BO2 emblem. Please note, however, that there will be a few some alot of ponies here, so proceed with caution if the mere sight of a candy-colored equine makes you furious. WE GO: This pic (a gift to my favorite artist) quickly became a favorite of many, and requests were coming in quickly after that for me to do the same thing with different characters. Who knew? x)

    DayZ Meet up?

I mostly play lone wolf, hero style... though occasionally, when in the mood, have been known to join a mate of mine who goes for the PVP thing. Just testing the water but... I was thinking though of seeing if anyone here wanted to meet up in Chernarus sometime? I play both Mod and Standalone and I'm free most late evenings UK time. I'm not sure who plays and if anyone plays regularly apart from a couple of chaps here...but leave a post here if it tickles your fancy. For the record I've been playing the Mod for a year and a quarter. I rarely die but here's one unfortunately on record:

  10. UPCOMING VEHICLE TWEAKS Aircraft and Anti-Aircraft 1) Reduced the total amount of missiles carried by the Mobile Anti-Aircraft vehicles from 6 to 4. The total carried missiles were making it impossible for helicopters to use counter measures to avoid the MAA’s attacks. 2) Reduced the velocity of the MAA’s default 20MM CANNON from 1200m/s to 800m/s to match the 30MM CANNON. This reduction reduces the distance projectiles will travel and should prevent situations where the MAA could engage enemy vehicles without leaving its protected home base. The damage of the cannons remains unchanged, and aircraft, especially helicopters, should remain wary of getting too close to a MAA. 3) Reduced the physical impact of all Anti-Aircraft missiles to prevent helicopters from flipping uncontrollably when hit. The damage values have not been changed. 4) Reduced the cone in which ACTIVE RADAR missiles search for targets, making them require a higher level of skill in predicting where a target will be when the missile is fired. The missiles were previously too easy to aim at long range, making them a guaranteed hit and a clear advantage over the other missile types. 5) Increased the direct damage done by the Attack Helicopter’s gunner cannon. The gunner will be better able to assist the pilot in taking down vehicle targets with this change. 6) Increased the direct hit damage of the Zuni Rockets for Attack Helicopters. The rate of fire of these rockets combined with their smaller magazine pool made them a poor choice over the other two rocket types. 7) Reduced the splash damage and maximum splash damage range of the Scout Helicopter 25MM CANNONS. These weapons were too effective against infantry with a higher splash, making them a clear choice over the 7.62 MINIGUNS in all combat situations. The 25MM CANNONS are intended to give the Scout Helicopter some measure of effectiveness against vehicles, at a clear trade off in effectiveness vs. infantry. Tanks and Anti-Tank 1) Reduced the “intelligence” of the MBT LAW missiles, requiring the player to aim the missile closer to their target before the smart projectile will activate. Additionally, the MBT LAW now reloads slightly slower. This keeps the MBT LAW in its role of an easy to use, fire and forget weapon available to all Engineers, while also balancing it with the other rocket launchers in favor of skilled AT shots. Finally, a bug where the MBT LAW would pass through an ACTIVE PROTECTION shield has been fixed. 2) Fixed an issue where ACTIVE PROTECTION and the MP-APS did not properly stop 12G FRAG rounds. 3) Reduced the range where the M2 SLAM will do maximum damage to vehicles from 6M to 3M. Players will now need to be craftier when placing the M2 SLAM in order to get the full damage potential of this ambush anti vehicle weapon. This change is to primarily counter a tactic of placing 3 mines in the same spot to guarantee a kill on any vehicle passing within 6m. The range was deemed to be too large, making the M2 SLAM far superior to the M15 AT MINE. 4) Reduced the damage the STAFF shell does to all targets by 25%. This should balance the ease of use of the STAFF shell with its damage potential. Source:http://blogs.battlefield.com/2014/01/bf4-balancing-vehicles/

