  1. Saw this yesterday and thought it was pretty amazing so wanted to share it. IT'S a volcano, but not as we know it. This cerulean eruption takes place in the Danakil Depression, a low-lying plain in Ethiopia. The volcano's lava is the usual orange-red – the blue comes from flames produced when escaping sulphuric gases burn. French photographer Olivier Grunewald creates such images without using colour filters or digital enhancement, which is no simple task. To get this shot he had to wait until dusk, when the electric blue flames were visible, but before all the daylight had ebbed away. Then the wind had to be blowing away from him so he could get close enough. Photographing the similarly sulphurous Kawah Ijen volcano in Indonesia, where he worked inside the crater, was even more treacherous. "We have to take care when the winds push the flames close to us," he says. "In Danakil it is easier to escape as the land is flat." Grunewald works in a gas mask to avoid breathing in the deadly fumes – but photographing Kawah Ijen still left him with peeling skin and clothes smelling of rotten eggs for weeks afterwards. Another drawback of Grunewald's subject matter is that the acidic gases don't agree with his cameras. But it's worth it, he says. "The phenomenon is so uncommon – we really feel like we are on another planet." http://www.newscientist.com/article/mg22229700.100-ethiopias-blue-volcano-burns-deadly-sulphuric-gas.html#.U4WWE_ldV15

  3. He does nice work. The problem with art is that to get a fair price the artist needs to be "known" or the price will not be much. I've seen some absolutely fantastic paintings being sold for dirt cheap simply because the artist was not a known artist. Attach a known name of a famous artist to a piece and the price shoots up.

    Elliott Rodger

Yeah I read that Rodger was a big MRA, which isn't particularly surprising. The biggest issue I have with the men's rights movement is that they don't organize marches, they don't raise funding to help men, and they don't do anything outside of complaining on internet about how hard it is to be a man in this world. It's more a movement against women than it is a movement for men. I'm not really pointing a finger at them in this instance, but I can guarantee that Rodger's circle of MRA friends did nothing to discourage him from cursing women for his inability to get laid. And @ deterioration - Whether misogyny or just general youth mentality is to blame, hopefully something will be done. Also, here are some comments from his video, just to show how lovely people can be.

After reading updates all day it looks like race and misogyny have trumped the gun debate in this case. As said in previous posts people are using this tragedy as another springboard for their agendas. Not knowing all of his imbalances or mental issues: I don’t know if I agree with the blanket theory of misogyny and men seeing woman as sexual objects. I think it has to do with selfishness, jealousy, young mentality and under developed social interactions. I’m positive most of us have gone through being jealous and having our hearts stomped in the mud. This kid didn’t even get as far as "be careful what you wish for you just might get it". Seems to me like if someone took the time to talk to him and let him know everyone goes through the same shit in life it might have helped him? Maybe someone did? Has me wondering what if he was in a relationship and the girl cheated on or dumped him and got a new man? Would he have killed them and their families? Hopefully this will get people talking to their kids and will help prevent stage 5 clingers, psycho stalkers, property damage, assaults, etc… in the future.

  15. Yeah it's pretty bad most of the time. 90% of the maps are crap, 90% of the guns aren't worth using, 90% of the perks are pointless, 90% of the players are wankers 90% of the time, 90% of the modes are under-populated. Knack is better

  19. It's a great picture... Given the subject matter I can't imagine you would get a fair price for his work, in terms of materials and time taken to paint the picture, simply because it is aimed at children, would look great in a child's bedroom, but would parents pay that much for it? If he paints other things such as landscapes etc then really the sky is the limit, the price of some of the 'Art' I have seen over the years can be ludicrous...

    Battlefield: Hardline

I'm not bothered by what they call it,sticking battlefield or cod on stuff doesn't really interest me as long as what's produced is good to play, I can see why it would drum up interest but maybe that's a good thing as I may not have heard of the title and possibly miss out on something different. As for the urban setting that may also work for me, I've played more dominating small maps and player counts on bf4 due to it being all action and the games are quick so it fits with the fact I don't have much time during the week. I look forward to seeing some mp gameplay.

