e32018 Who Won E3? Analysing E3 2018 via Reddit Threads

Winners and Losers of E3 2018 /r/Games

 

Winners:

• Cyberpunk 2077 anticipation continues at an all time high
• Bethesda was the most talked about Publisher dominating even though the big announcements themselves contained little detail besides the mysterious Fallout 76 announcement

 

Losers:

• Anthem didn’t garner much attention or positive reception even with the combined backing of Bioware and EA.
• Ubisoft — Assassin Odyssey and The Division sequels should have done a lot more but the skepticism of Ubisoft the subreddit seems to be ever-present.
• Microsoft — For a console, it’s IPs are becoming more and more uninteresting. Leaving very little to analyse too.

 

Overall, all the big hitters happened in the Xbox Conference. Bethesda was the best performing Publisher by way of mystery. Playstation had a subdued one by its standards, but maybe they were holding back for the Tokyo Game Show and Playstation Experience Event later this year. Ubisoft under-performed considering the number of reveals they had, that may hint towards skeptism of their products, even more so than EA.

I understand the Ubisoft were treating their partners/contributors/content producers etc to a pretty nice experience.

 

Cyberpunk hype has started to grate on me, it's a long way off yet.

That's an understatement. The Star Player Program was one of the coolest things I have ever done in my video gaming life.

 

• Complete access to anything at E3, skipping every line. 
• Front row at Orpheum Theater during their conference. 
• A private Ubisoft lounge with all new games in a LAN environment for us. (5 hour AC demo, Division 2, etc)
• Master Classes, which included NDA game information and private Q&A for each game. 
  • Spoke with the CEO, Yves Guillemot for about an hour. 
• Hotel, meal and flight accommodations. 
  • Clothes, neat figurines (Being an R6 Star Player I received all 10 Rainbow 6 chibis)
  • Had two dinners with the entire developer crew of Rainbow 6. (Community devs, managers, designers)
• Free Ubisoft games for anything that releases between June 2018 and April 2019 . (So off the top of my head, The Crew 2, Assassin's Creed: Odyssey, Just Dance, The Division 2 )

Really surprises me that Division 2 is seen as a Loser. My view was it did extremely well and that the Raids will be the dealbreaker in that series.

I get that Phil. They clearly get the best prize for most hype for showing pretty much nothing. I want to get hyped for it but I don't really know what i'm getting hyped for, if you know what I mean?

EA won E3. Their centerpiece title; Command and Conquer Rivals for Mobile will revolutionise modern gaming and will be a trillion dollar franchise. So glad they spent over 20 minutes promoting that instead of major AAA titles like Battlefield 5.

I might go back and play Command & Conquer Retaliation on my PS1 at this rate.
