  1. Savory isn't spicy, necessarily. Anything you could make in a risotto, you can make in oats. Shrimp, for example. Here's a nice sweet one based on carrot cake: 0.50 Cup Uncooked (40 Grams), Uncooked Oats 0.50 cup, Milk, nonfat 3 oz., Vanilla Yogurt (no sugar) 1 tbsp(s), Splenda/stevia 3 large, Carrots, baby, raw (shredded) 5.00 raisins, Raisins, seedless Vanilla to taste Cinnamon to taste 250 calories 14g protein 5g fiber Basically you just mix everything, leave it in the fridge overnight, and it's good to go in the morning. You can heat it if you like, but it's better cold IMO.
  2. If you're going to take your phone with you, you don't really need the music aspect, IMO. I guess if you don't want to have your phone with you then it makes more sense. I always have my phone with me, though, and I let my music play through the phone speakers since I don't want headphones blocking out the world around me.
  3. I don't know if you ever decided to jump on this or not, but another reason the Garmin helps motivate me is watching improvements. Run times decreasing, VO2 max increasing, etc. I've set two new personal bests this month. Today: 28:30 5k today in a light snow. Previous best was 28:56 last July. Heart rate data shows 154 bpm average today, vs 173 bpm last July, so a touch faster but at a much lower effort level. Similarly, on the 19th I set a new personal best for 10k at 59:27. That's 5:06 minutes faster then I was at the end of 2019.
  4. I eat a lot of oats. Oatmeal with an apple or banana, oats with pumpkin baked into sort of a cookie, savory oatmeal dishes (youtube it). Also, beans. High protein/high fiber. Easy to make in a slow cooker, or I like butterbeans enough that I can eat them straight from the can with some black pepper and hot sauce.
  5. It probably would be easier then using my pinkie to reach under for L CTRL and trying not to hit L Shift. Part of it is just the mechanics. One button does too many things. I want to drain someone and I throw ice. I want to run but I roll or climb. That sort of thing.
  6. Necro-bump, but if anyone wants to play this game today they ditched the microtransactions. Not exactly news, since it booted them in 2018. It was all new to me, though, as I picked the game up on Winter Sale at Steam. I got my $12 out of the game, but found some aspects rather annoying. The controls are absolute shit on PC being a big one.
  7. My son is old enough now that Christmas isn't a big deal. We got him a few little things, but his big present this year is money toward a car since he turns 16 next Summer. My wife and I agreed no presents. We're not traveling or doing anything special other then eating a bunch of carbs and sugar. 😄 But I'm off, so I'm home and that's nice.
  8. Merry Christmas to all. I'm off this year, so that's nice.
  9. I finished up Atlantis last night. It was a pretty big expansion, probably added 30 hours to my play time. One thing I don't like about the game is the enemy scaling. It actually makes the game harder as you level up past a certain point as there's no equipment that keeps up with the leveling of your character and NPCs. You get new abilities, combat can become ridiculously easy with some of the new skills, but stealth becomes progressively harder as you can't assassinate as many NPCs and the "knock out" doesn't scale up as well as fatal assassinations. I won't say why for spoiler reasons, but I tried to be very low death rate in my infiltrations in Atlantis so I wanted to use knock out more. It was challenging, which was fine. You could just cheese most infiltrations with a specific armor set that lets you use your Shadow of Nyx ability for free and basically stay invisible but I didn't want to do that. All in all, I liked the game. Don't look too deep into the morality and hypocrisy of some of the decisions you're forced into and the story is pretty good. The characters are interesting. I'd say it's sort of a combination of the old AC games and Witcher 3. If you liked both of those, you'll probably like this one.
  10. I'm doing the "Atlantis" expansion now and it's definitely not what I expected it to be. A journey through the mythical Greek underworld. There seems to be a lot of content and you can put the smack down on some new mythological entities. I put the smack down on Hermes...
  11. Did you do a 'new game +" and if so, is there any reason to other then just play through it with all the cool gear? I guess I'm going to do the Atlantis thing soon. I have finished up all the Cult at this point.
  12. I've finished the "main" questline at about 60 hours in and there's plenty more content to do, including tracking down the remaining cultists, discovering who the head of the cult is, etc. I want to continue to play because I want to see the story completed. It's a pretty well written game, character and story wise, minor quibbles aside.
  13. Old thread, but I just picked this up yesterday on the Steam sale. You can get the game with all DLC and a remastered copy of AC III for under $30. So far, I'm enjoying the story and the game play mechanics. I haven't played AC since III, and I never finished it.
