So apparently this guy did an interview with EuroGamer the other day where he was just a total ass. The interview created a PR nightmare for Bungie, and is being cited in Forbes and a few other places as things NOT TO DO unless you want to piss off your customers. This is all in response to the the Expansion pricing and "screwing over" of year one players.

(For the record, this is pretty much par for the course for MMO's, Pricing, and things that happen to players that start off Day one with a game)

Here is the article, it is pretty funny.

I get pissed at the fact it's $40 or £40 for us like all dlc it's a fucking download it should be at exchange rates.

It is pretty dumb but I am amazed by what people will she'll out money for and they know this.

"I refuse to pay for what I already have and you should too."

Deej: That's your right, and we respect your freedom to make decisions about what you find valuable.

The Collector's Edition is mostly sold out, so the people who found that stuff valuable jumped at the chance. You'll likely see it sold on ebay for much more than what we're asking. But that's not the point. Right?

The real conversation here is: What are we doing to honor you, the players who have been bound to Destiny in this first year of action and adventure? I'm glad you asked. I'm going to answer in the Bungie Weekly Update.

Please stay tuned.

You're right. It's not. So why bring it up at all?

Also, I loved this response on reddit

I love DeeJ, but what I'm hearing is "Sooo we know you're pissed, we know exactly what we've done, but our paycheck is basically in the mail already sooo...we'll throw something in for you to shut you up".

I'm avoiding getting involved with this as I'll just end up sounding like a broken record. Bungie has been fucking over since day one, it's hardly a secret. This is just the one that people notice more.

I can't help but wonder if this is an intentional marketing strategy however. Say they're gonna fuck us over, then change their tune so we see them in a higher light and forgive or don't notice other pisstakes.

Think of the Xbox One fiasco with their always on bollocks.

We need to remember who the parent company is in all of this. I'm not surprised one bit by what's happening if Activision is involved. Bungie didn't do shit like this when they were backed my Microsoft. Problem is they've made a deal with the devil. Well another devil.

I'm with Gary on this. What matters more to me is the fucking non-existance of an exchange rate from US to UK. TTK would be a great addition for around £28.

All I take from this is the guy is an absolute dick for not trying to mask the bullshit we already know that comes with DLC and their marketing strategy.

The Taken King might, probably won't, but might raise the level of content up to what I would have expected with the base game day 1 for $60.

You can't blame Bungie or Activision though, look in the mirror, that's the problem. If most people buy TTK, no matter how much the community cries foul, no matter how much bad press they get, Bungie/Activision will consider it a success and it will incentivize them to carry on with these practices.

In contrast, CD Project Red has blown me away from the initial content and quality of The Witcher to the free DLC down to the foldout map, soundtrack CD, lore pamphlet, and stickers included with the game. I will sing their praises from every mountain top and even though I'm generally content to let game prices drop before I purchase them, I may pay full price for their next title purely to reward this behavior. Bungie will not see another dime from me.

They may have made a deal with the devil when they signed with Activision, but it's not like Activision owned them. Whatever shitty terms they agreed to, it was their choice, it's on them.

Agreed

Also, check out my PPR, I posted a gif, that I wasn't really sure should be posted elsewhere, but that sums up another portion of the problem

He said he is sorry and they are offering the extra goodies for $20 extra. Might as well just spend the $60 for a whole new game!

Not sure its worth £20 tbh. Maybe a tenner perhaps.

He's made a public apology though for being a tit which i suppose helps a little.

It's the exchange rate with me as well. Are all the digital downloads priced in the same "can't do a conversion rate so we'll make it 1:1" way for all the major games? If so, the first one to break ranks would be lauded to the heavens and might make the others see sense

Also is It, say, $40 = £40 = 40 Euros = 40 Canadian $ = 40 NV Dong etc. ??? or is it just the Brits/ Euros being ripped off?

I think we've determined that Canada gets ripped off on all games just as much as any country other than the US.

Next gen games are 79.99 here.... Wtf?!

Plus tax it comes to $91.

Yea Canada and Australia get demolished in this

Also, I wonder how hard this guy got chewed out. At the least I hope he learned to not let his ego run his mouth.

Also, how exactly are micro-transactions an apology?

The problem for Destiny is that as an MMO, it sucks soggy goat balls. It doesn't have the depth or content to justify that business model.

I am finding that the content is there, you just have to dig outside the game. That makes zero sense to me; who thought that that was a good idea?
