Nominations for FG Game of the Year 2024

It’s that time of year … Nominations are now open for the FG Game of the Year 2024! We will follow a similar structure to last year. Please respond to this thread with your 5 games that you think deserve to be nominated for Game of the Year. Rules: - Game must have released in 2024 - Remakes are allowed (e.g. Silent Hill 2) - Remasters not allowed (e.g. The Last of Us 2 Remastered) I think that covers most things. If you have any questions or suggestions let me know. Nominations will close at 23.59 on 23rd December, so you have 2 weeks to nominate! Please message as many of your FG friends as possible who may not always check the website to come and nominate so we can have a good selection of votes. Once the nominations process is complete I will start a new thread where everyone will be able to vote for their winner! Make sure you nominate your favourite 5, even if someone has already nominated your game. The games with the most nominations will make it to the final stage. For my fellow Xbox players - how does your year in review look? My most played game was COD and that was only BO6, followed by Star Wars Outlaws then Gears 5 👍🏻

I have to say - I’m really happy with the games this month 🤣 I’ve never played It Takes Two and heard it’s amazing so I’m happy with that! I’ve had my eye on Aliens: Dark Descent for a while now and was waiting for a really good sale, this is even better! So I’m really excited to try this one out! TemTem I will try, Palworld was a fun Pokemon like game and hopefully this one will be too. So yeah, might not be the best for most people but I’m pretty happy!

I ageee with Red Card. I don’t like it on some game modes but then I do quite enjoy it on Hardpoint 🤷🏼♂️

I would have to say Payback is my No.1! I also like Subsonic, Babylon & Skyline. The new map Hideout is ok so far and can see it growing on me. I’m undecided on Extraction …

Wow that’s an impressive collection!! I agree they need to improve the online battling and I’m sure they will get it right eventually! Packed this Charizard yesterday!

I am loving this game! Both the collecting and battling is a lot of fun! I wish there were better rewards for winning battles, 15xp is just not enough! I also think there is a massive advantage for going second in battling which is very strange! Thought I would share some of my best shinys so far!

A new mobile Pokemon game based on the trading cards. You collect Pokemon cards and battle them against other people (or solo matches against AI). It’s like Marvel Snap but for Pokemon. I’ve been playing it today and have to say it’s a lot of fun and quite addicting! If anyone else is playing or is going to play add me on there, my code is: 7375646786471039 I still hate the Nintendo friend code system!

Of course! Although I’m still undecided if I should try and get the kids to support them or not as I don’t think they deserve to go through the constant disappointments and heartbreak year after year 🤣 Although maybe that builds character? 🤔

I only have the controllers and headset that I bought at launch with the PS5! I’ve been looking recently at purchasing a ‘pro’ controller, however I’m not willing to spend hundreds so I’m looking for a budget one. I’ve been looking at the 8bitdo Ultimate controller, it’s only £55 and appears to have the Hall effect sticks, back buttons etc. However it seems to only be for Xbox so I’d be stuck with the standard controller for PS5! So long story short is no I haven’t got any PS5 accessories but would love some recommendations for cheap pro controllers 🤣

I’ve been fully digital since around 2019, so haven’t had a physical bargain in a while and can’t recall any major ones off the top of my head! The odd bargain from the PS store sales but not worth writing about!- 1 reply

I’ve played 16 matches and I’m roughly half way through the campaign, and I’m having a great time! 1 big caveat; I have taken a long break from COD. I didn’t play Vanguard, Cold War, or MW2 at all, and only played about 30 mins of MW3 when it came to game pass. I didn’t want to buy these games anymore, and I’m only playing BO6 due to it being on game pass! So there’s a good chance that the reason I’m enjoying it so much is that I’ve taken such a long break! Need to play more matches to determine which maps and weapons I do or don’t like, but for now I’m just enjoying my time with it!

Thanks @Luseth, are you happy for me to read these points out on the podcast? I have to say I agree with most of what you said, particularly the stealth. Your point about planets having a theme is interesting too and never really thought of it that way. It makes sense for a platformer like Mario or Astro Bot to have themed levels, but when it comes to large scale planets they should have some variety in environments. I guess the counter argument to that is that not many planets are going to have the same conditions as Earth, due to distances from their Sun etc. I 100% agree about the filler though, I know people like their games to be huge 100 hour experiences so they feel they have got their moneys worth, however I prefer a much tighter experience!

Beat this game last night, bought a month of Ubisoft+ so I could play it on the cheap. Basically only completed the main missions and did very little side stuff. Took me 15 hours. In my opinion, it’s a good game. I had my fun with it but certainly wouldn’t consider it one of the greats, and I much prefer the Jedi games! Once I had accepted that this is basically a stealth game I found it more enjoyable. That being said, there are plenty of better stealth games out there!! I’m going to be reviewing it on my podcast this week and wanted to know if anyone else had beaten it yet and would be willing to share their thoughts so I can share them on the podcast? If you’d rather me not mention your username just let me know!

Not me - I’ve never been interested in MMOs, and now more than ever I don’t have the time that is required to invest into them! I’d say I probably get on average about 10 hours a week of gaming on my home console (I can play a lot of Marvel snap on my phone). If I got really into an MMO, I’d never be able to play any other games! Interested in your thoughts on this one though, being another attempt my Amazon to get into the video games space. Do you think it has staying power? Or one that will be forgotten in a year or two?

All really great choices so far! In the interest of not picking the same games (I would have picked The Last of Us) I am going to pick the following: - God of War (2018) - Resident Evil 7 - Zelda Breath of the Wild - Uncharted 2 - Portal (1&2 - is that cheating 🤣) Picking just one of the portal games is hard! The first game is so iconic and brilliant, but the second game is definitely better!

Personally, I would say the next 12/18 months is looking pretty exciting! For me I’m looking forward to playing the following (roughly in order of release): - Black Ops 6 (game pass) - Fear the Spotlight - Stalker 2 (game pass) - Indiana Jones (game pass) - Marvel Rivals - Assassins Creed Shadows - Avowed (game pass) - Ghost of Yotei - Fable (game pass) - GTA 6 - Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra - South of Midnight (Game Pass) - Splitgate 2 These are just the ones we know about, I’m sure there will be some good surprises too (who would have guessed Helldivers 2 would have been that good!) I’m sure the games I listed won’t all be as good as I’m hoping, but I’m definitely excited for them and there’s nothing wrong with that!