  14. Turned out pretty good. Next time I'll use a little less smoke and be a bit more aggressive with the rub under the skin, but all in all I think it turned out really nicely. Good color, skin was pretty crisp, good flavor. The flats of the wings were phenomenal, best turkey wing I ever had. The thinner meat took the seasoning really well and the skin was perfect. It took about 5 hours at temps averaging 270-ish degrees. I did a water pan under it for the last 30 minutes or so because the bottom skin was going to get too dark if I didn't. My rub was garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, kosher sale, medium grind black pepper, and a touch of peri-peri. I butter basted, using Challenge salted butter, every hour once it hit 130 degrees internally.
  15. Tomorrow is Thanksgiving in the US, although I will be working so we'll delay the traditional meal until Friday. The turkey is brining now, this will be my first attempt to smoke a whole turkey. It's gonna be awesome or it's going to be shit. Here's hoping...
  16. Vivoactive 3 has move reminders and is a pretty solid smart watch and is right at that price point, at least in the US and then converted to your currency. That's the one I used for a long time, and I bought it used. I now have a Fenix for hiking (it's got topo maps and what not that's great for hiking but not something you'd need just as a fitness watch) and the updated Vivoactive 4. The 4 adds a few things, does weight lifting tracking better, but isn't fundamentally that different then the 3. The 4's biggest advantage is the button layout and the animated workouts/breathing exercises. As fara as the 3, Best Buy has it for the equivalent of just under, and you can get a refurb even cheaper, such as: Garmin Vivoactive 3 Black w/ Stainless | 010-01769-01 | AUTHORIZED GARMIN DEALER | eBay WWW.EBAY.COM Find great deals for Garmin Vivoactive 3 Black w/ Stainless | 010-01769-01 | AUTHORIZED GARMIN DEALER. 17. Yeah, my first impression was right. Not the game for me.
  18. I'm not even trying to take the land. Just win the war and put down the rebellion. Right now, despite his having no army, I'm losing the war.
  19. He rebelled. We are at war. I attacked his army and beat it, but now there's nothing left to attack as far as an army. I see a little town but can't get my army to go there, so I don't know how to attack anything else.
  20. See above, failed to quote.
  21. I watched some Youtube tutorials today since all I had was downtime waiting for a riot that never happened. I gave it a try again, and here's the issue I'm running up against. I picked Ireland in the iron age and am some 26 year old petty king. I tried to imprison a chief for plotting. I don't know what the plot was or how to find out, but figured plots are rarely good. I failed and he rebelled. I raised an army and crushed the ever living shit out of his army. Now I'm losing the war because he still has all his holdings. I can't figure out how to attack holdings or where they are or how to siege. I'm not even sure the proper term so youtubing has been of no help. My troops just stand in the county and do nothing and he has no troops left, so wtf do I do?
  22. You definitely have drink-outs here as well. It's usually with burgers and hot dogs on a grill. I'm not sure what you mean by flavouring the wood. Different wood already gives a different flavor. I'm using mostly apple wood, but experimenting with mesquite as well. Cherry and pecan are very popular as well. Lowe's has an 18" Basso Bullet smoker on sale right now for under $100. Research bullet smokers to see if it's right for you, but basically it's a smaller smoker that can also be used as a grill or steamer and is in a very small form footprint. I am using an offset firebox smoker, which is much larger: Amazon.com WWW.AMAZON.COM It's a decent one, but you'll want to do a little bit of modification to really improve it. I added a high temperature gasket around both doors and sealed up some smoke leaks with high temp silicon. That helps regulate the temperature better since you can control air flow more. It's a pretty easy smoker to keep in the 215-225 range. You'll also want a remote thermometer, as the one in the door only shows the temp in that area, which is much cooler then the bottom racks. The racks are removeable and you can install them at multiple heights. What you can't do with this is sear, since it's indirect heat only. Since you have a grill, you can reverse sear where you smoke to almost done then transfer to the grill just long enough to sear the outside. My next purchase will be a pellet grill, which is sort of an automated version. You set the temperature you want and an auger feeds wooden pellets in at the correct rate to maintain that temperature. That will allow me to do long slow cooks like brisket over night or on work days. Traeger is probably the most common, but I hear good things about the similarly priced Green Mountain Grills.
  23. Amazon.com WWW.AMAZON.COM "The Overstory" is a fantastic novel. It starts as more of a collection of short stories, which then merge into an overall story, (roots into a trunk, it's all tree themed) and it's just beautifully written. It even manages to paint hippies in a sympathetic light... 😉 Seriously, though, one of the best books I've read in awhile.
  24. I haven't even gotten through the tutorial and I'm pretty sure CK2 is not for me. It seems like way too many moving parts, a fairly complicated UI, and just more then I'm looking for in a game. I'm sure it's immersive and fun if you want to put the time in to learn all the bits and bobbles, but I don't think I do at this point. Honestly, I'm just looking for more casual games at the moment.
  25. It appears the base game is free now...but you can pay damn near $300 for all the content.
