So, DayZ. The game that made me buy a PC.

I played the mod back in the summer of 2012. It was a mod of Arma 2 and it was free and it was awesome. The first time I spawned on the beach of Chernarus is my favourite and most memorable ever experience in a video game. It’s one of those experiences I have been looking for ever since. The mod was so good, and it spawned a number of offshoots, some on different maps, such as Navalsk, the snowy mountainous region and Taviana a map that was utilised into the DayZ Origins mod. I loved all the mods, though initially I only had a laptop which would overheat in less than 2 hours.

The mod had a lot of glitches, it was famous for it, and though it was being worked on all the time, we all demanded a standalone version. And we got a standalone, early access. The standalone has since taken on a life of itself, it’s been slow progress. But I think it has finally turned a corner.

I logged in last night to try out the latest patch.

New patch = character wipe = spawning for the first time with a new character

I logged in, spawned my new guy in at dusk in a mist covered field and - unusually for me - was unable to get my bearings straight off. I wandered to the edge of the field and found myself by a graveyard next to a church I have never seen before. I started to get that old DayZ feeling back. Atmospheric and strange noises all around me, a few zeds wandering around in the distance, twigs snapping and shit like that. I felt like I was really there.

The graphics are awesome, as are the sound effects. I love how the trees and grass sway with the wind. It was really really spooky. I think I’ve fallen back in love with the game.

And more is to come this year :)

This is the game that I always wanted to play.  Soon.....

My old 770 on ultra settings gets 100+ frames. DayZ used to be really CPU intensive but it's optimisation is pretty on the nail right now.
I'm looking forward to you getting a PC if DayZ is in your plans...[emoji106]

Lol DayZ. I'm amazed it's still going. Cripspeee you'll love it, until some cunt in a ghilly suit zaps you from 5 miles away and you can never get back to your shit, leaving you with a shitty pistol and enough water for about an hour, at the mercy of zombies who can glitch through walls and teleport, to tear your face off, thus killing you again, so you spawn again with the same shitty outfit except that this time a guy comes along in a jeep and says he wants to be BFFs only to drive you somewhere in the sticks and rape your arsehole before breaking your legs and leaving you to bleed out a million miles from anything useful, so you just wait it out until you're dead and respawn and start the whole cycle again.

It's amazing DayZ, I can't wait for the final release in 2027.

LOL Dave come and play, things have changed a lot since you were last on in 2015 :)

All the rest is true though. I am that Ghillie.

I'll be on DayZ this evening with a chap I used to play with and I'll be trying to get him on the forum too. He's already on Discord as "Joey".

Anyone else who fancies coming on is welcome and Diddums sort your PC out!

Nope...they're all going to look out for you...probably through a sniper scope! :lol:

Thanks to Capn_Underpants for the artwork

DayZ has mostly gone for its survivalist roots in the Standalone.
The mods had all manner of exotic and military sniper rifles, with infra red scopes and all sorts.
The Standalone isn't like that and it's less likely to be killed from half a mile away. That doesn't mean it won't happen though.

I mistly play on a role play server where kill on sight isn't allowed but on the public servers it's still 'anything goes' .

Still, I do run into decent folk on public...just don't trust anyone or anything anyone says.

Played a few hours last night with Joey.
We took a trip west to find decent gear.
Funny at first, I was moaning at the lack of food and worrying I would starve. Then found an apple orchard and problem solved.
Chased by wolves on a ouple of occasions.
Caused a cow stampede which was just awesome.
For about two hours the only protection I had was an axe and a single shot pistol but we found a military camp I'd never seen before and there was some decent stuff there.
Now running with SKS and Skorpion and have decent camouflaged clothes.
