Little story of the power of the Interwebz
NCA-Paendrag and 2 others reacted to OTC Mike for a topic
So, I had a pretty awesome experience with the good ol' interweb this weekend, in spite of a pretty terrible reason, that I thought I might share. Now, first thing I need to say that I really don't use internet for anything other than gaming, this forum and browsing YouTube and Facebook. I know some of you are members of other forums (gaming or otherwise) and have heard of some great experiences, but never really cared to use the internet in any other way than I currently due. So with that said, here goes. On Saturday morning my wife's grandfather passed away. He was 91, had dementia and was in poor health due to being 91 and having dementia, so his passing was no real surprise, and is looked upon as a good thing in our family, as the last few months have been hard on him. He's also a WWII Marine Vet. And as some of you know I'm also a Marine Vet, so while shoveling my driveway Saturday afternoon I thought I would pay my respects the only way I knew I could, and that was by wearing my Dress Blue uniform to his funeral. The only problem is that I don't own one anymore. So, I needed some and I needed some fast. Getting a full set of dress blues sized correctly with all medals and ribbons mounted in 3 days is about as easy as your wife getting ready to go out to dinner in 3 minutes. I did some google searching for some local military surplus stores, but nobody had what I needed. Feeling pretty bad, I tried one more search...And found a full set, brand new, with all the works (blues have tons of buttons, belt and accessories) on eBay. But their shipping policy wouldn't get it here on time. So I messaged the poster... And he's where the story gets good. He messaged me right back with his phone number and I gave him a call. I explained the situation to him. He told me he would take it off ebay and ship it overnight from California that night and I could just pay him through paypal. I was kinda nervous about that, but he had a positive rating of 99.5% with over 400 items sold, and is a former Marine himself, so I took my chances and went for it. We exchanged a few texts and I checked the fedex tracking number this morning and the package will show up this afternoon. Well, I also need my ribbons and medals mounted, which is still no easy task in a short timeframe. Well, as it turns out, the guy who sold me the dress blues, knows another former Marine in Arizona who does just that. He passed along this other guys contact info, and a couple of calls later I’ve got a full set of medals and ribbons on the way. So in short, I was able to get something done that seemed impossible. A full set of dress blues while being nowhere remotely close to anyplace that sells it, from 2 guys who I never met, but who were both former Marines who did everything they possibly could to help out a fellow devil dog. All so I could wear a uniform for 3 hours.3 points -

What If Money Was No Object?
crippled_viper reacted to Docwagon for a topic
Drifter pretty well covered it. There's a big difference between 'without any money' and 'with some money'. That's why I said you have to find the floor, the bare minimum amount of income you need to live how you want to live, and then explore the options that will meet that need. I would also add, think of your future. Not many folks want to work until they die. If you can live on $20k but make $35k, that's a lot of money you can put back to retire. I plan to retire at 52, thanks both to a pension and to living below my income level.1 point -

What If Money Was No Object?
Plumbers Crack reacted to Drifter for a topic
You just answered your own question I never said to "not work", that's not the point of the video. The point of the video as well as what I was saying above, is simply to not get stuck in a position where you are working half your waking life at a job in which you hate. Most polls show that up to 75% of Americans hate their jobs, but people are taught that they have to go into a field that pays the most money they can get no matter if they like doing it or not, which in reality when you step back and look at the grand scheme of life, that's a sad way to spend the brief amount of time you/we have on this planet. And that is what I was saying about myself. I use to work 50hrs a week in a hot shop as the foreman of a welding/fabrication shop that did a lot of work for the auto & construction industry. I made good money, but I worked long hours, I did heavy lifting and very hard manual labor, in the summer the shop was 100+ degrees yet I still had to wear welding leathers in that heat, I had to put up with crap everyday from the snot nosed owner of the company because his daddy handed him the reigns to the company when he turned 21 yrs old, I got up super early to be there so had to go to bed early so I could get up early the next day to start the cycle all over again. Basically by the time I got off work, got home showered there were maybe 4 hours per day between sitting down to do something and having to go to bed. My life was reduced to a mere 4 hrs per day. That's just not right. Compare that to what I have been doing now for the past 8 going on 9 yrs now. My main source of income now is my custom fly rod business. My true passion in life is fly fishing/outdoors, so I learned the craft of rod building, since I loved doing it and it was fly fishing related (not to sound egotistical) but I became very good at it. Now my days are spent building rods while watching movies, done at my own pace, if I want to take a week or time away from it to go fishing or on trips then I can do so. Now I make my money from doing that. I don't make anywhere near what I did as a welder, but I have found that I am much MUCH happier of a person doing this even with less money because I am doing something I enjoy and not being miserable everyday because I am not putting something like money which is a man created idol up on a pedestal. So no one is saying not to work, it takes money to do most things in life. The point is to simply not get sucked into the black hole of trading a huge portion of your life/happiness for money. Find out what you really enjoy doing, then try to find a way to do something in that field and not worry too much if it doesn't pay quite as much because in my opinion trading happiness for money is something most people, even if they don't think so now while they are still young, but at the end of their life when they look back they will regret that they traded happiness for money.1 point -

