I don't think even the most perfect potential COD could generate my interest back in the franchise. A good game for me would surround:

    - Black Ops inspired maps with differing sizes and terrain
    - Pick 10 from Black Ops 2
    - Scorestreaks that emphasize objective play as opposed to kills
    - A wealth or scorestreaks either in strike packages or from a wall where you can choose between support and assault
    - Proper scenery destruction and not lampposts falling over and doors blowing off hinges
    - Score limit modes as opposed to time-limit based games
    - Search and Destroy with alternating rounds as Euan mentioned
    - Better presentation in terms of visuals, the HUD and the menu
    - A decent and memorable campaign and not one-dimensional characters in a piss-poor story that lasts 4 hours
    - A detailed theater mode with direct upload to YouTube available
    - A combat record to the tune of Black Ops 2 and not some shitty barracks bollocks
    - Gimme fucking Headquarters again you wankstains
    - No French people

My FrankenCOD... Put a fair bit if thought into this...
    Maps:
    . Stormfront - Ghosts
    . Cargo - BO2
    . Standoff - BO2
    . Hydro - BO2
    . Underground - MW3
    . Array - BO
    . Summit - BO
    . WMD - BO
    . firing range - BO
    . Wasteland - MW2
    . Underpass - MW2
    . Sub Base - MW2
    . Estate - MW2
    . Derail - MW2
. Vegas Junkyard - Rainbow Six Vegas 2 (not COD but I just had to have it!)
Wow that was hard, when I got to the MW2 maps I just wanted to pick them all!
Guns: just some memorable guns I would love to see again...
FAMAS - MW2 my favourite gun in any shooter ever!
    RPD - MW2
    F2000 - MW2
    AUG - BO
    FN FAL - BO
    FAD - MW3
    MSMC - BO2
    PPM901 - MW3
    Aks74u - BO
    Intervention - MW2
    Desert Eagle - MW3
    M93 Raffica - MW2
    G11 - BO
    Barrett .50 - MW2
    G36c - MW3
    Commando - BO
    Chicom CQB - BO2
    .BO2 Create a Class
.Perks from every cod, they all have a purpose for something and someone, so why not?
    .Ghosts squad points unlock system
    .BO2 style scorestreaks
.Mw3 style specialist, with set score points not kills
    .Assault and support streaks
UAV or equivalent to be a higher points total than previous titles, to try and ease the UAV spam and the need for ghost/assassin type perks...
    .Ghosts excellent connection
. Even more character customisation, more like RSV2, pointless for gameplay but it's just nice to create a character and unlock a lot of things...
I love the idea of nukes but I don't think I can include it because I think it's a big incentive to camp hard...

I never thought I'd be so happy to hear the words 'small' and 'medium' come up again.

Still not entirely blown away and this may not be enough to persuade me to hop back onto Ghosts but the DLC looks pretty reasonable.

I think Jonny has nailed this, I look forward to the next CoD for a few months, knowing it will keep me occupied for months, and then getting a disappointing release like this one is a big let down.
Since moving to BF4 I've noticed the ambition in that franchise, as opposed to the lack of ambition in CoD. I never played MW1 but I imagine it was ground breaking, and MW2 went further. Since then it's been variations in the same theme. I loved BO2 cos I liked the challenges, thought pick 10 was a great create a class system, liked most of the maps, and liked the variety of game modes. They did a great job of getting the variables right, but its in no way ground breaking. The variables dont work for me in Ghosts.
And then comparing it to BF4 where they are stretching the boundaries. I'll give you an example, ghosts has clan wars on the apps, actually a decent idea and pretty well executed. In BF4 there's an app that lets you join a PS4 battle, but on your iPad and be the commander, directly influencing events. Ok it's a minor part of the experience, like clan wars, but it's so much more ambitious.

I wish it was a simple as saying "oh this game pisses me off I'll take I'll get rid of it"...
Since mw2 was released I was hooked on COD, it fast became my main hobby and a big part in my life, and I so want to enjoy it so much that I'm willing to try and try and try again...
Every time I go on I think maybee it will be better?
It may be strange to some of you that I would put myself through so much stress over a videogame, but it's that desire to get back to the glory days I once enjoyed.
That is why I can't just get rid of the game...

Firstly this is the complaint/rant thread so if you don't want to see complaints don't read it...
Pros do complain about things, half the gun nerfs and buffs in BO2 were because treyarch worked so closely with competitive gamers...
It may be pointless ranting and complaining to each other on here, but it makes people feel better, it may not achieve anything at the end of the day but it's good to have a moan...
Also personaly I'm British therefor it's common knowlage we like to moan about just about anything...

So after a huge pain in the ass of a download on Friday, and a busy Saturday, I got about 6 hours to play on Sunday. It's not as much as I'd have liked but I feel like I still got a pretty good idea of what the game was like. I spent the vast majority of the time as a Khajiit Nightblade.

So after a short intro you are brought into character creation. I loved it. If you're an Altoholic like me (or at least like the character creation process), then you'll be pleased. The races all looked pretty good and there were a huge number of customization options, from the angle of your forehead to the size of your hands. I spent a decent time going through all the options and decided it's among the best character creations I've seen in an MMO (And I've played my fair share). I also took this opportunity to look at the higher level gear and was once again pleased. Each race had high-end gear that reflected their personality whilst being consistent with Elder Scrolls Lore. It should be noted that some of the low level gear (particularly the medium armour) didn't look great, though I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem for long.

