With Final Shape being delayed, Bungie promised some bits to keep players engaged. I think they've done a decent job looking at what seems available:

Here's the trailer:

Some thoughts

  • Finally added some form of a horde mode, called Onslaught. 50 levels. Different difficulties.
  • 12 weapons, removed because of gamebreaking elements, now back in the game. Updated and enhanced.
  • 2 exotic missions. Whisper and Zero Hour. Probably 2 of the best missions we've ever had.
  • Raid Gauntlet Boss new activity. I think if this works, this will hit fantastically hard.

There seems more but those were the key parts for me. Most people are saying PvP will be broken as hell, but I think we were already there anyway with that lol.

For free for the 2 months ahead of the Final Shape, it seems like a great update to me. Any thoughts?

Might find a reason to turn destiny on again just to take a look.🤷

State of Destiny 2

I wish they abandoned PvP altogether - it feels like a watered-down version of Halo with no balance or meat to the mode. Always felt like it was included as filler and that's the way it's always persisted yet it was never really needed as it still only represents a minor part of the game, yet still big enough to alienate new and even longstanding players. Bungie have spent way too much time half-assing so many aspects and then tweaking others and it's no wonder they could just settle down and comfortably make expansions when they couldn't even get the foundation right after a decade nearly.

I totally disagree, PvP back in destiny 1 was great what they should have done is not try to balance both PvP and PvE as one entity. The new abilities added in destiny 2 just broke PvP imo. I wouldn't personally compare it to halo either.

I think the PvP community would definitely argue on wether it was needed or not 🤷

DLCs are platform specific whereas the seasons and season pass you can buy anyway as that content is then available across all platforms. I think @crispymorgan would be able to confirm if you can save money that way i.e. buy Lightfall DLC for main console/platform you will play it on and then Season Pass can be bought via a Steam Key to save money as it activates across everything.

It's all new to me, I only noticed when I tried to equip strand ...🙄

So I was thinking of moving destiny to pc and see everything crosses over till I noticed lightfall is missing. So reading this I assume then I'd have to buy it for the pc now as well as owning it on ps5, if that's the case hell no.

Chad has made some great points, this latest expansion came out and because it's just the same format I know I can miss weeks then just catch up. Also with playing since d1 beta I can see how things have gone down hill especially the PvP side. Like cod which gets it's fair share of time PvP is quick you can drop in and out and not necessarily dedicate big time like you might in a raid. Now raids , I used to really enjoy but I feel the game raids, more complex than fun, dungeons and the awful grind has been implemented due to YouTube and is now built for @Baabcatof old 😁. I didn't even realise the new raid was out, watched one video and just like the last raid thought nah.

My other problem now speaking personally is I only play with you guys on a weekend now cod is great to do that at the moment destiny just isn't due to needing to learn mechanics etc. Builds however are easier than ever and strand is quite fun.

Destiny 2 ViDoc - Lightfall

First ViDoc since they started these I wasn't blown away by which I suppose is understandable as there isn't much new things in it we already know about.

I've been saying for a while that the new Guardian Ranks is a key bit i'm interested in as it needs to help the new player experience, otherwise this DLC might only last 3-4 weeks for a large population of the D2 crowd. I personally haven't played in a few months and i'm happy i'm on that break. I think based on previous experiences, the DLC will be worth the money from a campaign (as its in the same format as Witch Queen's) and raid perspective for me and the break is good to get me excited for it - I just hope that it is in a good state for new and returning players because I have to admit when I dipped back in before Christmas even I was abit overwhelmed with how I needed to understand where everything was in the game.

Tbh I'm not remotely hyped to the point I think the game needs a massive rethink, the season quests just have you doing the same mission over and over and the last one it was easier to apparently wait till the end and run it once. I have played regularly but mostly PvP. Will see how this new strand thing goes do the campaign and then it's summer 😂 so hopefully ps5 takes a back seat.

Not only can I not agree with sbmm in control, but now bungie double down on stupidity with quitter penalties in control 🤡

True vanguard also had a way longer video saying basically the same.

Couldn't agree more with this. Its like they've had a second go at making it better and they really nailed it with this one. It is so much fun to run through. Laughing at people screwing up the jumping puzzle is still there too. The other raid encounters also feel pretty decent to run. You do have to work hard to get Warpriest done but I remember we used to get stuck at that part before and it co-ordination of a 6 player team is needed, which is the whole point of a raid.

The armour for the Titan still looks badass. I was lucky to get all armour apart from the Class Item dishcloth.

Hey class armour you say you can have one of mine I've got 2 🙄

Warpriest was a ballache but did feel a sense of achievement getting that done the other week.

Arc 3.0

Arc is the one I always used to love using with Titan's, especially for PvP. It'll be intersting to see how it feels different. Its good signs when they say...

