JBR-Kiwi 286
Right, this will make a few people very happy because I have taken advantage of the free weekend trial and downloaded Overwatch. Now I need you lot to give me some tips so I can put my team on my back and carry them to victory like I have to do in COD. Lay your tips and tricks on me. crispymorgan 1,054
Easiest way to ease into overwatch is soldier. From there you can get a feel for what the team is missing. It's all about picking the right team structure, and counter picking against enemy teams. Certain maps demand a teleporter, others need a shield. Reinhardt is another easy character, but very useful. If it's just the weekend, I'd suggest soldier 76. JBR-Kiwi and GazzaGarratt 2 20 hours ago, crispymorgan said: I shall also buy a monkeybike...... GazzaGarratt 11,049
Good man Kiwi! Crispy is pretty much on the money if it's only for the weekend. Personally, I think coming from CoD you would be more inclined to go for the DPS characters like Reaper, Tracer, etc. All I'd say is don't make your call on this game too early. The more you play the game the better it gets and you'll then get chance to try out other types of players which may be different to how you've tackled previous FPS games. All about the team comp in this game and you need to try and compliment the the other 5 players to be successful. JBR-Kiwi 286
Right I am going to stick with soldier for a bit only because I went on something like a 20+ kill streak despite not understanding what the fuck I was doing. On on a side note why are some of the characters so godamn awful or is it that I'm not playing them right? Biggest gun in the game but it was like I was firing marshmallows and was as mobile as a crippled whale on land! Diddums 4,346
I find that not dying is fairly conducive to being successful. The biggest advantage to this tip is that it applies to pretty much every character. Assists and kills count towards your streak. Sounded like you're on about Roadhog! That the thing with these characters, all locked down characteristics. Some will work for some situations, then they'll be absolute dogshit the next. Hang in there, you will get used to their moves. Just think of it like a suped up straight forward Street Fighter. Every character has their moves but easier because there's less to learn. Just difficult to master. JBR-Kiwi 286
Am I right to have a hatred for the opposing Bastion(?) I feel like on some maps this character is insanely OP with people setting up at a choke point in turret mode and then people putting shields up in front of him. I have seen so many plays of the game where it is just mowing people down even from a distance and there seems little that can be done 😕 Link to comment https://forevergaming.co.uk/forum/forums/topic/4416-tips-for-a-noob/#findComment-89591 Share on other sites

That's why crispy like playing him [emoji6] It's about working with the team. You can get past him and decimate the team if you change strategy. Choose Tracer. Fly past them into the objective make them scatter. D.Va and Pharah can do the same. There's so many ways you can get round him. You do need a capable team with you however. crispymorgan 1,054
Bastion is an easy counter. You need to have good comms. Me and dids ( bastion and mercy) can take on most bastion setups. But you need to call or locations. 20 hours ago, crispymorgan said: I shall also buy a monkeybike...... JBR-Kiwi 286
Right so at the end of the rather short taster weekend, I have a few thoughts. Did I enjoy it? Yes, I was actually surprised by just how much I did enjoy it. The large range of maps and playable characters was good to see and the fact that the controls were kept extremely simple made it a hell of a lot easier to get to grips with playing OW then some games I have recently played. The Positives? Wide range of characters meant there were a numbers of choices that you could make when it came to choosing a character especially if your fav/go to was snapped up by someone else. I liked the fact that just playing in the general vs mode (dont know what they call it), I got a couple of different game types and they can range from very quick to a good decent length game. Even going into the next game was extremely quick, once again compared to some games (I'm looking your way GTA and BF1). The maps were extremely colourful and I really enjoyed that coming from COD with its grey, greens and browns. I can see why it appeals to both adults and kids as a game. The Negatives? Despite the wide range of characters, some characters are just complete shite and pointless. Some people may say oh you need a certain build of other characters to bring out that one characters strengths, but as a solo player who hops on for a few games and then usually hops off, I cant be waiting around for randoms to select the exact build I need. Having tried a lot of the characters I tended to rotate between 3-4 depending on the map and my team mates. Which brings me onto... Randoms. Holy fuck why is it that these people have no concept of what they need to do in a game and play every game like its TDM in a fluorescent sci-fi world. I couldnt give a flying fuck if you have a 30 kill streak if you are as far away from the obj as possible getting sucked off by the other team whilst im getting my shit pushed in as the only player on the objective. Team balancing leaves a lot to be desired from what I experienced. So Would I buy it? At full price...No. Its a good game from what I experienced but I could see myself getting very bored playing solo. However at a lower price?...Well put it like this im busy looking for sales on it atm... tronic44 1 Link to comment https://forevergaming.co.uk/forum/forums/topic/4416-tips-for-a-noob/#findComment-89664 Share on other sites

I think everyone will always find some players utterly useless to them because it doesn't play to their strengths. I would love to play some other characters for example, Reaper. However, I feel so flimsy and slow and just get shredded so quickly because of his health. However, Rich can make Reaper work well for him. I think the main reason we've played it this long is because there is a lot of us that have it. Having an FG team of 2 to 6 just makes the whole experience worthwhile as it does help in most instances if you have co-ordination. The only annoyance I have is that I really hope that the placement matces don't mess up again so we don't have to spend time on getting everyone within range just to play with each other. tronic44 1 Link to comment https://forevergaming.co.uk/forum/forums/topic/4416-tips-for-a-noob/#findComment-89684 Share on other sites
tronic44 3,642
I don't think I could play this game solo either, it's definitely a team game. The more you play in a team the more you'll realise the strengths and weaknesses of different characters. This will either be from using those characters or coming up against people using those characters. £25 for this game is a bargain! I'd definitely recommend picking it up and getting some games in with us, tis good fun 🙂 Link to comment https://forevergaming.co.uk/forum/forums/topic/4416-tips-for-a-noob/#findComment-89700 Share on other sites

crispymorgan 1,054
I'll hold my hands up and say I thought this game was crap. I played it. Crap. Played it some more, still crap. It's not until you weather the absolute shit storm of humiliation and defeat you can start to enjoy it. Briefly. Then it cranks the difficulty up, and BAM! it's crap again. It's a great game that is easy to play and insane to master, but we all progress and play better and better players. I rage all the fucking time, because I want to be as good as possible, and sometimes the matchmaking is retarded (both ways). Occasionally you get a game so awesome, even when you lose it's been fun.
