1 heavy ammo pack = 950 glimmer 1 strange coin = 5 ammo packs 1 weekly on hard = 9 strange coins = 45 ammo packs, especially when Xur has buggar all else to buy!

Personally, I don't think it's a good idea because a number of the guys who aren't too keen on the war aspect but like playing the game, being in a clan, etc get put into a war and won't take part or will only attack once. At least using the war village you know you'll get full participation from the team. I'll organise a head count

Did the last part of a nightfall (thanks Mazz) and got me a Jelly!! All three of the team got exotics, the other two landed helmets which they needed. Need me a Vex and Hawkmoon now !
