Looks like Microsoft are entering the handheld market with a ROG Ally-branded device in partnership with ASUS.

Xbox is becoming more like PC and Windows is becoming more like Xbox... is Microsoft looking to muscle SteamOS out of the way?

Could be another interesting option especially as Valve's Steam Deck is restricted at retail-level but price will be a huge factor here.

The Xbox handhelds are coming Holiday 2025 and they're impressive, but many questions still remain.

Oh man, now THATS how they break this market. That or a similar styled Gameboy.

Microsoft are falling off a cliff in the gaming market. How can this be in any way a good idea? At $1000?

If you looked at the market, you could break it by going backwards and making a unique PSP styled one that doesn't need to be anywhere near that powerful and create exclusive games for it. It looks massive and that means it doesn't feel super comfortable to play rigorous games with those controls. This is where the Switch hands down kills everything. If we think back to the King of handhelds back in the day, the ones that succeed are more fitting in your hand that will lend itself to the fun of the games, not just giving more power for better graphics. Its literally just a gaming PC and I actually think the next 5-10 years is showing more kids want to have a PC at their desk, not this.

EDIT - I was typing as I was listening to it. Its £500/£800 for the handheld. I still think its too much though for a glorified mobile PC.

So I have been looking at these, I think it is difficult to say if the price is wrong or right as similar to the PC market there is such a wide range of price points based on the hardware and specs.

The base model puts it similar to the OLED steamdeck and looking at reviews performance wise I don't believe they are too far apart. Where you lose out with the screen though the screen is still meant to be decent but you then get access to all gaming librarys a bit easier and game pass which is a lot trickier with the steam deck. The more expensive model comes in a little more affordable than the premium options such as the Legion Go 2 and the onexplayer and such.

It has reviewed quite well and the Xbox ally X is an improvement on the Rog ally X that it was built upon. However the limiting factor seems to be the OS still, it's windows and it is just not optimised well enough. I am planning to upgrade my steamdeck (my brother is having it) and have my sights on the Lenovo Legion Go S. It is comparable to the base Xbox Ally specwise but performs much much better and by all accounts it is just down to the Steam OS and it's optimisation of games and such.