After character creation you are brought into this weird soul prison. You meet 'The Prophet' who gives you information about why you are there and what you must do. I won't go into details about the story so far but as Sennex said he basically tells you that you're special. The prison is a tutorial level and it was pretty boring. It was dark so didn't show off the graphics and the lack of skills at this point meant combat was pretty boring (I'll go into that later). It takes about 10 minutes to go through the tutorial depending on how much you look for loot, so this could be a bit annoying when starting several new characters.

When I finished the tutorial I found myself in a small camp (the starting area for the Khajiit, Bosmer and Altmer races). This was the first time I got to see how beautiful the game really was. I was highly impressed with the looks of the game as a whole and can tell I'll spend a lot of time just exploring the world of Tamriel. Before I would have said that Guild Wars 2 was the best looking MMO I've played, but The Elder Scrolls Online is definitely a new contender. I was approached by a khajiit who set me off on my first chain of quests.

The quests in the starting are were also impressive, there was no "Go to Quest Giver, Kill 8 Wild Boars and Wolves for meat, return to Quest Giver, recieve 200 gold". I had an instance where I was running up from the shore when a woman ran to me for help. I had to run through some ruins and free her master from an evil spirit. It seems a lot more inspired in that aspect.

Whilst I've made the game sound pretty good so far, I do have one main concern. The combat. It neither had the complexity of other MMO's such as WoW or the fluidity of single player games like Skyrim. I think I had 5 abilities as well as a regular and heavy attack. There was also a limited amount of abilities to unlock, around 6 for the three skill trees as well as a few for armour, weapons and races.I was able to link up some abilities well however. I could use the 2 second stealth, followed up by a heavy damaging backstab with bleed. Then crippling the enemy as they try to escape. The combat was sometimes laggy with an enemy taking a few seconds to fall after I killed it, thus causing confusion as to what exactly was happening. I never tried out PvP which I regret, since I'd like to have seen how multiple classes could link up together.

Overall I think the game is more suited for a casual MMO player, with it's strong points being on looks and story rather than the gameplay itself. Whilst I'll be picking it up, with the looks, story and exploration greatly interesting me, the boring combat may mean I'll put it down sooner than expected.

I didn't mind reskinned maps but at the expense of new ones disappoints me. Black Ops 2 saw Nuketown, Firing Range and Summit reintroduced and the latter two at a price. I think Treyarch's maps in that game weren't of the standard of the likes of WaW or the original Black Ops but bringing back the classics after a massive online campaign from a minority of the community gave them a get out of jail free card.

I don't really want to see any 'classics' now. It would just be further embarrassing. If they want to delve into the past for nostalgia; just give us the map for free as a gesture to the community instead of replacing potential new map slot and putting a hefty price on the package. I have no interest in Extinction either so that part of the content is worthless for me.

If they reskin any MW maps for Ghosts; it would be ridiculous.

Agree Spectre. If you lay everything out without being blinded by their official promotional videos or YouTube puppets like Ali-A; you can see that everything 'new' is just a twist on the existing formula or has been renamed to seem 'fresh'. Some players may think the 'create a soldier' is an amazing addition but it's actually just the standard CAC with the option to add a few helmets or clothes. This does not constitute to revolutionary in my book. The destructible environments is incredibly embarrassing compared to the scale of destruction in BF4. I am not one of those wowed when a lamppost falls over or a door gets blown off its hinges. Blitz is just CTF without the flags and is badly implemented with unbalanced maps and favorable spawns. There is also no incentive for the objective so players tend to camp out the defence portal to sacrifice a win for the sake of their K/D. In terms of visuals; this game is not of the standard expected. The campaign which was raved about for months is also just a 4 hour scripted bore which is also extremely pathetic for such a large franchise in this day and age.

It's the stuff that has been eliminated that I find really disappointing for this game. Omitting the likes of Hardpoint was a surprise but not as much as HQ which was a very popular gametype in the series. As mentioned; the removal of scorestreaks is gameplay suicide and I will never understand why they have done this. The lack of a detailed combat record and theater mode is yet another example of a depleted product.

I wish that someone heavily tied to the franchise on YouTube regarding early-access would just be honest instead of painting the game as a groundbreaking next gen title. I know the likes of Ali-A are tools for free advertising for Activision but surely someone has to be man enough to get the publishers hand out of their arse and just deliver a honest and damning preview of the title instead of glorifying false promises and expectations.

I don't know whether the franchise has clouded people's hopes and acceptance of games these days but Ghosts has fallen extremely short for a videogame in today's market and for the franchise as a whole. I for one will not be blinded by gimmicks but it's a shame people on YouTube and IW dressed the game as something that it wasn't.

I think the way the product is produced has made the community play less effectively. They have eliminated scorestreaks which has had a detrimental effect on the way some players in certain modes play. KC was brilliant in Black Ops 2 with tags counting towards the killstreak ladder. Now they have removed this; it's brought the killwhores out of the woodwork and combine this with some of the poor and oversized maps; the games don't flow as tidily or enjoyably in my opinion. Treyarch introduced gameplay incentives - rewards for playing the objective which expanded on the traditional gunplay elements which was a very welcome addition and helped boost weaker plays also. I am still wracking my brain as to why Infinity Ward didn't take this essential concept forward.

I enjoyed Ghosts at first but for me; they have omitted too many features and the game hasn't moved on in what was supposed to be a next gen outing. On PC; this game looks as poor as MW2 and worse than BFBC2 from 2009 and it just doesn't have the nice design touches or innovation Treyarch has brought previously.  The removal of gameplay elements has brought this game back into the 'noob' generation which I thought we left behind years ago.