I think this is why people always loved Titans and Arc ones at that. It just has to do enough to replace the OHK shoulder charge that took away alot of our fun (well, @Diddums and mine anyway) way back when it got nerfed.

The challenge with all of the 3.0 new builds for Subclasses is more about how to easily understand how they work. There are some ridiculous builds out there but most people know how to work it out....including me. 🤣

Agree about shoulder charge, hate they did that.

Just need to get rid of classy restoration due to how easy it is for hunters. In fact hunters in PvP is playing on easy mode😂 if they ever really need hunters there will be an outcry like a crèche full of hungry babies.

meanwhile i think that the hunter solar rework feels kinda underwhelming, especially the fragments, i can't find any good synergy/combo while with void you have good choices

This guy does a lot of builds buildsorn

Or you could switch and play a decent character 😁

Yeah totally agree with the Crucible element. It was the one area that whilst we waited for more content or wanted to just chill on the game, it would always be in the Crucible. I don't have the same pull either. However, I'm lucky as I love Gambit which I think weirdly now has more legs than Crucible does. I really want to get into the Iron Banner seal but I think they missed a trick by making Rift and Control as two options rather than force you to play Rift. We have this week (Week 2) and apparently Week 8 to only play Iron Banner through the 12 week season. Part of me feels like we'll get a communication that Iron Banner will come back in Week 11 or something because it needs that extra week of updates to make it worthwhile imo.

He's here bungie the one person that loves gambit, I'd be more than happy if they removed the random win bounty farm "gamemode" from the game and put resources into something more productive, possibly a new lighter shade of white tin of paint for the cupboards a bungie HQ got example.

Oh and this will be the first season I ditch IB as fuck rift

the game has grind for the sake of grinding and it's all repetitive,

This is one of its biggest fails for me, the grind for some basic stuff is incredibly dumb and with weapon crafting it's been turned upto the max. You grind for red border weapons with an insane low drop rate then you need fucking 5. One catalyst requires 50 min completions of mid tier difficulty stuff 😂

@Diddumsalso hit the nail on the head regarding crucible, I used to love spending hours just chilling in crucible now it's bounties and done simply because I've had enough by then of all the cheesy bulllshit, every update seems to make it worse too.

Weapon Crafting
Posted

So far I'm not really into it, I think the crafting patterns drop rate on some weapons is a disgrace. I've also got world drops of weapons I'd probably craft that way so what's the point? Maybe moving forward there should be some exclusive perks if they aren't game breaking only available through crafting, I know they'd be hard to balance.

Datto did a good video on the economy and thought it ridiculous that people would fill vault space with red border weapons as if you play the game enough then it wouldn't take long to grind materials. In summary it's an interesting addition that if managed well will be a good addition but if not could easily be ignored.

Early First Impressions of Witch Queen
Posted

Well I just finished the campaign, other than the 2 missions I did with @GazzaGarratt I've done it in classic/ normal or whatevs it's called, no way I'd have done it on legendary and tbh im happy with how my light level is for the first few days after release. The campaign as said before long with long ass missions but they were a nice mix of difficulty and occasional wtf is going on but I'm chuffed I got through without YouTube. Using void as a titan is a nice change too.

As for the other stuff it's nice to log on and have a lot to choose from.

One other thing I wish theyd done is balanced crucible a little but beggers can't be choosers.

Pretty impressed so far.

Early First Impressions of Witch Queen

Due to work I will be jumping in tomorrow as I'm off till Tuesday, I've heard nothing but good things about the campaign even datto said it's best one by far. Without being able to gaurantee a fireteam at times I will start on normal solo, it's not like it's a race. Looking forward to it tomorrow and learning about all the different stuff that's been implemented.

My issue with it was the crazy grind to get to rank 16, Bungie are fixated on this stupid 'streak' system for vendor xp. So having ground out about 60 completions I've had my fill - I know I didnt have to do that, but given the rank will likely reset in 6 weeks time, the only way to hit 16 is to grind like hell. Cant even argue its just cosmetics - the catalyst to foerunner is tied to rank 16 as well.

As a game mode i actually quite enjoyed it, and it has a few decent weapons tied to it for roll-chasing. So i think its a good addition, just the streak system is a very bad idea - the beauty of Destiny is its variety, you would think Bungie themselves understand that. They need to look at stats for the players who've played the game mode exclusively to get to 16, then either burnt out and dropped off, or never touched the game mode again !

This was exactly the point I was getting at, it's not a bad mode but when youve done over a hundred runs it is dull and repetitive. Unless I see a use for getting catalyst kills I'm done with that mode. As Bob says I'd have cut back way before if I hadn't fixated on the rank 16 requirements.
