Ubisoft recycled Far Cry 4’s map in Far Cry Primal?

It seems that recycling is part of Ubisoft's every title. We noticed that Far Cry Primal has a very similar map to the one we know from Far Cry 4, and here's why.

We can’t say that for certain, but there is some evidence pointing to the fact that Ubisoft might have recycled the map from Far Cry 4 and used it in Far Cry Primal. You could argue that it’s just a coincidence, but it’s hard to say what was the idea behind that decision – especially that the Himalayas and Central Europe are thousands kilometers apart.

The easiest way to spot similarities between two maps is to compare water reservoirs and rivers. Based on that, you can assume that the developers at Ubisoft took Kyrat from Far Cry 4, made it a little smaller and then modified it a bit, in hope that we would not notice what is going on.

In order to show you what we mean, we’ve prepared two pictures that present maps fromFar Cry 4 and Far Cry Primal. Water reservoirs and rivers have been marked with red lines. It’s easy to notice that the map from Primal has undergone small modifications – water reservoirs have been connected with streams and rivers, but others have been left untouched. Road nets are too similar as well. What’s more, areas that previously had bridges to cross the water, have now been replaced with water fords in some locations. It’s hard not to notice the general shape of the game world as well. Oh, and Takkar’s village is located in the exact same spot, where Far Cry 4 had one of the villages. That’s too much for a coincidence.

Far Cry Primal had its console debut on February 23, 2016 and it was released on PC on March 1, 2016. The game is generally considered to be a good installment in the series, but yesterday’s PC release had quite a substantial number of technical problems.

Total Biscuit's WTF basically summed it up as a wasted idea. Far Cry 4 lite. If it was priced like Blood Dragon I may have taken a punt.

Yea, that is what I keep reading. I guess this was supposed to be like Blood Dragon, but Ubi did a full release

Seems weird. Also, I need to finish blood dragon

Ubisoft recycling material? Well I never :o

Primal to Far Cry 4 is what Battlefield Hardline was to BF4 - an overpriced 'spin-off' of recycled material that fails to take the series further. This is really a £20 game tops.

Fair play they are trying something new but it feels like a cash-grab of a tiring series.

I have purchased Far Cry Primal, mainly because i love Far Cry but also because i had a £20 voucher.

The map and everything does seem very similar but i love what they've done! It a nice change of pace to not have any guns and i love some of their ideas, like Instead of grenades, you throw a bee hive.

The story is pretty thin but the amount you can upgrade your character seems way more than on previous games and you have to constantly craft arrows/ weapons which i really like! Over all i've played about 3 hours and i'm really enjoying it. I would suggest not paying £50 or how ever much it is but it's worth £30 if you're a Far Cry fan.

Yep, wait for Ark Survival Evolved if you wanna see this kind of thing done properly. I have it on Steam and recommend it.

It's excellent Rich, it looks gorgeous too on high settings. If you ever get it, let me know, I've not played with anyone else.

On high video settings it will make the machine work a lot. You'll be okay but may overheat on extended sessions

Sweet, i've hammered a fair few games on it so far and haven't had any issues.