  29. I need to upgrade my hog riders but keep getting attacked before i can reach 20000. I also agree with Bob, i think we do waste a lot of attacks not knowing if we're even going to get one star. There are some people who have their town hall outside the walls, they're normally guarded by teslas but should still be an easy 1 star for most people. If the opposition have a high leveled person with the town hall outside of the walls, then i think we should let someone who's on a lower level take a pop at getting the 1 star because the chances are that most of us would only get 1 star anyway. Hope that makes sense? Also i don't mind when we game, if the app actually wants to work then i'll be fine to game when ever. Bees!!! Did your app manage to stop fucking up, mine still quits on me all the time?

doc my phone wont quote your post.. you say banning the mentally ill from owning a gun would help prevent murders etc I kind of agree. but I am thinking, where then does the line get drawn? some mental health conditions do not in anyway make people more at a risk of commiting murder. in some cases, mental health is clearly a big issue. which then means its down to an assessment of the individual. ..but then look at Oscar scumbag pistorius...no mental health issues, yet clearly his personality would appear to make him a serious risk with a firearm. man this situation is fucked.no easy solutions for both sides of the gun debate. I got ya bud, like I said we agree pretty much. I think some of the difficulties of me agreeing 100% though with that comes from the fact I live 6 miles from the center of Detroit. There are no difficulties for anyone getting a gun here if you want one no matter who you are if you truly want one And yes, that is very sad to say that to be honest, but it's the truth. Because all honesties aside, tell me to get you an unregistered handgun right now, give me less than a hour and I'd be able to get you one for less than $100 in 45 mins-1hr off I-696 & Caniff, and probably get ya a rock for your pipe ta boot It's sad how things are in the inner city here for sure.

  35. No. I could afford it at the time, I wanted it and it's a very good piece of kit. Ghosts is a bit meh on it but Battlefield looks amazing. The fact that I'm not playing very much these days has nothing to do with the console, more to do with work and having grown up shit to do round the house, like mowing grass. Strangely, Ghosts has made me excited for other games coming on the PS4. It looks so much better than the PS3 equivalent so it makes me quite excited for the new COD or Destiny which were built for next-gen.

    Battlefield: Hardline

That's very true of Call of Duty but I think BF4 and Hardline could run well together and give gamers a vast choice of two very different games with similar core mechanics. By Christmas, you've seen it all in a COD game with only the DLC to retain any lingering longevity. You've unlocked all the guns, attachments and perks and the quick-fire matches of 6v6 just means a continuous cycle of the same old stuff. I usually tire of the current COD game long before summer as the hype for the next one grows as the leaks reveal. Battlefield 4 has over 130 weapons to unlock, tonnes of assignments, medals and matches on a huge scale on a variety of modes. There is so much meat and depth to this game, it is just massive and despite the problems; the infrastructure will keep players engaged for a very long time. I spent a couple of years on BF3 and I'll probably do the same with 4 as there is still so much to do and see. The backbone of this game is immense and that's why I think people will still maintain interest even if there is a sister game out at the same time. BF4 accompanied by Hardline as an alternative sounds pretty good.

From what I saw of Elliott Rodger; it seems his wealthy parents spoiled him throughout his life and that he expected everything to go his way and be on a plate for him. His attitudes to women and life in general was worrying. I have grave concern for the youth of today and society in general. Parents that are happy seeing their kids playing on Xbox for 6 hours a night, no fresh air, Kim Kardashian, Rihanna, One Direction and Chris Brown as role models and this image that they have to maintain on social networks of being beautiful in all selfies and having as many friends as possible. I'd hate to be under 21 these days. The social pressures it seems is just too much now. Even guys are under pressure having perfect hair, skin, muscles and clothes. If someone doesn't fit the expectations; they get slated or bitched about by others. Also this fanboy culture we see in music and videgames has lead to people losing the plot, making death threats and literally going 'mental'. It's a far cry from the easy days I used to know. I think society is on the brink of collapse and I think metal illness particularly in young people will go through the roof with all the daily social pressures it seems.