That's how I roll. Admittedly it is tempting to grab a salad towards the end of a match with semi-skimmed milk but finishing a match with a full-fat milkshake and a quarter pounder on the side really adds to the Battlefield experience I find. I think the general pace of the gameplay also burns off enough calories without the need to make a last-ditch diet attempt.1 point -

So I just registered to two other forums for GM Fullsize trucks and Desert trucks. I do all the registering and introduction. And on one of the forums I still have yet to be accepted (so I can't make posts, view profiles, update my profile, etc...) I have emailed the admins and nothing. The other site still has not acknowledge me on the introduction, but I was able to reply in a thread that was already made about product reviews. So I mention a product that I have used and what I thought. Then a moderator deletes my post and bans me. He then unbanned me and said sorry because he thought I was a spammer. Mind you have already done an introduction and registered. What I'm getting at will all of this, I'm so glad that this forum is not like that. Very friendly and will acknowledge new people as they join.1 point -

DLC on PS3/PS4
J4MES OX4D reacted to Plumbers Crack for a topic
Thanks James it did in a way! I think I'll get the Ghosts season pass on PS3 so I can carry it over to the PS4 then, if I can swing it with the Treasurer, get the BF4 pass, install it on the PS4. If it doesn't work backwards on tthe PS3 then no biggie as I don't play BF4 on that console It seems to be PS3 = Ghosts and PS4 = BF4 mainly due to who is playing what. Sean flying a helicopter is a laugh a minute!1 point -

DLC on PS3/PS4

HOW YOUR CALL OF DUTY GHOSTS DLC UPGRADE WORKS (OR DOESN'T) Posted by OneofSwords in One of Swords on Jan 29, 2014 2:56:00 PM Call of Duty has posted a new blog entry that covers not only some of the highlights of the latest patch notes, but also digs into some detail regarding how DLC and Season Pass content works this year. This information was already announced last year, but now that we're at the point of purchase for a lot of people, it's important to restate, and I'm glad they did. Quoting directly: If you are a Call of Duty: Ghosts DLC Season Pass holder, then your Onslaught DLC Pack will carry over from Xbox 360 to Xbox One. However, if you are not a Call of Duty Ghosts DLC Season Pass holder and purchase the Onslaught DLC Pack individually, it will not carry over from Xbox 360 to Xbox One. Currently, Microsoft only supports DLC transfer between Xbox 360 and Xbox One if you are a Season Pass holder. The Call of Duty: Ghosts Onslaught DLC Pack will carry over from PlayStation®3 to PlayStation®4 whether you purchase it individually or get it as part of the Call of Duty: Ghosts DLC Season Pass. So, just to be super clear, because I do not want people regretting their choices: Season Pass on Xbox 360 WILL carry forward to Xbox One, if you get it on your Xbox 360 before the end of May. Season Pass on PS3 WILL carry forward to PS4, if you get it on your PS3 before the end of May. Season Pass on Xbox One WILL NOT carry back to Xbox 360. The offer is only valid for people moving from the previous system to the latest system. Season Pass on PS4 MIGHT? carry back to PS3. UPDATE: I am being told by fans that Sony offering one Season Pass on both PS3 and PS4. I have no reason to doubt them, but I was not expecting this offer. Nice deal -- we'll find out for sure when the content actually goes live. Individually purchased DLC packs WILL NOT transfer between systems. If you buy Onslaught on Xbox 360 "a la carte," you do not also own it on Xbox One, or vice versa. (Again, we'll see what happens at the Sony DLC release to see if their rules are different.) Season Pass WILL NOT upgrade across/between platforms by different manufacturers (i.e. Xbox 360 to PS4). I want your Ghosts DLC experience to be happy and regret-free, so that's why I added bold type and festive colors. Now that you have the knowledge, please spread it around and prevent your friends from making expensive mistakes!1 point -