  12. Hey you guys, I recently updated the roster. You can find that here. It's long over due, but it needed to be done. I wanted to redesign it though the bio though. I took off game types because we aren't all playing just CoD anymore and it looks a little weird. Perhaps, we can put add some of the games we play to our bio if you guys would like that. Like I said in another post, I tried my best to put what I thought the platform would be and answered some of the questions for some people with what I thought the answer was. So if any of it is wrong, let me know, i'll change it. I don't know if it's because i'm not on the PS4 or what it is, but I don't feel like we're using our FG forum as effectively as we did with Alliance, T2K, and the DI forum. I'd like to see that change. I'd like to see us be more proactive with our little section we have here. For example, I feel like this thread should have been put here because every single person in that OP is in FG. Right? If a new member came to the forum and saw that thread there they wouldn't think anything of a clan or anything like that. But if they saw it in the clan section, they would. Which means we could get a recruit, they might even stick around on the forums too. Do you guys want recruits? Dave is doing a lot, and i'm sure we're gonna get bigger at some point so it's something to think about. Anyways, the purpose of this thread is to just get organized and see what page everyone is on. Thanks

    Mining Cryptocurrencies

It's all very interesting all of this, and today has been very interesting to say the least. Basically, there was a hearing in New York which is split into 5 segments, each tackling a different aspect of "what now?". The only one I heard so far is the point of view from the coin's backers and supporters. Tomorrow there is another segment (panel) which will be a law enforcement perspective and a retail perspective, which will be attended by Overstock, the first large company to accept Bitcoin (and took $130k worth of Bitcoin sales in the first 24h). The general consensus I got from the state (I know the coin's stance, I was interested in what the gov had to say) wasn't "make it worth my while" but rather "ok, this is all cool, but how are we going to make it work?" It's all quite exciting really. The archive is a two hour long video, but for those who are interested, it can be found here: http://www.totalwebcasting.com/view/?id=nysdfs

    Dog Suggestions?

The opinions below do not reflect dogs that are bread for fighting, not been trained, been mistreated, abandoned, beaten, malnourished, etc… They might have an ax to grind with humanity and will most likely bite the shit out of you with no provocation. The Pit bulls being dangerous discussion infuriates me so I set out on a quest to discover why it is people get bit by dogs in general. I've consistently found it's because they're uneducated about how dogs behave, how dogs react to certain stimuli and are simply scared of dogs! They won’t admit it but it’s perfectly clear by their actions, uninformed monologues and the results. Harboring an ignorant irrational fear is a large part of why people are bitten by dogs period. Not just Pits. It raises a question for me. If you live in an area with venomous arachnids, venomous reptiles, snapping turtles in your swimming hole, bears, mountain lions, etc… do you not educate yourselves, friends, kids on the dangers and safety precautions to ensure survival? I’ll answer it myself: YES! So why are people not doing this with dogs!? Demon Pits from outer space spewed from hell by the devil himself with a blood lust for a humans unsuspecting innocence do not exist. In your head they might but don’t project the flawed operations of your mind onto dogs and pass them onto others. I’ll support my findings and opinion by letting you all know I’ve had or been around dogs since birth. I love dogs and am currently helping my Mom raise a Guiding Eyes for the Blind puppy. By going to the classes with her and the puppy I’ve had many Ahh HA! moments when they've explained behaviors I’ve witnessed but never recognized or had names for. It’s important information humans should take the initiative to learn about and pass on to others. Media and people need to stop with the dangerous breed play on fears propaganda and start educating people. Please!

    Dog Suggestions?

I do not agree one bit with that reasoning. ANY breed of dog can be potentially damgerous if it is mistreated or not trained properly. So saying that a dog should be muzzeled because it is potentially dangerous is simply an overreaction blanket law. Blaming a breed of dog is no different than blaming a young child for being a problem child when in fact the blame lies 100% on the parents for not teaching the child right from wrong or showing them any discipline. Same with dogs, saying a breed of dogs is potentially dangerous is misguided blame. Even what could be considered a "non dangerous" breed could kill someone. It is all about how the animal is raised, it has nothing to do with the breed.