I understand what you are saying Doc, but my point is that someone that is driven to commit murder, be it one person or multiple persons they plan to kill, that person will find guns or other weapons needed to commit that act regardless what the gun laws are. There is nothing wrong with making sure mentally ill persons do not own firearms, I am in complete agreement with that for sure. The problem is though that no laws what so ever will prevent a dedicated murderer from attaining a means to commit murder. And the knee jerk reaction by liberals immediately following an incident such as this to have stricter gun laws does nothing by hinder law abiding citizens, not the criminals whom actually commit these crimes. I think we are actually saying pretty much the same thing Doc, just in a bit different way is all. Because I don't mind "well thought out logical gun laws"...I just am against the knee jerk ban / make firearms harder to get for all type of gun laws is all. Plus I just feel that no amount of gun laws will actually make a bit of difference to a person that is actually ready to kill another person.

I am new to this story, as I avoided all things "news" this weekend. That being said, I am reading all this now and spotted one thing that always sets my blood to boiling. Its being reported that this dude had Asperger's spectrum Autism. First off: Aspergers as an Official diagnosis was removed by the American Psychiatric Association back in 2012, as it was a shitty diagnosis, and we have learned more about Autism since then. My son was originally labelled as Aspergers Spectrum, but was changed to Regressive Autism when Aspergers went away. Autistic's can be incredibly violent. This is contrary to popular belief, and the percentage is very small, but is is possible, I have seen it and experienced it first hand. Typically this violence happens only in severe cases of autism, during puberty, and when the normal "Tool box" of responses doesn't work. The Child will just lash out. Again this is not frequent, and I would venture to guess that the actual number is less than 1%. (Anyone wanting to know more, let me know, while not an expert, I will share my experience and library on Autism as much as I can) Second off: Why the fuck are we again talking about gun control and not talking about how the mental health services in this country have been in a steady nose dive since the 1960's? Why aren't we talking about how people with mental health issues are typically ostracized and ridiculed in this country? Mental health funding and treatment are as bad, if not worse than VA benefits, treatment, and funding. //this isn't directed at anyone here, just in general by what I am seeing in the news //Also, wasn't there a second shooter/ stabber on the grassy knoll?

Yet murder is illegal so that we can sequester that person away and keep them from doing it again, or be able to arrest them for attempt or conspiracy to commit and prevent a life lost. Stricter gun laws can prevent crime, if done appropriately. Banning cosmetic features or wholesale prohibition is not doing it appropriately. Allowing the mental ill to be disarmed does. Indiana has the "Jake Laird law" because a mentally unstable person had their guns confiscated, petitioned the court and got them back, and then murdered his mother and shot up the neighborhood, killing one cop and wounding several others. Had the law allowed his crazy ass to be held in a mental institution or prohibited him from getting his guns back, the tragedy could likely have been avoided. http://www.odmp.org/officer/17421-officer-timothy-jacob-jake-laird Since I work in Homicide & Robbery, I get a stat sheet on every homicide, murder or otherwise, in our county. Very few murderers don't have weapons priors along with multiple prior felony and drug arrests (as do a majority of victims, for that matter). Stricter enforcement for weapons offenses for felons would prevent crimes, as those assholes would be in jail instead of back out carrying guns and slinging dope again.

  43. I'm not a great fan of the pairing off against the respective guy in the opposite clan, reason being the top 5 are usually rock hard, and so we waste 'higher level' attacks against stuff where we have no chance. I appreciate the fairness of giving the guys with lower level troops the chance to attack the lower level enemy, and if they can do well that's a really good strategy, but I think it should be a bit more of a free for all in the middle ranks, so we three star as many people as possible Maybe round 1 should be - top 7 players go against opposition 6 to 10, bottom 8 go against 11 to 15. We have enough failed attacks at the moment that it would'nt leave anyone with no-one to attack Round 2 - improve on what we have by learning from round 1 Swapping strategies is also helpful, I'm off to build some wizards which I haven't used for ever
